Lynette- you are a good mother. Except you obviously didn't feed him enough processed food in his formative years.
He doesn't eat pretzels? goldfish? WHEAT THINS???
This lunch thing is way harder than it looks. My poor kids eat in the cafeteria... but the food is way nicer than anything we had growing up. They even have entree choices and can always choose yogurt if they don't like any of the choices for the day.
However the first grade eats at 11 am... and since they catch the bus at 8 and don't get off until 4 it is long afternoon. So they are allowed to bring a snack only it must follow the rules:
no peanut products of any kind
nothing sweet or dessert like
nothing that needs a spoon
nothing that requires heating
the child must be able to open it all by themselves
should not make a mess
must be healthy- any cookies, brownies, chips, cheetos etc will not be allowed
This is pretty limiting. I get that the teacher can't be opening little jars of applesauce and of course you shouldn't expect to heat up soup or pop popcorn in class. I would understand the peanut thing if anyone had an allergy- but no one does. I think it is school policy to keep every room but the cafeteria peanut free. To me, peanut butter and crackers is a great healthy snack.
As a result, today I purchased hand-i-snax for the first time.
