Moonlight Magic! - Is it for "second class" DVC owners like me who bought AFTER the 2016 cutoff?

-They just announced a date change for next summer, but I wasn't sure if I would need the coveted "direct or pre-2016 blue owner card" in order to attend, anyone know if I do?

Direct and pre 4/16 only. Not you, I'm afraid.
Thanks for the info. I will go cry in my bear and go back in the corner now. I am not worthy, I am not worthy.... :worship:

By the way, how do they KNOW whether a member is pre or post 4/16? Do they really ask to see the 'blue' membership card at Moonlight?

You can buy a 25 point add on contract and be considered a "Full" member.

We bought our resale contract with 25 less points than we needed for this very strategy. Works great and I never have to worry if I 'qualify' for the perks... at least until they see through the 25 point add-on and phase us out too. :)

They will almost certainly phase out the minimum purchase of 25 to qualify, most likely by making it 50. Sooner than later.

They’re already starting with CCV sales.

But. You’ll most likely be grandfathered.

Late to this concept. I've been a member since the beginning - all purchased through Disney. If I want to pick up more points on a resale contract, does it change my status?

There are two types of “status,” so to speak; membership and point status.

Anyone who purchased any of their points directly from Disney, and any resale purchasers from before 4/4/16 have full membership benefits.

All directly purchased points and any resale points purchased before [some time in 2011, maybe March?] are qualified points that can be used for certain types of redemption.

The only thing different about those points is they cannot be traded in for hotel stays, cruises, etc. The "blue card" membership stays as long as you have any direct sale or pre 4/16 points in your account though.

I went to the Epcot event in December, you had to show your blue member card and photo ID to get the wristbands for admission.

Just to clarify, all purchasers direct and resale at any time are full members. That is full members of DVC, which attaches by appertuance to the real estate interest and in DVDs own words cannot be separated.
Post April 16 resale buyers only just don't get DVD freebies and additional (non RCI) trade outs, which are all done for marketing new timeshares and not contractual or supplied by the member's club of DVC.

There has been some confusion when booking Moonlight Magic. Apparently if your reservation is under post 2016 resales points (think that is the date) your reservation will appear as if it is not under full membership benefits, even if you have a direct contract within that same membership. I think calling MS helps resolve the issue.

You are 'marked' for life as an outsider.
