Thank you so much for answering the questions, Lexi!!!!!

Happy almost Friday! :cool1:

1. Describe the environment the teacher set up for the conference. Were there things you liked/disliked? Things that made you comfortable or uncomfortable?

2. Did the teacher share specific observations of your child with you? How were these observations shared? (verbal stories, work samples?)

3. Did the teacher ask for input from you prior to the conference?

4. How long was the conference? Was this a sufficient amount of time?

5. Was there anything you would change about the conference?

1. like everyone else said. Hate the itty bitty chairs and the kindergarden size table. they did have snacks for those parents that were waiting. that's always goog. ;)

2. yes, she showed work samples and verbalized to me that the redhead does not like to color. In fact, he told her coloring was stupid, and didn't see the point in it. So, when they are supposed to color, he just scribbles so he can be done. On the up side, I think Einstein hated to color, right? work with me here people.

3. nope

4. 15 minutes. she pretty much showed me his test scores, reading level, math level, talked about his social skills, coping skills and then asked if I had questions. I felt like if I needed more time she would have been happy to go over or to reschedule another time to talk longer.

5. I don't think so, except for the chairs. @@. I really like this teacher. She understands that sometimes little boys need to be little boys and that when youre 6/7 it's hard to just sit there and do things like, oh let's just say, color. She's never angry with the kids or expect them to NOT act like first graders, b/c that is what they are. I appreciate that in a teacher. Ethan's 1st grade teacher was not like that. She wanted perfection all the time. She had class favorites. She would mention her favorite kids during my conference time with her.:confused3

I like a teacher who sees each child as an individual. I think you'll be great at that.:thumbsup2

Lookie! I did my pickle and turkey!
This was just quoteworthy.

For those of us born before 1985 (ahem), you may recall the scene from Back to the Future in the parking lot at the high school the night of the "Enchantment under the Sea" dance when Michael J. Fox (who, seriously, played the role of Alex Keaton in just about EVERY movie he was in) spit-took whiskey all over the steering wheel of the car when he saw his prim-future-mother-then-a-wild-teenager light up a cigarette.

-- Rob

Good example. And I agree with your description of Micheal J. Fox... one of many actors who IMO, while I enjoy watching him, can't actually ACT, he is just himself over and over (Hugh Grant is another shining example). But I like the roles he picks and so I am a fan.

PJ- thanks for breakfast! I will answer your questions. They are not annoying. I was just too tired last night to do them justice. I love surveys. They appeal to ego... as if my opinion matters. Same reason I share all this useless drivel about my disney vacations and personal life with you all. Also the giggles- you people crack me up. Thanks.

MINNIE MOO!

I love your signature. The Pink Camo is the ultimate touch!!!!!

It Grasshopper is a girl (Anunzia Americus Praline Montessori?), I think I will get a pink camo diaper bag. Just cause it would make me laugh. And YES such a thing does exist.:rolleyes1

GOOG MORNING!

We're back from our long-anticipated trip to Cabo San Lucas. Here's my review in a nutshell: It was great. It's tough to return to cold weather after sun and 92+ degrees everyday. The lack of humidity made the heat quite comfortable unless we went too long without shade. The resort had beautiful landscaping, a lot like the Poly only with some cactus varieties mixed in. The architecture was old Mexican style and was really stunning. The two infinity pools looking out over the Sea of Cortez were amazing. I am spoiled now!

I hope the Mooovers are all doing well. :wave2:

We're back from our long-anticipated trip to Cabo San Lucas.
Kay! My friend from work just got back from Cabo yesterday! Did you meet anybody from KY? Did you see a beach wedding on Saturday? Glad you had a goog time. It sounds like heaven.

Morning all,

You people were chatty last night , but I love it. Didn't want the CMA but I do like country music. Even seen Alan Jackson and Reba in concert years ago. How could you not like a guy in a cowboy hat....:lmao:

Donald-- I bought my first VCR for that much too. Crazy isn't it. But it is like our big screen TV it went way down only a year after we bought it.

Kay-- lucky you. Sounds beautiful. You are probably getting our weather and it is freezing right now.

Lexi -- That is the reason I bought a vcr too. To watch my soap operas. I still record them now so I can fast forward through the boring stuff and commericals.

Twinkie-- less then two weeks now....

Hi everyone!

Haven't caught up on today's posts yet, but the inducing labor talk reminded me of a recipe that was so often requested on a local radio talk show that they posted it on their website. It involves Mac and Cheese, A1 steak sauce and the father. So here is the link:

http://philips.wtks.com/cc-common/f...hile_recipes.html&instance=1&article_id=77946

Twinkie and MommyP, if either of you try it, let us know if it worked.

I'm not sure I even want to look at the a recipe that involves the Father? :scared1:

Wendy - I saw that this morning too. My boys always used to ask for those because they watched too much TV. I always told them they were for girls. ;)

Kay - I'd LOVE to see some pictures from your trip!! Glad you had a good time!

I was coughing up a storm yesterday afternoon and evening. Nothing over night, but some serious coughing early this morning that left my ribs feeling battered and some pulled muscles in my lower belly.

Off to finish school and head to the grocery.

Moornin'
Lexi, Must have been someone else. I like Steve oko, but I'm a huge Dr. Dan fan. This pair can help us I think.what happenedl with the Cats last night?
Twinkie-On Michael J. and playing himself, my favorite examples are John Wayne and Bob Newhart. One of my least favorites, the Governator.
I work normal today, and tomorrow the boss is letting me work 8-4:30 so I can get to my ball game. It's homecoming weekend and I'm off! After the game, it's a party with the old gang. Then football on Saturday. And nothing else. First time I've had 2 days in a row in 3 weeks.

LOTS of hours doing research in libraries :headache:

And >$100 for a calculator (which was a lot of money to a college student in the 70s!) that did what a <$10 one does nowadays . . . but it kept me from having to become proficient in using a stinking slide rule or spending hours calculating everything on my own.

Cel, pretty ring. I had to Google it to see what the stone looks like.

1. The first time I went to college, I actually had to do fer real research in a library with tons of real paper and everything!
Ok twinkie. I want your opinion on this.
I was lab assistant to a biochemist. He was doing a study on proteins and something or other (this was in 94 - I can't remember that far back).
I was in charge of searching all the journals to make sure no one else had published similar research.
Is this normal?
Shouldn't he have done this BEFORE he started the study?
That always bugged me.
But anyway, it was a lot of fun.
But NOW they have infotrac. And you can search all databases at once. It's AMAZING and I love it.
And I don't think many college students even understand that it's there. I've been using it since 1998 I think. It makes research sooooo easy.
Personal and school and even some work research.
Except there haven't been any recent studies on pregnancy and anti depressants. Or at least none published.

2. What IS a slide rule? I've always wondered. And never understood. I just picture an abacus.

3. Back in my day, the calculators were over 100, but that was because we had to buy the graphing calculators. I bet Twinkie knows about them, her being a math camp vet and all. The TI 80? I think is what I had.
I wonder how my parents were able to afford it.

4. Thanks on the ring. I'd never heard of the stone until we saw it at wal-mart. I'm sure it's lab created, but it's pretty, so I don't care. Just like my lab created opal. it's brilliant!

Amen, sistah on the calculator!
They were forbidden in my accounting classes (all classes actually) because they were too expensive. However, we never did use slide rules either, it was all long hand math.
WHAT? I never thought of this.
WHY DID YOU DO IT?
Eek!
I like numbers, but I'd be lost without Excel and my calculator.

