We had storms come through here last night, lost power again, but only for 6 hours

BUT!

My basement flooded.

We've been up since 3am extracting water.

Now I give up, and i'm just gonna start ripping the carpet and padding out.

It's ruined.

Did I ever mention thats where I do daycare? My basement?

Oh, the mess I have.

Actually, it was kind of funny b/c when I got home from work the other day (I dont know which day, they are all running together), Caleb said "Mom. sit down"

I was thinking "Uh oh. What did the little rugrats do this time?"

and when I'm sitting on the couch, he says "Are you ready?"

Caleb: "Peyton Manning is having knee surgery. He will be out for at least 4 to 6 weeks." And then he patted me on the back and just shook his head. I'm surprised he didn't hand me a tissue. lol

anyway, back to the thread.

I know exacyly how you feel..its happened to me twice the last 3 years first time about 10 inches of water...and then this past April the 4th... 2 ft of water with 6 pumps running it was waist deep oustide the back basement door an my Van got flooded too ....I still dont have all the mess cleaned up ...

your carpet can be extracted pulled up an dried out if its farely new carpet that is.

Something I do a lot. ha.
anyway, I have figured out how to get my credit card paid off by 2010.
but I'm incurring more school loan debt.
(at a lower interest rate)
and to make this work -
I have 81.58 a month to spend on food!
HA!

I think I'm going to start buying double cheeseburgers at mcdonalds and freezing them.
it's really the cheapest source of protein I can figure out.
so 2 double cheeseburgers a day + yogurt + cereal bar for snack = 4.40
I can do this!

I will DEFINITELY be in for a trip in 2010.
In the mean time, I'm trying to convince the breadman to pay my way for a June 09 trip - which he'll probably do since I'll handle the lodging with the time share.
I'm also trying to finagle a Carnival cruise for us and the kids spring break 09.
I've been watching prices and right now one leaving from Mobile (within driving distance) is 1256 for all four of us! That's for 5 nights!

we'd be able to drive my car and use my points from Hilton to stay at a homewood suites the day before and after the cruise.
Now the only drawbacks are convincing him to pay and whether he can get that week off or not.
Disney is more doable since we're more flexible having the whole month of June to go.

bh - When I was little, I used to help my dad clean rabbits and squirrels (for all non hunters, "clean" means to get all the yucky stuff like fur and guts out of the way so you can eat it), but I don't think I could do it anymore.
But I'll gladly eat rabbit if someone wants to fix it for me and hide all the evidence!

Monica Sorry to hear about your basement flooding. Isn't it Moo who usually has the no power/no internet episodes? Now you and me. We had a horrendous thunderstorm this morning at about 9:00 AM. Didn't get power back until 3:00. Of course Lowell was away so I attempted to hook up to the auxiliary power system on my own. I managed to get the office stuff running after an hour or so, didn't blow myself up or electrocute the cats. No damage here, just inconvenient, so I really can't complain. There is no way to salvage your carpet? Will you be able to hold daycare despite pulling up the carpet etc.? Or will there be too much upheaval while you are getting the basement back to normal?

No, I couldn't salvage the carpet cause this is the third time it got wet and it wasn't just a small area, it was EVERYWHERE. And it was dirty, but not sewer dirty. And I just won't have little kids playing on that.

And I wouldn't let Tim help, and eventaully I needed help moving the big stuff, so my nephew came over and he was just a lifesaver.

So, I'm totally exhausted. I'm parking my booty here for a while and I think it's an early bed time for me and 2 girls.

I'll call it slumber party in mamma's bed and when they fall asleep I'll put them back in their own beds.

Cel, way to go with the budget. Remember the tip from the budget boards. Get a double burger and an extra bun, that way you can have 2 burgers. The extra bread will fill you up more.

I think it's going to be a slow weekend around here. Let's see, we are missing Twinkie, Lynt, Lexi, PJ, BN (running around like a madwoman), Cel at Breadman's, Kay soon off too. And probably many others out to enjoy the summer.

Talked to DS today. He decided he wants to leave after the graduation to drive home and spend a couple of days here and buy a car. When the lease on his BMW ran out, he got hubby's old car after he quit his Pizza Hut job, and it as almost 200K miles on it. That won't do for driving to Texas and then Colorado and then back to Texas. He said it died again this weekend. Anyway, that is just fine with me. So we leave early Monday and get home Wednesday night, and I still have 2 days off.

Another thing he said is that he has his last test tomorrow. Combat fighting. (tackeling, choking and wherver else the heck they teach them there) They had tow practice rounds so far, and he said that a lot of people are hurt and even in the hospital The test tomorrow is graded and is what counts. I just hope DS doesn't get hurt tomorrow! (DS is NOT a big guy)
I asked about what about the poor guys that got hurt? He said they would take the average of the tests they did, and I hope they all graduate. This whole thing has been so much tougher than I ever imagined!

We went to Kona today for our Budget celebration lunch. It was very good, actually. I ended up getting the crab cakes (I only had one and shared the rest), the chicken sandwich (1/2 - got the rest to go), and 1/2 of the banana chocolate creme brulee. All were very good.
