Hey, I used to work with the Disney Instite for almost 5 years. Back in 1996-2000, before they disolved the Personal learning part. Actually the Corporate part used to called Dsney University, until it got merged with the Disney Institute, (the faled part they closed down), but it retained the name and then got passed on to Convention Sales from then on (again)

What course did you take?

Hope something turns up for you soon on the job front!

I attended the The Disney Approach To Leadership Excellence back in 2006. It was the best management course I have ever taken. I brought DW with me and we had nearly a week at WDW without kids - it was a great time!!!

Glad you liked it! I'm sure the lack of kids didn't hurt either ;)

Oh a tidbit I in a Finance meeting learned today. They just opened a new restaurant at the Contemporary, called "The Wave". Organic, good for you foods, and an extensive wine list, and going green. So part of that is serving wines with screw tops (which I gather is the wave of the future to conserve cork, whereever that comes from?)

They don't call it screw tops, it's something like "Selvin seals"

So anyway, there was no cermonial wine opening re: a screwtop wine bottle at the table. The Somelier Socety of Ameica (or whatever it is called) that the cermonial part would be to TURN THE BOTTLE whle holdng the screw top!!! Which seems really awkward to me. And I don't know what the heck is ceremonial about it. Anyway, there where lots of jokes about it at a meeting today.
"would you like to sniff the scew top?"

Oh, and there was a joke about wine in a box, too. And we learned that that maybe the wave of the future, due to hermetical sealing.

So look forward to serving your guests wine in a box with a screw top!

Ack! Hound, where are you? Are you watching our show? Things are NOT going our way tonight!
No I didnt see the show or tape it either what happened?

DtD and I were out eating and drinking too much and I just got to dads house a little while ago

Hi gang. I thought I would pop in before I head to work for the day. Wendy, I love the speeding ticket story. Sounds like we both had "interesting" days. Thanks everybody for the well wishes. Gigantor is doing well. Cy, I made zucchini bread last night. I bet it tastes better than your banana bread. :stir: Snarky: My friend, Sybil, says I am a dichotomy too.;) MommyP: Cloth diapers? I never had the guts to try such a thing.

To all you stunning ladies on the thread: Have a great weekend.

To all you handsome fellas: Thanks for putting up with us ladies.

OH and Peej, whenever you read this....I finally got a new cell phone with a battery that works! So I downloaded me a Michael Buble ringtone. Duh.

Here's part of the song I downloaded. It reminded me of my relationship with my bff...always there for each other, and all that (utah) jazz.

'Cause you are not alone
I'm always there with you
And we'll get lost together
Till the light comes pouring through
'Cause when you feel like you're done
And the darkness has won
Babe, you're not lost
When your worlds crashing down
And you can't bear the thought
I said, babe, you're not lost

Life can show no mercy
It can tear your soul apart
It can make you feel like you've gone crazy
But you're not
Things have seem to changed
There's one thing that's still the same
In my heart you have remained
And we can fly fly fly away

GOOOOOOD MORNING!

So tomorrow is DS's birthday party at the pizza place with the rat. I reserved a party for 10 kids. I invited 14 kids. I have received 4 RSVPs. How many kids do you think will just show up and even thought their mom did not respond?

This is the problem with a late summer birthday....everybody is on vacation or going on vacation or just arriving home from vacation. This is the same problem we had 2 yrs ago and the reason I talked him into Kings Island instead of a party last year. :sad2:

So here's my dilemma....do I make up goody bags or not? I have absolutely no idea how many kids will be there. And personally I hate those little bags of junk. I'm thinking maybe no goody bags. The party is $11/kid and they don't even provide the cake!

So please vote....goody bags or no goody bags.
I've got to get it together today.

BNCG.....THE JONAS BROTHERS! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH! Very cool story. You are the best mom ever for wearing the pirate shirt. Did you ever get to the bathroom?

Wendee......Sorry bout your ticket. (hee, hee, snicker, snort) Good story. Thanks for the sucky wife tips. I need all of those I can get. ;)

Marita....I got a pm from nebo right before I went on vacation. He is actually working, kinda/sorta. Not sure about his hours. Maybe I'll call him this weekend and see what's up.

HAVE A GOOD DAY EVERYONE!

I'm reading - I'll start to respond, and poof - - I get knocked off...

frustrating that! I have a few moments before dh takes over his laptop! He's still working crazy hours!!

NBC Today show has Miley and all the fans that waited in the plaza - there was a thread on the CB about the VIP seats!!

The dogs - really stressing me out. The male (is nuetered) has become an "attack" dog, attacks w/o provocation the other dog, I have to throw a book at him, he also bites dd, and dh. The shelter said "that's terriers" I told them my behaviourist said they shouldnt have been adopted together, and I so agree. I cant afford to spend any more money on these dogs. They want me to hire a specialist behaviorist that has dvd's out - he's $200 a visit. I called my vet, he says I have to work with that behaviourist, and maybe I should give the dogs back. Great. They also take turns in leaving "surprises" in their crates. Yesterday it was awful...

also I have a lot of wedding stuff I'm working on. Got to get invites out. Mony and Moo - want to travel down to the lake?? (I 69 first exit from MI in IN!) what a mess.

