Upon disembarking:

What's the longest you've had to wait to get a car upon arriving at the Radisson? Do they have enough staff to handle van load after van load of people?

Has anyone had the experience where Avis DIDN"T have the car you requested? And you had to settle for something else?

There's two of us driving out to the port, but we'll have four people and lots of luggage coming back. Should I get a big car both ways? Or get a small car going to the port. Then hope they have a big car for my return? I'm not sure what to do.

I'd appreciate any info. Thanks.

You have to make 2 seperate reservations with Avis. One from (I'm assuming MCO) to P3F (the rad) and then another reservation from P3F to MCO. You can book a SUV one way and a VAN the other. You will not have the same car. Obviously you could probably get away with a smaller car for the two of you, because you will also have the back seat. On the way back I would consider a full sized vehicle. There were 4 of us on our last cruise and well the trunks just ain't what they used to be. I also found the cars from P3F to MCO smaller. We always get a Buick Lasabre to the port but coming back it is an impala which is more mid-sized.

Tigerhoo,

I am guessing that you are flying from CA. Depending on your airline you will proabably be able to check your bags at the port on the way off of the boat.

We're not flying home after we disembark. We're going to hit the outlet malls (especially the Character Warehouse) and then spend a night at Swan/Dolphin before we fly home. But now I'm thinking about Animal Kingdom Lodge, hmmmm.

Thanks for the replies.

tigerhoo,

What is this character outlet of which you speak? We will have some time to kill the day before our cruise in March and a 10 month old that I love buying clothes for! :) I'm imagining a great big outlet with Disney Character clothes. Am I right? :)

The Character Warehouse is the Disney outlet store where discontinued items are carted off to at great prices. I have found so many things there at remarkable prices.

They have lots of clothes for adults and children. Plus all kinds of Disney stuff. Their inventory changes constantly so you will never know what you'll find. I usually check this place first before I hit the MarketPlace.

If you go before your cruise, be sure to leave in time to board the ship. Not to mention all the additional stuff you'll have to pack. That's why I go after the cruise.

But here's the address:

Character Warehouse
4949 International Drive
Orlando, Fl 32819
(407) 345-5285

From the airport, take 528 E, take the International Drive exit, (This route is more scenic, you drive by some interesting tourist attractions) drive north until you can't go any further. By then you'll be in the Belz Outlets. You'll eventually see a Reebok outlet store on the right. at that spot, make a left. It's a multiple building outlet and it's kind of confusing. There are two Character stores and they're in separate buildings.

It's worth the trip and if you're a bargain shopping Mom, it's a dangerous place. Bring an empty suitcase.

I had work for Avis for almost 5 years for trip money (part time) and was in charge of taking care of the outlining stores, (Kind of long here) each night they would go thur the next day res. and if they need 3 full size cars, and only had one at the store, and on checking in before they had a res. for it, they would clean it and have it ready, and then the main lot would send over 1 full size car (on the next size up) to cover the 3 rd res. Avis is real good about this here in Arizona, and as the Orlando airport is part of corp. they have the same rules.
So if you book a compact for the trip down, and drop it off, and book a full size or I will go with a "G" class which is the LaSabre, or even better go with the "V" class aka mini van, It's what I always got and it was only 2 of us, makes the bag laoding a snap.
They will have at least the car size you booked. Hope this helps

The Character Warehouse is a must on our trips, we go at least 2 times each trip, as they get in new loads every Thur. (as of 9/ 2000). They have 3 stores but the one at the Outlet mall at the end of I-Drive is the biggest and the best, they now have one across I-4 at the DTD off ramp of I-4 (Right DTD WDW / Left Outlet mall) and one other, but not sure were right now. The I-Drive one is the best.
