Monsters Inc. Rollercoaster?

I would sooner believe that Disney would build the Monster Inc coaster in MY backyard than believe a Jim Hill Story....

i could be jim hill...catch a sniff of one rumor and then throw it up on a badly designed web page because i think it sounds "neat"

You realize that the Monster's Inc Coaster was put up on the cast member portal by an Imagineer, right? It exists. Whether it ultimately gets built is another question, but the idea for it and concepts exist.

Can you cite anything that you can prove that Jim has flat out made up with regards to the Disney parks?

It "exists" as only a rumor at this point

They reported this in 08...09...10....

now i see screamscape says today that it's a "go" for 2014...but we won't hear anything until November 2012...then we'll see if it's a "go"

it's a bunch of junk...jim hill is the lead pusher of disney related junk. There is only one way to confirm anything...construction walls and cranes.

The disney cast portal has NOTHING on it that would qualify as developing news...disney employees are almost always the last to know anything...and they certainly don't put in development projects on there for tens of thousands of random hourlies to see.

this is like a bus driver rumor. is the idea real? probably... have they done artists work or studies on it? again...probably. but that doesn't mean much...its a Blue Sky junket at this point...and we know that there have been enough concepts worked on at this point to fill 100 parks by now...but yet most are "archived"

I personally can't wait unitl Thunder Mesa opens at the Magic Kingdom in October of 1971:woohoo:

as far as flat out making it up...that isn't the right question. can i prove that jim hill presents innuendo and rumor from a variety of "insider" sources without confirming the validity of both the "info" or the source? Ummmm.....heck yeah

sea "Night Kingdom"..."Villians Park"...."5th Gate Exclusive park for adults only like Discovery Cove with Ziplines and animals and real life adventures and even relocating the Adventures Club to serve as the entry portal instead of dismantling it and selling it for aluminum scrap"

i've read jim hill for a long time...and this is all the kinda junk that has been thrown out there as "coming soon"

and i almost forgot my favorite: the Wide World of Sports Water Park....love that one...i visit the ping pong bumper boats pool every time i go :lmao:

Recently Jim posted an article about Pixie Hollow getting the axe. He was sitting on that for well over a month while he verified it with multiple sources, even though the main source he had was very good.

By your own admission, nothing is confirmed until construction walls go up. Jim said as much on our show the first time we had him on. What I think is unfair is the "grain of salt" tag that people throw on placed like Screamscape, Jim Hill or Al Lutz. They have inside information and the information they can verify as credible they post.

When things change, there's not much they can do about it other than sit back and listen to the black and white public that insists on dealing in absolutes. You have to be able to recognize what constitutes a strong rumor or not. I maintain a thread on wdwmagic.com and wdwfannetwork.com that is a compilation of rumors about Disney World. Something like this Monster's Inc Coaster I've classified as "Legitimate Rumor, but no timetable". This is after talking with Jim Hill, after seeing the photos from the cast member portal, after seeing it on screamscape, and after seeing several insiders on other sites saying that it's still in the works. The project is alive in as much as it hasn't been announced and it hasn't been canceled.

You mentioned Night Kingdom, which was also one of Jay Rasulo's pet projects. It got the axe when the economy went in the toilet, but once again it existed. I treated that "rumor" the same way. It's something that's being considered, there's no real timetable at this time but it's something that is definitely being considered.

The problem is that even when Disney makes an announcement regarding a project, it's still not guaranteed to happen. Does that mean we need to take official press releases with a grain of salt also? I don't think that level of condescension is necessary with press releases any more than I think that level of condescension is necessary with any that has valid sources on rumors.

Disney announced Pixie Hollow in September of 2009, but by December, the original plans for Pixie Hollow were already in flux, and less than a year later many insiders have said that it's not happening. Projects like Beastly Kingdom, New World Showcase Pavilions, Thunder Mesa, and David Copperfield's Magic Underground have had coming soon signs up in the parks, or have been announced in official documentation from Disney. Does that mean that Disney was lying to us? No, it means they're a company, that things change, and that projects were canceled.

If you chose not to believe anything that rumor sites say, then you very well may be better off. But there are those of us that enjoy this type of discussion.

Let me guess he also said PI was opening back up, monorail was being expanded and POLY DVC was progressing. I read little into rumors in general, but ones from Jim Hill go to the bottom of the list.

One more for Jim Hill. Unless this is a conspiracy. :lmao:

I personally would rather hear a rumor, being specifically told it was a rumor, than being left in the dark.

I don't disagree. But I really like the odds. Have any money? I'll start betting that what Disney says will. And you can bet me what Jim Hill says will happen will.

Everytime I read about the "monorail" expansion I just laugh...I mean it's like making much to do about adding a turn around for buses outside of the GF or something like that.

I like how this thread went from the subject of the rumored coaster to a Jim Hill roast. Rather than argue the source, a rumor is a rumor, no one ever stated that Jim confirmed the project or even stated its imagineering existence. I posted a thread a year or two back where I jumped the gun on assuming the littlest rumor was confirmation of the monsters coaster. I now know better and I still look into rumors, no matter the source. So.....how bout the possibility of that coaster? Thatd be fun :3dglasses

Ive heard this rumor before, in fact Ive heard a rumor its going to be a Inverted Coaster, meaning you lie on you back (think Seaworld's Manta ride) meaning its probly going to be a thrilling chase through the doorchase.