I also have to run a stupid half marathon in 15 days. So not ready. really, not trained.

DD is in band camp - so car pool time.

Lexi #1 ds has an August bday - and same problem. We moved into a condo with a great pool (6th grade year) he invited, and we got 8 rsvp's day of - NO ONE SHOWED... no one! I called, and other things "came up" the moms were surprised when I said, no one showed up. It was our last party.

wow new 911 tapes out for that poor 2yr dd Caylee Anthony - just wow... sad.

I vote NO GOODY BAGS because I think we should all band together to end this evile custom.

If you really think you must give sumthin I have two options:
1. get some sort of small toy, buy 15, and return all the ones you don't give out
2. buy something school supply-ish- like a spiral notebook with something cool on instead of the solid color ones my kids will be sporting (5cents apiece this week at the walmarts- of course they are out of wide ruled) or some stuff from whatever Office Despot as on their penny sale rack

oh- here is another option, one big candy bar per kid, and in your "spare" time you can make a little label that says "thanks for coming to my party" and thus get out of thank you notes....

I think you will have 8 kids total.... but I am not really sure. No summer birthdays in our family.

Under Things I Wish I Had Done Differently-

I wish I had started a family tradition that you only get parties for certain milestone years like 6, 10, and 16 or 4, 8, and 12 or the like

utahmama- can you go to driving school or do diversion with your ticket? here it doesn't save any money but it does keep your halo shiny

mommyp- I second the comment of bravery on cloth. I hear that they are much easier nowadays and the diaper soaker thingy is amazing.

everybody else- hi! I am staying busy carting my kids to sports. Yesterday they were at the gym from 9-1 and then ate lunch in the car to be on time to soccer (1:30-2:30) and then played in the pool. A lovely day but they were all exhausted by 6 pm.

I spent the in between times playing on the computer... my dad has vista and it stinks. It took me all day to learn how to do a few simple things for my t-shirts that may never happen at this rate.

I second Twinkie on the evil treat bags!! 1 big candy bar, but I'd use the lil bags you can get at target, put school pencils, and a super ball (boys and balls always a hit!)

Wendy - wow!

Marita - we had a very good friend (a nurse in Chicago trauma center) who went to wdw every year - she LOVED the institute - she always came back super recharged! We never got the opportunity - the things we've missed in life!! I hear that Disney will roll out a new "year of" I hear Magical Celebrations - no more "give away dreams"...

say good by to Srabulous - Hasbro is suing - much like the "Music sharing websites" I'm sure they will get their way - because they came up with their own game!

I watched GMA with Miley, but my goodness this Today show appearance is ridiculous!

hmmm, I used to be a police officer and I am sure I would not have been giving you a warning, and yes I am a straight guy. I very seldom gave people warnings because the people I pulled over were needing a ticket - usually 15 mph over the limit, blowing red lights way late, etc.

Sorry about the ticket, hopefully your DH isn't too mad at you.

I have to tell you Utah, that I got pulled over by a straight woman - she LOL at my story and gave me a warning since I "learned my lesson from the last time"

1. when we first moved to this town, I 'rolled' thru a stop sign, got pulled over and asked who was a policeman in my family (I lied,) my uncle, but I was borrowing my dad's car... got a warning.

2 5 YEARS later. Took ds to a James Bond Movie (what was I thinking?) It was November (why I cant forget ?? I forgot how much sex is in JB movies!! quite the discussion) I was in dh's toyota, not my high minivan. and it was 7ish, dark, drizzly, and dang if all the cars in front of me were braking and driving slow... driving me crazy, I was passin 'em right and left! Finally got to our turn off.. and I came to a complete stop, and proceeded forward, and a nut job slammed brakes in front of me, and I honked and wizzed around that ...

SIRENS AND LIGHTS...

"ma'am do you know why I'm pulling you over?"
me... both hands on wheel, "no, but I know I came to a complete stop"
her "well that's about ALL you did right, i've been following you for 5 miles"
:scared1: "I'm sorry, no wonder all those cars were braking so much in front of me - I'm so not used to dh's car"

she came back and asked my ds if he learned anything - he said, yes, and gave several rules of road. She said since I learned my lesson from FIVE YEARs ago (how long do warnings stay in their accounts!) she would give me a warning!!

