Monorail or Main Gate for Early Entry into Disneyland?

We are staying at Disneyland Hotel and walking through Downtown Disney. If we are going to ride Space Mountain first thing for early entry, is it better to take the Monorail to Tomorrowland or enter through the main gate?

I would take the monorial. It is not that far of a walk from the Disney Hotel to the monorail and it will drop you off not far from Space Mountain. It will take you a lot longer to walk to the front gate and then through Main Street to Tomorrowland. I would arrive at the monorail about 15 minutes before opening to avoid a long line at the monorail.

We went on a Monday around 9am(ee was at 9am, park opened at 10 to regular public) and headed towards the esplanade ( we were stayinga t GCH so it was an equal siatnce to monorail and esplanade). Big mistake, security line extended all the way to the tram drop off. The line at the turnstiles were worse. We turned around and went to the monorail. It took us about 4 minutes in line to get our tickets scanned and another 5 minutes to board the monorail. Get there earlier than the opening time to avoid long lines. With the monorail only doing one way though, I'm not sure if it takes any longer than normal though.
