1. We are still struggling with the loss of our young friend, but are thankful for the time we had with him. We got out some pictures we took of him in New Mexico (and at other rodeos) this year and last with Julia and it was nice to remember him in that way. The two girls are still in coma's and have swelling in their brain. One of the girls in the coma was the sister to the 14 yo girl who passed away. and although I do not know that family, I'm sure continued prayers are always welcome.

and prayers for all of you. I used it as a life lesson for DS the other night.

I let him drive yesterday to and from a friends house, and to ChickFilA to pick up dinner on the way home. He's getting better, but man I sure wish I had a brake on my side of the car.

3. We took the kids ice skating yesterday. They had never been, but I used to go all the time before I had the bbn babies. SOME people think I am not coordinated enough to ice skate, but those people would be losers.

I'm taking DD to her cousin's ice skating party today. She wants me to get out there with her. We'll see.....I would like to say there would be photo evidence of it, but I'm not sure that I can manage a camera and DD on the ice without breaking all of us.

My dear friend who was in an accident when we were 16 (this is different accident from my other friend who died when I was 15).... anyway- horrible accident, head on collision with a huge truck. My friend was in a coma for months and the other girl in her car died. My friend, who had been just accepted to join a ballet company as a junior membor, spent months in a hospital and then rehab. Her hip was crushed so learning to walk was a huge milestone and obviously a career as a dancer was over. My friend also had a brain injury from the impact that resulted complete short term memory loss. She had to relearn how to learn as well as everyday things like how to walk and read and all that stuff you take for granted. We wondered if she would ever be able to return to school and have a normal life.

Anyway- yesterday I recieved in the mail a copy of her book. A witty and irreverant look at brain function under stress based on her experiences as a barista at a well known pricy coffee joint that we cannot mention.

Being published is an amazing accomplishment for anyone- my friend had even a bigger challenge to get there. And I know that the prayers of friends, families and strangers through every step of the way was a big part of her recovery and healing (both physical and emotional).


Ok- I need to join Marita and Celleree in the salt mines. I hope all the moovers currently in or en route to Disney have a great time!

and it's not like the eeyore I made for a certain baby twinkie named Gabe that is still sitting on my desk.

Or like the butterfly needlepoint I started for my friend and never finished.

I swear I'm going to finish this one!
and actually give it to the person it was intended for!

I'm also going to buy a cupcake.

What do you mean, you never finished stuff for friends' babies? Something like the baby blaniket I started for baby Isaac? The remants of which I threw out in the great Xmas cleaning of 2008?

Just woke up for a nap. Waking up at 4:15 am does NOT agreee with me, especially going to bed after 1 AM.
I am going to tackle a beef stew now, I think, even though DS doesnt want any. He has Stuffed peppers non is wishlist. But since he took off in my carm that will not be happening today.

Santa brought Mal a "cup cake" maker for christmas.

(not the expensive toy you see on TV, but a box full of baking things to make cupcakes including a cute mixing bowl from WDW.)

So, today we made, frosted and sprinkled the cupcakes.

My motherly baking duties are complete for 2009.

I think i felt guilty not having any time while I was in school.

I laugh in your face, EliSabeth!!!!!!!! I have heard that story before..... Dogs, cats, ferrets, turtles... The kids leave, the pets stay.

now that the older kids are well, older, the feeding/watering/cleaning stalls/cages etc. are now part of their daily chores. i do help in subzero temps if necessary. and if they are going to to spend the night at a friends house, they have to make arrangements with a sibling to get the animals fed if it is their turn.

we have a rule (that is flexible, b/c life happens). but the rule is: you dont eat until your animals eat. that would be incentive in MY book.

Sorry Marita, I did not get up at 4:30am. I did get up about 8 or 9. I have the day off today.

DD and I snuck off to eat breakfast at the nearby diner, then I took her to the salon for a quick big girl" haircut.

Ok, it really went down like this:

DD: "Mom, are we going to get my hair cut today?"

Me: "But your hair is so pretty long."

DD: "Mom, we all have to grown up some time and cut our hair."

Me:

But I took her anyway. She does look older. Sorry no pics yet. When we came home, she talked her Daddy into taking her to wal-mart to spend her gift card money. Probably on clothes.

*sigh* Why do they have to grow up so fast.
