Dh and I are going to Montreal this weekend (staying at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth) does anyone have any good restaurants to recommend (we have the non pricey lunch breakfasts sorted we are looking for a fine dining option).

Thanks

Well it all depends what your preferences are! Montreal is crawling with fine dining experiences. Many establishments take a nouvelle cuisine approach: Verses, Area, Globe, le Deux & Cube are the main examples. St-Laurent offers some high end Italian, but in rather loud, clubby atmospheres.

Let me know what exactly you are looking for!

Mezze on Saint Laurent Boulevard is one of my favourites. It has Greek/Med. food served tapas style. My family likes to go to Gibby's in Old Montreal for special occasions.

I guess we are looking more for formal style (romantic dinner for two with the ability to hear each other?) not clubby.

Cuisine wise we are quite adventursome (except hubbie doesn't eat sushi). So nouvelle, ethnic styles are fine.

Thanks for the help so far.

The Fairmont is about a 1/2 walk to Old Montreal and a nice walk as well. I believe I went to Gibby's (steaks?) and it was fabulous. It's nice to walk in Old Montreal and ask the shopkeepers where they like to eat, by doing that we found a restaurant off the main street in OM and had a wonderful meal there too. There are lots of open patios and menus are mainly posted outside each restaurant.
There's a Movenpick across the street from the hotel but other than the fast food underneath it in the train station (Tim Hortons!) I usually ate in Old Montreal.

has anyone else heard of Mezze? Do I need reservations there as that would be great for Friday night but I'm not sure of what time we will arrive.

Thanks in advance

I live a block away from Mezze! it is not usually jam-packed on Fridays like the usual celebrity hotspots (Buena Notte-Globe)

Here is their telephone number 514-281-0275.

I recommend taking a stroll on St-Laurent between Sherbrooke and Avenue Des Pins (About 5 blocks) and you will hit about 10 interesting choices and you can peruse the menu and soak in the atmosphere. Maybe have an early martini at Go-Gogo Lounge or Mélies. Keep in mind that folks here tend to eat dinner quite late (especially on St-laurent)...

PM if you need more info and....Bon appétit!
