Just wondering if people think the Monster's Inc Laugh floor is appropriate for a child with a low cognitive level. He's interested in everything but his understanding is limitted-he likely understands more than we think he does. I'm just wondering if it should be made one of our priority attractions or if it should be a "just in case we have time"attraction. I'm working on his guide book which is why I'm thinking of it over 2 mos before we go. What are the line ups like? I see it's not a fast pass attraction. There are so many attractions he'll like at MK and we're there on a day it closes early so we have to prioritize which attractions he'll enjoy the most. Thanks,

I have only been once, but from what I remember it would be a time filler. It is a person telling jokes. There really is no music or animation to keep some children with differing abilities interested. Like I said I have only been once but this is what I remember. HTH:thumbsup2

Has he ever seen the Monsters, Inc movie?
Even if he doesn't understand the movie, having seen the characters before will help him to like it more.

Does he enjoy being in places where other people are laughing and making loud happy noises?
It is a very cute and funny show and you will hear a lot of laughter. I have never seen any kids getting upset or afraid in it and even the babies seemed to like it.

The theater is very cute with a lot of bright colors.

We have been to the Laugh Floor quite a few times and have never needed Fastpass. The theater holds a lot of people.
If he has a wheelchair or is using a stroller as a wheelchair, he will be waiting in a bit quieter part of the queue.
This is a picture of the entrance into the building. People with wheelchairs, ECVs or special needs with a Guest Assistance Card enter thru the door on the far right.

You do need to be aware that the attraction is pretty long and you will be waiting in 2 separate rooms during your wait. Even if you do not wait in the line, you will be waiting thru at least one show inside the building before you go in for your show. I don't know how long the show is, but think it's around 10 minutes or so.

The wheelchair/special needs area if roped off from the time you enter the building and the roped off area is maintained thru the whole wait until you enter the theater.
Here is the first waiting room, which has many banners from the ceiling:

This is the entry to the next waiting room, which actually has a little preshow that intoduces the characters and tells the story of Monster's Inc.
The video screens are above your head and angled down.

This is another view of the same room when we were the first in:

This is a picture of the seating. Sorry it's kind of blurry, but as I was taking the picture, a CM scared me half to death, saying "no Pictures."

My son knew the characters from the movie, so we decided to visit the attaction. It was cute but he couldn't follow the jokes etc.

I was also worried someone would come up with a microphone and ask him questions. :scared1: Thank goodness no one did!

How old is your son (both cognitive and actual)? My son has Down Syndrome and was 14 when we visited last. His cognitive age really varies depending on the topic. He doesn't "get" jokes that are much above what you might expect a typical 7 or 8 year old to get, he still thinks all the characters are real, loves the "kiddie" rides, etc.

Anyway, he LOVED this attraction - I think we saw it 4 times on one day alone. The only issue was that he wanted to get picked - they put the camera on a few folks in the audience and poke fun at them - usually one kid and several adults through out the show.

Thanks for the input. He is 16 chronologically and about 1 1/2-2 years cognitively-may be a bit higher in some areas and lower in others. He's just started using words and they're showing a fairly high understanding-ie; by saying move he means he wants you to go to his bedroom, pick up a toy, bring it to his chair and put his arm on it so his hand is raised higher so he can play more easily with his beads. He loves the Monsters Inc movie and does love being around people who are laughing and happy. I think we may put this on our ïf we have time list.

Since he knows the characters then I'd think he'd love this attraction even if he didn't understand the "jokes". It's also a nice cool place to be when it's hot outside and we've never had an excessive wait time. Since you have limited time to tour it probably won't take too much time out of your day to visit this attraction.---Kathy

I'm sure a lot of the toddlers I have seen in it don't understand the jokes, but they are responding to the Monsters who are up on the screen (it's similar to a movie, but they look 3 dimensional somehow without using 3D glasses). I think a lot of the kids who are too little to understand are also responding to the positive energy that it in the room. (i.e. they don't know why, but other people are laughing, so they laugh too).