DS always comes to complete stops. and we now know that section of 4lane road is a "speed trap" goes from 45 to 25 yo 50 to 35 .... I may be the only one that wasnt issued a ticket!!

melinda - I say get some goody bags with handles to put their tokens, tickets and random junk they get at the mouse house.
I never have enough pockets for tokens and tickets and junk!
and I hate those little cups chuck e gives you.
Make sure the goody bags have a handle on them so the kids can still have both hands free to win prizes! woo!

if you are so inclined, get something cheap to throw in there in the dollar aisle at target'

sandy - sorry about the puppies. :(
I brought riley with me to work today. he's in my car in the parking garage.

twinks - only occasional birthday parties!
what are you thinking? ;)

Looks like it is going to be first day without rain and I'm going to go out and enjoy it!! Plus it is the last day of just Hannah and I , Nicholas finishes camp today.

UMA-- I remember the last time you got off ....sorry about this time. That's a pretty big ticket.

Babynurse -- sorry about the tongue. That's got to hurt. My sister is taking her kids to the see the Jonas Brothers in August at Darien Lake.

Lexi-- I hate those loot bags.....but the kids do love them and can't wait to see what they get. My favourite thing they got was a gift card from DQ for $5.00 the kids liked it too no junk just the card. If you get something like that and they didn't show up you can use them yourselves. Or you can always wait and get the loot bags at the rat. They would just add it to your bill.

Sandy-- sorry about the dog troubles  Sounds like you have a lot of stress going on right now.

when our granddaughter was going to a party almost every weekend......swim parties at the Y and then cake and party after. Well some of these families got smart and started to do......In a gift bag, instead of presents, they would each buy 5 dollars worth of school supplies, and they would put them all on a table ....each kids name was put in a bucket and one kid at a time would get a choice of the bag. Another one is everyone would bring a bag or can of dog food for the dog shelter...worked better then gifts that cost an arm and a leg and the kids loved getting these......

Oh yah good morning everyone....sun is out after the storms of yesterday. WE had some bad ones all day and the rain was horrible. Flash floods and tornados watches in Maine and NH ...one person in NH died when the house toppled down......it was a scarey day. We probably got 4 or so inches of rain.....we are over done now....

have a good day

Good morning Moovers!

Well, I overslept this mornng (till 9:30) and decided to work from home today. Which I am sure the boss wouldnt be happy about, since he is taking today off.. But, what the heck, it's slow right now, not like anybody is going to come looking for me with a financial emergency, LOL. Besides, i am in email.

Lexi, I vote NO goody bags. They'll have the games they can play. I never even heard of goody bags until a couple of years ago. Glad that Nebo is working. Just odd that there has been nothing anywhere from either of them for so long.

Sandy, so sorry about the dog, yikes! An all the other stress you got going on

Have a great day everyone!

I vote FOR the loot bags. I agree in giving them school supplies. You could make the bags up at the party and return what you don't give away.

But there is something in knowing that you have sent kids home on a sugar high (evil laugh).

That's my thought.

Hope everyone is having a good morning!!!:hippie:

The Contemporary is leading the (Green) way with screw cap wine! I'd have a hard time with that too. Not to mention wine-in-a-box. :sad2: That restaurant does sound timely and good.

I vote for simple goodie bags that they can also use for tokens/tickets/prizes (an original Celery idea that I'm copying and claiming as my own!)

Hit the dollar store for gimmicky candy, temporary tattoos, and anything that is gross, slimy, insecty, boogary, farty, etc. (boyish)

I have a FULL file under that category.

I'm looking into any options (if any) for keeping my halo pristine!

Moo checking in briefly. My sister's dad passed away yesterday afternoon. I'm a tad ornery today because the funeral arrangements are going to be a major pain for me schedule-wise and my hubby is out of town for work next week so I'll have to go alone. I had been hoping for a weekend service.

Sorry to vent. I shall return when I'm less grumpy.

Hope my Scrabble games haven't disappeared :(

My son just called.

He fnished his week in the woods. They were waiting for a bus to take them back to base. He said they were all wet and stinky. But mission accomplish, WOOHOO!

So he said something about the graduation ceremony. His sister and I get to pin his gold bars on his shoulders. I'm going to cry like a baby, and I'm afraid I'll drop the thing :scared1: I said, why not your dad? Well, apparently, they get their first salute from an enlisted man, and hubby gets to be the man (he was enlisted in the Army). And there is something involving a coin from the mint he his going to give his dad, but the exact meaning of which I didn't catch.
Also, a commissioned officer has to swear them in. So he got to pick, and chose his High School buddy who graduated just 6 weeks ago. So he is coming in from Pensacola to swear him in.

Tonight they get an introduction to the Officers club, where they have exciting things like hot dogs, hamburgers, Karaoke and BOOZE. He said that he doubted most people would be able to drink much, after having nothing for 3 months and a week in the woods. He said he would probably be snockered after 2 beers:laughing: . Anyway, he wasn't planning on drinking much, if any, and keep his nose clean (good boy). He's not much of a drinker anyway.

So that is my exciting news of the day. :woohoo:
