Moonlight Magic Question

I am new to Moonlight Magic but have owned DVC for a few years. Do you need to be in a DVC room for registration? Or can you be booked anywhere on property? I assume you need to be at a DVC resort for the early registration.

THanks!
You don't need a DVC reservation for Moonlight Magic.

You qualify for early registration if you have a reservation either made with DVC points or if booked with $$ via member services.

If you don't have a stay or don't have a qualifying stay, you can try to register at the normal registration timeframe.

We had a stay last Feb on rented DVC points and that disqualified us. It was a new change to registration at the time. Now you need to be blue card and staying on your own points (those can be direct or resale points, just as long as they’re yours).

Good point, rented points may not be linked to your membership. If the points are transferred - therefore in your membership, i expect that would work.

Yes I think that’s right. The reservation needs to be made from your own membership, and that would be the case when using transferred points.

Can anyone confirm if the MM day is your checkout day - does it count?
From what I've read on these boards you can checkin or checkout the day of MM and qualify for early registration (as long as you are staying on DVC points or booked cash via member services and/or any other hoops).

Is it just me, or does anyone else wish that they would release MM dates at least 11 mo ahead of time :). I have to fly to Orlando for our yearly disney trip, and would love to plan around MM and eat to the beat/garden rocks.

I happened upon a Gin Blossoms Garden Rocks concert once. I was hooked after that. It was Plain White T's the last few years lol.

DVC requires a lot of planning, and it would be nice to have all ducks in a row. I know, wishful thinking!

Even if you know in advance and book around MM, there is no guarantee you will win the lottery and get registered for MM.

The more people plan around MM, the more frustrated they are if they don't get it. It seems like it may be intentionally a late-addition to seem like a bonus and not something to expect.

We haven't been to a MM magic in years. Maybe even a decade. I also remember the DVC winter holiday gatherings, and the little bonus DVC ornament that they used to give out. We only went to one. It was in Epcot. It was so super cute. Now we go during school breaks so we miss out on a lot, which is fine.

DH and I talk about how we will fly to disney and stay for 2 months on our points, wandering around the parks when kids go to college. First world problems...

This is so true and seems to me a rookie mistake in thinking. All those DVC rooms across property which run at full capacity and everyone in them as long as they qualify are eligible for early registration… I’ve logged in on a dime and been over number 10,000 in the queue…a valid booking guarantees you zip.

I agree, DVC doesn’t want the headache of more unhappy people… if you get lucky… and I have from time to time… consider it a bonus!

It is possible that getting it coordinated with parks and resorts takes time and why we don’t know sooner.

Correct. I have an upcoming reservation where my check-out day is the day of MM, and I got the email saying that it is a qualifying reservation. Unfortunately, we won't go this time. Before the MM dates were announced, we had already bought plane tickets & DW has an appointment the next day. Some people might be able to take advantage of it on check-out day, but not us for this trip.

Make sure you keep your confirmation email or screenshot it so if there is an issue you have it.

My band scanned and didnt show me registered…I had to show the confirmation and it was fine. CM wasn’t sure why it happened.

So I have a cash reservation made through Member Services. I have the confirmation email and its on my Disney Experience, but I don't have anything that mentions Moonlight Magic. Is that an issue?

The resort reservation itself won't say anything about MM. It's just the MM booking system that should recognize you have an eligible stay that allows you to try to book at the earliest time.

Is there a possibility that more dates will be added in the fall? Not seeing anything past September...
