I must admit, I just lost my temper. My neighbor just got the full force of my wrath and it has been building up for awhile.

I have lived in this rental home since August and the neighbors have become a real problem. The neighbors have 4 children, I think the oldest is like 13ish and the youngest a toddler. Anyway these people send two middle kids (maybe 6 and 7 ish?) to knock on the door all the time to borrow things. They need butter to make mac and cheese, they are out of milk can they borrow 3 cups for a recipe etc etc etc. In the last week they have borrowed tin foil, sandwich baggies, duct tape, 4 eggs, red pepper flakes, a roll of toilet paper twice and who knows what else from my husband when I am not home. Anything that they borrow never comes back, which for the spices irritates me. At first it was not a big deal, but it happens DAILY and I have started earlier this week saying sorry we do not have any to whatever they ask for. I have told my husband to do the same. Well today one of the kids came over to ask to use the printer, I apologized and said we are out of ink. It was a lie, but frankly I want these people to bug off. After sending her off she came back and said her mom asked if I could run to the store since she needed something printed before tommorrow. Are you kidding me lady? I went over to knock on her door and she said that since i have no kids I obviously can afford to buy some more ink. That was it, I lost it!!!

By the way, I am obviously rich. I am not sure what gave it away, the 13 year old car in the driveway or my fabulous wardrobe of old scrubs that I wear to work. I have no kids, so I must be rolling in the dough. And for the record these neighbors both have new cars. They have a brand new Ford Explorer and those have not been out more than a few months and they also have a Dodge Durango, also a newer model. The kids all go to private schools I am guessing by the uniforms they wear. I think she can get her but in her own car and go get some darn ink.

Hopefully she does not know you have a love for Disney or else she may be asking to take a kid or two with you on your next visit!!!
I probably would have gotten to that breaking point also....why do some people 'expect' others to be so generous and giving...it should not be expected, but appreciated and not taken for granted. :goodvibes:

I do not think they grocery shop! I see them kocking on other doors, I wonder how much loot they get.

Do you live next to my mom??? Growing up she did this all the time. She'd send my sister and i to all the neighbors. It was very embarassing and we knew the neighbors were pissed off. Sometimes I'd lie and say sorry, so and so is out of milk, vanilla, sugar, eggs, etc. We got made fun of so bad by the neighborhood kids.

I'm glad you didn't take your wrath out on the poor kiddos but the mom deserves it!

Still to this day my mom sees nothing wrong with it. Of course she never returned the items and no one ever borrowed from us.

I agreeshe had it coming.asking someone else to go to the store to buy something so she can borrow it is ridiculous! it's even worse that printer ink in most cases is NoT cheap. Hopefully your blow up today keeps her from sending her kids to your house from now on!

ugh.. that is so annoying Last year when our newest neighbors moved in (2 houses down from us) we would suddenly get "requests" for stuff.(at least it was the mother and not the kids asking!)..at first I didn't mind, but it was constant (not daily, but at least 2 times a week). I started saying, I'm sorry, I have a limited amount of that left for US until my next shopping trip... once or twice she was like, well' I'll pick up a new supply for you when I go to the store and I just told her no, I didn't have any extra available. The requests finally stopped (and so did the friendly waves) but at least I get to use my own eggs!!

and for the record, I have owned my house for 15 years and in that time have only borrowed 1 thing 1 time from a neighbor... and my other neighbors on occasion have "borrowed" things from me, but there is a difference between the occasional oh my goodness I need such & such vs a constant demand. I don't mind being helpful, but I'm not taking anyone extra to raise!

I'm surprised it took you so long - that's crazy! What nerve. I have borrowed eggs, (though I gave half the brownies I made with them in return so I think that's fair!) and when I was little my mother once sent me next door to borrow some ingredient but it was like, once and I thought it was all fun because I hadn't known you could do a thing like that (and we were pals with the neighbours). But that was it!

I can't believe she actually had the nerve to say that to you! What is wrong with people?

I'd send them an invoice for everything they've "borrowed" especially the spices - you mean they took the whole jar? Next time like, sprinkle pepper flakes in a kid's hand and send them on their way.

I do feel bad for the kids, not their fault their mother is a nutter.

I have a neighbor a little like that also. I stock up on sale items so it looks like I have plenty to share so she comes over all the time to borrow, even though she has two boys who drive that could easily go out and buy the items she needs. I don't mind much, but because she has a dog (I am afraid of dogs) I never borrow from her, just send DD out to buy whatever we are out of.

OMGosh! I think my mouth is hanging open still! The nerve of some people!:confused3

I was out scooping snow the other day before work and my neighbor asked if she could borrow $20. :confused3 I barely know her to say hi.

I still haven't seen the coupon book that I ordered from her kids for their school fundraiser in September.

We have a community pool and it costs $25 for a key. Our neighbor kept asking to borrow it. It was aggravating because she sent her son to ask. One day they borrowed it and 5 hours go by, so I sent my son down to get it back. Mom answers the door, has no idea what my son is talking about. So, I walk down, and say look, I want the key back. She says her husband went to the store and took it with him. She will get it back when he comes home.

Next day, still not returned, I walk down again, pretty pissed. Said husband took it to work, sorry ect.
Finally get it back that night.
Can you believe she sent her son back that week to borrow it again? :confused3
I told her son we had lost it. They never asked again and thankfully moved 2 months ago.
On the other hand, my immediate neighbor has been rally helpful to me. As a recently divorced, single mom, I have borrowed some tools from him that I didn't have, he also helped me with a clogged toilet and hanging a new door.
In return, I got him and his son into the local high school football games for free and my 12 yo DD often plays with his younger son and keeps him entertained.

The people across the street do this from time to time. Their little girl plays with mine, so they always send her. It wasn't a big deal until my husband gave them my last two eggs that I needed that night to make supper! I told him to start lying and saying we didn't have whatever...they eventually got the hint.

She wanted you to go to the store for ink so she could print something? That is crazy.

sheesh! Asking you to go out to buy something for her to borrow?!? That is insane and incredibly rude!

I'm in shock--complete shock! Ink can be expensive... and whatever she needs to print is her responsibility not yours!!! We have gum moochers at work, and it's aggrevating, lol. I normally say I don't have any. Someone asks you for one piece, then 7 others come up behind them... ummm sorry--this is everyday--I am not a vending machine!

I would never give them another thing, and if it becomes more of a problem... I would request her to give you cash for all that she has taken in the past :thumbsup2

I don't even have word. I would have lost it too!

I am also floored because we have never thought to ask a neighbor for anything. One neighbor has helped us out and snow blowed out sidewalk for us (we were away) and we borrowed tools once but it was returned within the hour.

wow. i am floored.

You don't have to answer but can I ask what she said or did after you lost it?

lol, first I would have told the kid to emailed to office depot and print it there for 10 cents.

second, I'd call the landlord, if ya'll's are 1 in the same. If not, I'd still call and let them know you are being pestered to death and maybe he can send them a lovely lil note ?

I should be surprised but I'm not.

The things people do these days no longer surprise me. Good for you for putting a stop to it.
