I think of it like crack cocaine......I might like it so why risk trying it ?

:lmao: :rotfl2:

I can understand this! It's kind of like deep-fried Twinkies at the state fair. You can't believe you're putting this garbage in your mouth, but it tastes soooo good... that's why it's good we only go once a year!

Thanks so much for all your responses so far! It's interesting to see what different opinions people have. I will probably try the cheese version, but I'm sure I won't eat all of it. Just to try it. Usually when I'm on vacation, I try not to each TOO much junk, cause my body is stressed already. When we were there in March I ate lots of salad, veggies and fruit, and drank tons of water. (Whitewater Snacks in GCH! Loved their selection of cut-up fruits and veggies!) When I had a treat I usually enjoyed a bite or two, then shared the rest with DH or DDs, or tossed it out.

I love that thing, love love love it!!!! But, it has a ton of calories so I don't get it often. I have had it 3 times in the past 2 years, not too bad! lol I do love it though!

I've never had it. From everything I've heard, it just sounds way too rich for my poor tummy. With my stomach, no doubt it would make me sick!

I had one on our last trip. DS didn't want one but finally agreed to try mine. He was kicking himself for not ordering one and finished off mine. He wanted to go back again and get one for himself but we didn't have time.

If anyone comes across the recipe for this please post it. I've looked in all the Disney cookbooks and they only have the meat version.

My son (11) and I shared one on our last trip in December. It is the right size then. :)

Wouldn't it be the same just without the meat? Or do they use different cheeses on it? Man, it would be trouble if I had that recipe...please don't share it! :lmao:

I tried to ask for the recipe on the DW recipe tread and got no response. I would rather eat healthy here and live it up on vacation , so I would never dream of looking at the calories of any thing at DL! It does seem like it would be a lot of work to make at home.

Is this anything like the Monte Cristos at Bennigans? I love the one that you can dip in guacomole sauce...yummy! If they have that at Disneyland, I could be in heaven...but probably not in my budget either.

They have recipes copycats for Bennigan's Monte Cristo, http://www.recipezaar.com/26049

Check it out and see if it might be close.

The first two I ever had were very good. The next time not so good. Hey, but I am all for giving it another try when we go in November! I am going to go with the cheese version since I think I liked it best. Everyone ought to try it just once!

I think they use swiss cheese in the meat version. The other version has "three" cheeses and I'm not sure what cheeses they use. I think one is swiss and one may be brie - but I'm not sure.

You need one more selection: Never tried it but dying to!

We'll be going in September and it's definitely on our list.

mmm deep fried twinkies...those are so good. I have only had those once and heard they couldn't sell them anymore (too much trans fat).

Monte Cristo has always been one of my favorites at DL. I mean I figure if I have one every couple of years it is not that bad. However, the last time I had one not only was the sandwich served, but au gratin potatoes and a salad...for lunch!! That is too much food...I mean au gratin potatoes...that is taking it a little too far. Also, I noticed after doing Weight Watchers that my tastes have changed. Not sure if the sandwich got worse or if my tastes changed.

That being said, I love Blue Bayou and will continue to frequent and order the Monte Cristo. Hopefully my DD will start liking them and we can split one. Either way...it's a spurlge...both in calories and cost. And for me that is what my disney trips are about.

I think you're right. Not a weight watchers gal myself, but we started trying to eat healthier at home a couple of years ago.

I used to LOVE the Monte Cristo and had it at least once, if not several times, every trip to DL :rolleyes1

I ordered one last trip and couldn't eat more than a couple of bites, and I still felt yuk the rest of the day. Same deal with those greasy In-N-Out burgers.

Now if I could just re-train myself the same way when it comes to chocolate. Marceline's is my downfall. :rotfl2:

Love it, but it's best to share, rather than putting myself in a grease coma for the rest of the day!

But we did not enjoy the french toast monte cristo. Not good!

According to the Café Orleans menu, they use Swiss, mozzarella and double crème Brie. :thumbsup2

grease coma :lmao:

Who has the french toast? Cafe Orleans? French toast is pretty darn rich by itself, can't quite see having it deep fried in batter as well! Yikes!
...Oh, who am I kidding, how is that different from a battered and deep-fried ham and cheese sandwich?
