Monorail?

Do you need park entrance to ride the monorail? Can we get on the monorail in DTD and ride it roundtrip if we do not plan on entering the parks that day?

I didn't know this and never experienced it, but looked it up and apparently they do this when it is crowded but should announce before you get on.

I believe on busier days they will make everyone get off at the stops.

We've always been able to ride the whole loop from Disneyland and back. We've never been required to disembark at DTD, but they do sometimes make everyone disembark at the DL station. In regards to the OP's question, they scan park tickets and check bags at the entrance to the DTD station since the next stop takes guests inside of DL.