2. yes, she showed work samples and verbalized to me that the redhead does not like to color. In fact, he told her coloring was stupid, and didn't see the point in it. So, when they are supposed to color, he just scribbles so he can be done. On the up side, I think Einstein hated to color, right? work with me here people.
Einstein didn't like school at all, so you're good to go.
And besides, what the heck IS coloring except busy work?
If it's painting or there's a purpose, at least it's creative - but just coloring a preprinted sheet is time for the teacher to catch her breath.
The two infinity pools looking out over the Sea of Cortez were amazing. I am spoiled now!
ooooh! I'm jealous! I've never been in an infinity pool. I want to soooo bad. Have you seen the soak tubs that have the same effect, just not the view?
I want that soooo bad!

Now Marita.....YOu were in the 70s and you were cold.??????????? WOW ....that is when we jump in the pools here in Maine......that is swimming temps....We were 27 yesterday and last night again......I slipped on the top step going out cause of black ice.....good lordy I hate just absolutely hate winter......oh well.....6 more years.....six that is all..

This winter is going to be real rough on me. I am freezing already! Losing 100 pounds means I am not warm anymore.
6 years? Why 6 years?

I was coughing up a storm yesterday afternoon and evening. Nothing over night, but some serious coughing early this morning that left my ribs feeling battered and some pulled muscles in my lower belly.
Aww! Poor mommyp! I hope you feel better soon.

I  the bling in honor of twinkie grasshopper montessori.
Hehe.
It makes me giggle.

Hi Nab! Hi PJ (those pancakes looked good - especially the blueberries)!

Oh my goodness on the aquadots recall!!!
People (especially in the gay drug scene) use GHB recreationally too, not just as a date rape drug - I bet there's millions of gay guys out there trying to buy them up! :rotfl2:
I wonder how many you have to eat to affect a kid!!!!!!!!
Is it just one or two or a whole bunch?
Like my sister ate the cherries out of hi ho cherry-o when we were little - but I think she only ate a few.
And she drank bonne bell kiddy perfume one time.
Which explains a lot about my sister. heh.
The weirdest thing I ate was really just an experiment -
I love sweet, I love sour, I love milk.
I mixed vinegar, milk and sugar.
And it was as nasty as it sounds.
But it was for research!

Kay! My friend from work just got back from Cabo yesterday! Did you meet anybody from KY? Did you see a beach wedding on Saturday? Glad you had a goog time. It sounds like heaven.

Yes, there were a few beach weddings last week. Just at our resort, the Hacienda del Mar. There were probably 25 other weddings at various other locations. Destination weddings are currently all the rage. I hope your friend enjoyed her vacation as thoroughly as we did.

Celery.......we have to wait that many years for hubby to retire....cause of insurance purposes.......I fear the worse part of old age is having to pay for insurance.......our type of coverage now is so good.....and to have equal coverage like that would probably be around 1300 for both of us a month....I have alot of meds to take and so does hubby.......we have to make sure that we have good med coverage as well as doctors and hospitalization coverage.
When he had his accident two years ago....his bill was close to 100,000 ....we had to pay out of pocket 250.....200 for hospital here and fifty was for the hospital in the boonies......the two ambulance rides was covered too...having no insurance would scare me to pieces.....:scared1:

Twinkie! I have that same camo-bling too! Except mine is invisible unless I want to swap it for my money-shot. Which I'm not. :cool2:

So everyone has to use their imaginations on mine...isn't it pretty?

AND, I love your final girl name, Anunzia Americus Praline Montessori. It just rolls off the tongue. Very trendy. So glad to have contrbuted her middle name "a". Middle name "b" is gorgeous! (I'm hungry for ice cream now)

What was the final boy name again? Any leads? Did my Pilgrim lesson help? ;)

This is going to be a wonderfu Thanksgiving at the Montessori home! So many blessings :grouphug:

How soon until you'll be eligible for Medicare? Premiums are around 100 a month and almost everything is covered -
plus you can pick up a supplemental insurance relatively cheap from AARP.

Here's an interesting email exchange if you are bored.

Amber-
Do you have any Disney hopper tickets left or if not, do you know how one can go about getting cheap hopper tickets, or 2 2 day passes.

i would apprecaite all of your help.

