monorail question

I've been to the parks several times, but don't have any experience with the monorail other than the short ride from ticketing to MK. We are staying at Bonnet Creek and so Epcot is right across the street basically. We will have park hopper passes and want to drive our car to the park. However, on days we go to the MK, I was wondering if it would be feasible to just park at Epcot instead and then ride the monorail to MK? Seems like it would save some driving time and make for a fun ride. Also, I think Epcot is supposed to be less crowded on the days we are going to MK, so we might score a better parking spot there.

Anything wrong with this idea? Anything I need to know? Is this going to shorten or lengthen my travel time?

You sure can do that. You will have to pay the parking fee, of course.

One thing to remember is that the Epcot monorail shuts down 1 hour after Epcot closes, so you would have to take a bus back to Epcot on nights when MK is open later.

The Epcot monorail opens at 8 a.m. I don't know whether that will get you to the MK in time for the 8:45 rope drop show. You will need to exit the train at the TTC, walk down the ramp, and join the queue for the MK monorail or ferryboat.

Keep in mind that the Epcot Monorail doesn't go to MK. It goes to the TTC, where you then have to transfer to the MK Express Monorail or to a ferry across the Seven Seas Lagoon.

If you're staying off-site at one of the resorts of Bonnet Creek, parking at Epcot to visit the MK won't save time or be more convenient. You're better off parking in the MK lot, so that the TTC is just walk or parking lot tram ride away.

If you're visiting both parks the same day, then parking only at Epcot can work well.

As others have mentioned, it's not going to save you any time, and will actually take you longer.

From Bonnett Creek to Epcot parking.... maybe 10 minutes. to MK parking? 15. The monorail trip between EPCOT and the TTC you are usually looking at around 30min because of wait time for the train and the travel time.

You would then still need to ride the monorail or ferry from the TTC to the MK.

We stayed at Bonnet Creek in '07- the drive to MK would take much less time than trying to get the monorail at EP. Enjoy- it's a beautiful resort!

I agree with everyone else because going from Bonnett Creek Resort to the Magic Kingdom it's best to drive yourself to the Magic Kingdom parking lot and get on the Express Monorail at the Transportation & Ticket Center.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I may ride the monorail if we hop between the two parks, but otherwise it sounds like I should just drive. I drove it last year, just thought there might be a better way...

It all depends on your perspective.

For example... On days when I'm planning on park hopping between the MK and EPCOT, I'll often park at the TTC in the morning and then just use the monorail between the 2 parks.

Or just go to Magic Kingdom in the normal fashion (via TTC since you are driving or using the hotel shuttle). Mid-day, come out and take a joyride on the Monorail when it is less crowded. Take it to Epcot; it'll swing right through Future World on the southbound trip before pulling into the station.
