Monster's Inc. Roller Coaster

Jim Hill is an entertaining writer, and I enjoy his columns.

I've been reading Jim's columns long enough to know they're a combination of facts, rumors, leaks from genuine insiders, things that insiders with an agenda feed to Jim, things that Jim hears from dubious sources, educated guesses, and wild extrapolations based on limited information -- but that Jim tends not to explain what's real, what's essentially just made up, and what's somewhere in-between.

In the article referenced above, Jim wrote: "Which is why Walt Disney Imagineering has decided to add a new attraction to Pixar Place. Something that will come on line by the Fall of 2011. Just in time for Disney World's 40th anniversary."

That makes it sound like it's official, and that all that's missing is an official announcement and some publicity art.

However, you have to understand that even if designers at WDI have designed such an attraction, and even if executives at WDI have "decided" it should be added, WDI ultimately does not determine what does and doesn't get funded.

That sounds amazing! It also sounds like alot of money though... im not sure if they'll do it. I would love them too though, ever since the movie came out I thought that would be an amazing ride. I'd love to ride it on WDW's 40th bday :thumbsup2 Let's hope they make the ride.

That would be awesome! DH and I have said everytime we see Monsters, Inc. and that scene that it would make an awesome coaster!

Although I would welcome this coaster, I think that DHS would be a little crowded with thrill rides for a park as small as the Studios. RnR Coaster, Tower of Terror, and this new coaster.

On a rumor = reality scale of 1 to 10 I would put this one about a 7...I genuininely think that Disney parks would like to get one more ride into DHS...they have the space available, the "Pixar Place" section which right now essentially has one thing (TSMM) will need to be expanded...this combined with the rumor of changing the HISTK playground into a "Bugs Life" playground...all make sense...why call the area "Pixar Place" if you aren't intending to expand the offerings there.

I also consider that WDW next big "new stuff" push will probably be for the 40th anniversary coming up in 2011. By that point, it will have been 4 years since ANY big new attractions will have opened (I don't count AIE - sorry DHS), I suspect this is when we will finally see those new rumored Fantasyland rides come in, and probably something new in AK and Epcot, too. It will also be about the time the economy starts turning around (hopefully).

So, of all the crazy rumors that get tossed around, this one has a shred of credibility to it.

One thing is for certain, at some point Disney will add additional Pixar attractions to DHS

Just wondering if anybody knows what is going in just down the road from TSM (on the same side, going towards Streets of America etc). It certainly doesn't look like an entrance to a roller coaster, maybe a restaurant. Right now it just looks like an indescript building with a sign saying "under refurbishment for..."

The rumored Monsters, Inc. attraction won't really be a thrill ride, per se. Nothing on the level of RnR or ToT. It'll more be a much more family-friendly attraction than either of those. :)

Absolutely right. There's plenty of room behind the buildings on Pixar Place for expansion. In fact, Disney recently arranged things to make even more space available back there before 2011. ;)

The MI coaster seems to be making the rumor rounds again. DW read a site a couple days ago that seemed to indicate it was a done deal.

Perhaps ANY additional E-ticket will at least take some of the heat off TSM...

The Studios at Paris which are smaller than the WDW one has a ToT, RnRC and Crush's Coster (which is a thrill ride spinning coaster in the dark) and it does not seem crowded at all with thrill rides. The addition of Crush's coaster there worked out really well.

I think this ride would be awsome. I would be a little worried if it was next to TSM just because of how crowded it already gets in front of TSM.

true, but without question they need to add pixar attraction to Pixar Place. I would only assume at some point the Backlot Tour will go to make room for more Pixar stuff

While it might be somewhat crowded, they really need another ride & this one would be fantastic!

That is the entrance to the Backlot Tour. It's currently undergoing a refurb.