Thanks,

mark

I don’t have anything other than my annual pass, and I don’t think you’d pass for me. ;)

The cheapest way I’ve found to buy tickets is through this link:

http://www.undercovertourist.com/united-states/florida/orlando/attractions

It’s only a tad bit cheaper, but they do ship for free.

You can try ebay, but be careful – if they are selling an already used Magic Your Way ticket, they expire within 14 days of first use unless the no expiration option was purchased.

It’s really expensive to go for only a couple of days – they try to convince you to stay longer and save money. And I fall for it every time. But it’s hard to resist when you can go for 3 days for $213 or 10 days for $232.

is it also better to get the magic your way or hopper tickets? i have sat night all sunday and half of monday to go

m

Magic your way will be good for only one park per day.

With the hopper option added, you can go to more than one park on one day – which I doubt you’d have time for.

I’d suggest just the base ticket and pick two parks to go to – or three if you want to go Saturday night too. I would not suggest Animal Kingdom or MGM/Disney Studios for Sunday since both of those can be done pretty fast if you just hit the high points. I would choose Magic Kingdom or Epcot for your full day.

If you are going this weekend, you can catch the last day of the food and wine festival at epcot on Sunday.

im going the first weekend in december..know of anything god then as well..

so it seems as though 2 adult 2 day park tickets is the way to go then..

How into Christmas are you?

There’s tons of “Holiday” stuff going on then, but I think most of it centers around Christmas. At Epcot on December 2nd Dennis Franz will be narrating the Christmas Story during the Candlelight processional. If you go December 1st, it’s Neil Patrick Harris.

On the 2nd, there is a Christmas party at the Magic Kingdom – it costs more and they kick the regular guests out at 7 PM so don’t go to the Magic Kingdom on the 2nd unless you want to buy a ticket to the event.

At MGM they have the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights – it’s a huge holiday light display. It starts at 6 PM.

Amber-

how are you finding out all of this information. Truth be told, i think we will have the most time on Sunday and all day monday. what do you suggest?

mark

I’m addicted to Disney World. I post on a message board that’s for Disney addicts. Disneyworld.com is a good website – disboards.com is what I post on. Anything you want to know can be found there.

But I can probably find it for you a lot easier.

Have you ever been to Disney World?

There are four parks –

Magic Kingdom – mostly rides geared towards family, but they are a lot of fun – what most people think of as “disney” This is where the castle is.

Epcot – divided into two parts – future world and world showcase – future world has really cool rides like Mission space, test track and soarin – world showcase has pavilions from 11 different countries that highlight the culture, food and shopping of that nation

MGM – mostly about movies, but my favorite ride is there (Tower of Terror)

Animal Kingdom – 4 great thrill rides, a safari adventure that will make you think you’re in Africa and two incredible shows

I suggest you pick the two parks that appeal to you most.

I personally think you would get the most out of Epcot on your longest day (Sunday) and choose one of the other parks for Monday. Once you let me know which parks you choose, I’ll give you a basic touring plan to follow so you won’t be wandering aimlessly in a circle. Unless you like that.

If only I could get my addiction to pay the bills instead of CAUSING the bills!

Yeahhhh! Celery saved the riddle! :cheer2:

(It's tacked onto the Wednesday riddle) GO PLAY! :yay:

Grocery shopping is done. I bought some Tussin DM(That's Walmart brand. ;) ) I HATE taking medicine, but coughing is getting so painful and I really want to hold out until my appointment on Tuesday.

Chad wants to go out to my parents house tonight and stare at the lot. lol. I got him to put all the grocerys away and make dinner. hehe

It's a really nice day today, only low 70's. Of course that's in the shade, which you really never are actually in. But it's still cooler than normal.

I am going to go and rest on the couch and watch CSI NY.

Have a good evening!

Now if only you had bought those pink camo capris and the matching gangsta bling hoodie.........Such a shame.

Well, maybe little Anunzia or Aloysius (or whatevah) will start a new trend of "prairie chic" and push the gangsta trend into obsolescence.
