HELLO TO ALL. I AM PLANING A CHARACTER DINNER FOR MY SONS BIRTHDAY. I RESERVED A 5PM TIME AT CHEFF MICKEYS. WE WILL BE IN MK THAT DAY WAS PLANING ON TAKING THE MONORAIL TO THE CONTEP RESORT HOW EARLY WOULD WE NEED TO LEAVE??????? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET THERE VIA THE MONORAIL? :confused3

The CR is the next stop after Mk so even if you get to the station just as the train is leaving and you have to wait it shouldn't take more than 15min. There is also a walkway from MK to the CR so if your not too tired that is also an option.

Well, the ride itself will be about 3 minutes. But you have to factor in getting from wherever you are in MK to the exit, and from the exit to the monorail station, and then waiting for the monorail to arrive, then leaving the monorail and walking to Chef Mickey's, then the instruction that you're supposed to arrive 15 minutes before your ADR time, etc.

I have a 5:00 p.m. ADR at Chef Mickey's too, and we, too, will likely be at MK just before that. I think I'll probably walk out of MK not later than 4:30 p.m.

Then again, I've never actually done this before, this is purely theoretical.

P.S. :welcome:

Just a bit of friendly advice about "Netiquette:" Typing in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS is considered on message boards to be SHOUTING. In addition, it's also more difficult to read for most people. :goodvibes

Also once you get to the Contemporary Chef Mickey's is on the same floor as the Monorail station, so from that point you don't have a far walk. Lastly give yourself plenty of time to leave the Magic Kingdom & get to Chef Mickey's.

Since it's his birthday make sure to ask if he can "pilot" the monorail on your way there or back. It's such fun for the little ones, they get a licence and everything. :)

Is this accurate?

I've never stepped foot in Chef Mickey's or Contemporary, but I will be doing so in November. Last May, I took my then-5-year-old son on a monorail ride, and I could have sworn that when we rode through Contemporary that when we looked out the left-side windows (facing forward) we saw Chef Mickey's BELOW us and to the left. I distinctly remember it being down a floor, like we were looking at it from above. Am I wrong here???

Yes, Eric, you're correct. When you sit in Chef Mickey's, the monorail swooshes through, over your head. If you arrive via the monorail, you have to take either an elevator or an escalator down one floor.
Now, as far as how to get there from MK. If you have a 5:00 seating, I would plan on leaving about 45 minutes to get there. When we do it we leave 30 minutes but I've done it mulitiple times and know exactly where to go. So...exit MK, to get to the monorail, head to the right, up the ramp. Wait in line for the next monorail. Board it, ride for about 4 minutes, hop off at CR, go down a floor, head to the right, and there you are..Chef Mickey's.
Or, you can walk via the pathway...leave MK, head to the left, follow the path underneath the monorail line, along the far left side...cross at the lights, and you're there. About an 8 minute walk. Take the escalator up 2 levels (2 sets of escalators) and there you are. Or take the elevators.

If you want your birthday boy to sit in the front of the monorail on the trip to CR, get there even sooner. There will be others already waiting for this chance, so you will have to wait in line.
