Can we access the monorail without park tickets? We are staying at art of animation for 1 night and thinking of doing a character meal at the Polynesian and would like to take a bus from resort to either Epcot or mk and ride monorail

Yes, because the monorail doesn't go into the parks. Well, the monorail for the resorts doesn't; I'm not sure about the one for Epcot.

You don't need park tickets to ride either monorail. The Epcot monorail actually makes a swing through the park on the way from the TTC, but the monorail station is outside the park gates.

Just so you know, the Epcot monorail does not go directly to Poly. If you board at Epcot, you'll need to get off at TTC, and either transfer to the resort monorail, or walk about 10 minutes to the Poly.

On our "down" days (i.e., non-park days) we sometimes ride Disney transportation, just for fun (we've stayed onsite the past few trips.. DD misses the monorail!). Last trip, we took the bus from POP to Epcot, then the monorail to the TTC and on to MK. At MK, we swapped to a boat to Wilderness Lodge and poked around there for awhile; we'd never been there! We then took the boat back to the MK and hopped on the ferry to the TTC, then monorail to Epcot and bus back to POP. We HAD talked about taking a bus from MK to POFQ and then the boat from there to DTD, which would have been fun too!