I hope this rumor will become come ture sometime before/after the sequel comes out :goodvibes .

I agree, but it's still an expansion (albeit for mantenance). A real expansion will never happen, but it is what it is.

Definitely. I have high hopes for a Monster's Inc. Coaster making it's way to DHS someday. I still enjoy hearing rumors, just knowing that with Disney, I need to see it to believe it. Even the Fastasyland expansion has gone through a major change recently (see:Pixie Hollow).

Hah... your point is well taken... Jim Hill is less reliable than Disney press releases. I will give you that.

I am hoping this coaster happens! When I first saw the door scene in the movie, I thought that would be an adventurous ride to do. This is one of my favorite Pixar movies. If they are making a 2nd Monsters Inc movie, then I'm sure the ride will come shortly after. Plus, this ride is something my boys will like, unlike Fantasyland expansion. I don't expect it to start til after all the Fantasyland stuff is done though. I just hope nothing happens betw now & then that causes them to scrap it.

an "inverted" coaster is where you sit in the ski-lift type chairs and the coaster's wheels are above your head on the rails....the million batmans, montu, alpengeist, raptor, etc, etc, etc being of this type
they are awesome...though obviously one at mgm would be a baby version of such a design that would take out the loops, rolls, and other elements that are possible on these

a "flying" coaster is where you are in a full harness and hang parallel to the track above you...as in manta, some of the superman type coasters, etc
though more exciting in some ways...the flying type coasters put all the weight of the riders...and much of the G forces...on the chests and knees of the riders...making them not too comfortable. that would be incompatible with disney - by and large

the door vault idea floated for about 6 years around "credible" webrumors such as this one would be almost identical to an inverted coaster...as the sequence in monsters inc. reminds me of attaching a camera to a rollercoaster train to give an animator inspiration - much as was done for the Tarzan vine surfing scenes.

But, wouldn't it be kinda cool if they DID build it 100% in secret, and then one day just put up a sign and said..."Hey look, we got a new roller coaster!" Never happen though.

then how would they use it to sell 6 years worth of vacation packages? as in 3 years of "coming soon" followed by 3 years of "new at Disney's whatever it's gonna be called then Studios!!"

I don't understand what you're saying:headache: why would anything be done spontaneously when it could instead be used to bring customers that will - in turn - move volumes of merchandise from the shelves of cloned giftshops?

Que? Was ist das? i'm not computing...:wizard:

This brings up the real point: even disney has gotten into the rumor pushing game to sell product.

there are all these "we have a lot of new things in development" type leaks that seem to come straight from Anaheim...and about 1 in 10 ever even gets beyond that nibble stage.

I think they understand us alot better than we give them credit for: just leak stuff out to make it look legit and they will come more...and since everything is on a 6 year construction schedule - the chances are nobody will stop and say "hey...where's the Canadian log flume they said they were gonna build?!"

i think it is factored in now...and the construction timelines are blown up to allow for them to shift and eliminate at will. and there's a sucker born every 4.2 seconds

it would not take years to install a rollercoaster system - even with disney special effects - if it were built by a third party vendor using already proven and developed technology. it might take more than 4 months of six flags-o-construction....but not half a decade.

but wait...they have to "find the money"
I can solve this one: start your search in my bank account...that should get the ball rolling.

I think there may be an element of truth to this. Any type of industry that has rabid fanboys circulating rumors likes to be able to have a few mouthpieces on speed dial. In baseball circles, Peter Gammons has often been labeled as a mouthpiece. Many of said that Jim Hill and Al Lutz acts as this type of mouthpiece. However, I have reason to believe that's not the case here.

There are many people that believe that Disney leaked the Fantasyland expansion plans last summer, but I personally don't think that's the case. However, something like that wouldn't surprise me at all. If you can get a rabid fanbase excited about something, they can take care of some of your marketing. I just don't think Fantasyland Forest was that type of project.

Not to go to far off-topic, but there is NO WAY that the leaked blueprints were not done intentionally. It's one thing if it had been a description...but that document was something that no employee would be allowed to have a copy of to take out of WDI and ever allow to leak. There are too many processes they can do...individually modeling each copy, un-copyable paper...just simply not possible. That was an intentional leak if there ever was one.

sorry one more Jim Hill post...!

has anyone considered that he and the bus driver might be the same guy?! Has anyone seen Jim Hill and all the disney bus drivers in a room at the same time? no?

;)

From the most recent Dis Newsletter:

"On the heels of rumors regarding possible Haunted Mansion and prince/princess themed rooms coming to Walt Disney World, an article in the Orlando Business Journal has added more rumors to the mill. According to the article, big changes may be on the way at both Disney World and Universal Studios in the next few years.

The report suggests Epcot's World Showcase may soon welcome a 12th country to its collection. Since this news still classifies as a rumor, there is no official word on what the new country would be, but one "Walt Disney World insider" suggests Spain is the current front runner.

Epcot's neighbor, Disney's Hollywood Studios has allegedly also received the "greenlight" to construct the long-discussed Monsters Inc. roller coaster. It has long been believed that the space vacated by the extinct "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Play It" attraction would be the location of this new coaster."

May still be rumors and nothing new really, but exciting to think about nonetheless!
