Hey!
We are heading down in December and staying at CR. I heard somewhere the monorail is shut down most of the day during the week. Is this true??? If so there is no way I'm paying deluxe prices!

The monorail has been running on modified schedules.

From CR it's generally easier to walk to MK than monorail, and quicker too. The resort monorail has mostly been running, regardless. The Epcot early monorail is sometimes replaced by bus.

Even when the monorail is running I find it quicker to get to Epcot from MK on the bus. One of the reasons we rarely stay at the MK resorts is I don't like the monorail, having said that I plan on doing at least 2 days at one (haven't decided which one) in Sept. just because I haven't in a while. I don't stay at them because of the monorail but in spite of it. I use the boats most of the time to MK and if I'm going to Epcot I boat to MK and bus to Epcot.

The resort monorail line will run throughout the day.

The express monorail line (that goes from TTC to MK and back with no other stops in between) is the one with the modified schedule. On rare occasions, the resort monorail line might break down for awhile...but no way to predict that.

Keep in mind when planning MK monorail resorts, how many stops the resort monorail line will make (5)...

MK--to--CR--to--TTC--to--Poly--to--GF--to--MK...and around all over again...

And as previously mentioned, when going to EPCOT, you have to get off at TTC...walk down the ramp, around, and back up the other ramp to wait for the EPCOT monorail. You might get lucky and be able to take the easy pass-through from one monorail line to the other...but I haven't had that luck in several years worth of trips. We typically have to walk down and around and back up on the other side.

We like the monorail and enjoy having it as an option when staying at MK resorts. We have just learned when it's best to use it and when it's best to boat or walk (or buses if they're an option).

For example, we rarely use the monorail to get to or from MK and CR. We can certainly walk to MK from CR faster than it takes us to make the entire resort monorail loop. And there are just so many times that I can hear, "Please stand clear of the doors. Por favor, mantengase alejado de las puertas..." before I'm chanting it over and over in my head all day (and all night in my dreams)...:scared: We also typically just walk back to CR from MK. It's a pretty good little jaunt just to get over to the monorail platforms from the MK exits. By the time you walk to the exit and then over to the monorail ramps, and then UP the monorail ramps, and then stand in line to catch the monorail...we'd be back AT the resort.

Another example: When staying at GF, we like to take the monorail to MK since it's the first stop...but prefer taking the boat back to GF from MK :sail: (unfortunately, walking isn't an option between those two places...yet...or probably ever).

This might be a fun option....:moped:

...or maybe :car: (I hear that Uber prices are pretty cheap ;))

Epcot by bus???? Wish I knew this before I paid monorail resort prices!

It is way faster to have the bus to EPcot than to take the monorail. If you schedule a PPO meal and have the opportunity to take a bus, take it and be glad! I think the ride was 5 min or so.

I am confused. We are not staying at at a MK resort but the monorail is one of my sons favorite "rides" :confused3. On our Epcot day we have a dinner reservation at the Wave. So is the monorail from Epcot not running during the day? We understand that a bus might be faster, but we are prepared to wait on the monorail.

It depends on the day you're going and time. Highly likely the Epcot to MK monorail will be running.

The monorail schedule when their down is usually early in the morning and late at night

I think a lot of people in this thread are missing the point of the post. For some, having access to the Monorail, and riding it into the parks from your resort is an exciting part of their trip. I know people love to share their tips on what's faster, but I think this is about the fun of it.

My family always tries to get a ride on the Monorail in, as it's become a tradition for our trips, so I can see why someone would not want to pay the higher price if they can't ride it daily.

I'm one of those people that has the monorail add to the excitement of the trip. I first rode the monorail in 1977 or 1978 (I don't recall which year it was) and from there I was fascinated with it. So, even though it's slower sometimes, I love to ride it. At this point, I've been on it so many times, that if I need to take the ferry, it's not a big deal and I enjoy that too, but I still love the monorail. We don't stay at the resorts, so we don't have that worry. Just getting into MK from TTC.

I don't remember where I saw it, but the monorail has scheduled times during the week where it's taken offline for maintenance. It's something like Mon-Thur from noon to 4pm. I don't think that's the exact schedule, but I recall it's weekdays during mid-afternoon. That's only the Express monorail. The resort monorail continues to run, as does the MK to Epcot one. I don't recall seeing them down, unless something was actually wrong with them.
