We are staying at the Paradise Pier and attending MHP tomorrow night. I just thought maybe it would be easier to take the monorail into the park at 4pm and avoid the main street crunch. Will they allow party goers to enter the park that way?

I think the last confirmed report of someone being able to use their MHP ticket to get into DL was back in 2011. I remember reading reports saying it wasn't available in 2012 or 2013. I didn't check this year, so I don't know if the status has changed.
The monorail is not reliable, and in most cases will take longer than just walking. But lately they've only been running 1 train, and it's been down frequently. When they were running 1 train a few days ago, a CM warned us that the next train coming in would fill at the platform, and then it would be 20 min to come back and we were far enough back he thought it would be 40 min. If you want to avoid Main St, I'd rather wait 10-15 at the train station than the monorail.
My DD and I did this on the 30th. It turned out to be not the smartest thing we did. First, you have to enter using your regular park ticket as they don't do the MHP tickets - activation and wristband thing. I went ahead thinking that getting our tickets activated inside the park and the Fantasy Theater area would be perfect. Wrong!!! Line was over the top way too long. I asked a CM and she indicated the fastest thing for us to do was to exit and re-enter at the main gate turnstiles.
So to answer your question - if you have the MHP party tickets only for that day, you have to enter through the main gate.
An additional thing to consider: if the weather is hot (like it was on 10/03), the monorail probably won't be running. We walked by the DtD station and saw CMs turning people away, saying that the monorail was down and they had no idea whether it would be running later. All party guests were directed to the front gates.
