We are splitting our stay between the Contemporary and the Poly. What do you think about us moving our bags (on rollers) via the monrail? Is it doable? I've heard the resorts will handle moving our luggage - but I would prefer doing it.:confused3

:thumbsup2 or :sad2: ???

I would definitely do that! :thumbsup2 It will be super easy to move everything via the monorail. That way your bags stay with you. When you use luggage transfer it usually takes several hours before you see your bags again. ;)

Unless you're just really nervous about someone else touching your bags or something, why would you bother when Bell Services will do it for you? You're going to have to give up your bags at the new location anyway, most likely, because you're room won't be ready when you get there with your bags. You'll have to store them with Bell Services anyway, unless you plan on sitting in the lobby with them until your room is ready.

Just my opinion -- sound like a pain -- Bell Services really can do a fine job with this.

I don't know the OPs reason, but I will tell you why I won't do this again.

They LOST my luggage in-between CSR and SSR! I went all day before they magically showed up and everyone including management was very difficult to deal with. It was unseasonably cold that day and we froze! There was a lot of added stress and frustration that could have been eliminated if we could have dealt with our luggage ourselves.

Its a totally different matter to leave your luggage with bell services upon arrival and before departure as its not going very far (if anywhere).

Even if they don't lose your luggage they don't promise you will have it back right away, I want to say they ask for a 4 hour period to do the move. If you have plans where you might want it in that time frame, you should just move it yourself!

OK - the losing thing I can see, but that never happened to me.

But my other point is still valid - what are you going to do with your luggage in that time frame? You either have to give it to Bell Services at your new resort (thereby still not accessible by you) or sit around with it until your room is ready. Of course, you could get lucky and your room is ready, so then those things don't apply (we could have had our room at 7:30 AM on our last split-stay trip, so we could have taken our own luggage). Not trying to pick a fight, just saying that you still have to do something with the luggage after you get to the new place.

It is true that I was probably one of the few that had the unfortunate experience of losing luggage. I know some people who wont check luggage with the airline because of this fear and I think thats crazy. So looking at myself I see that I'm a bit hypocritical!

You are probably going to be fine with Bell Services, I just know my experience was so bad I would kick myself for letting it happen again.

Actually you still have pretty much complete access to your luggage while its with Bell Services. You can ask them to bring it to you to get thing out, etc, at anytime.

NOTE: on the DIS transportation board I found that the luggage is prohibited on Disney buses. I'm afraid, the same rules can be applied to Monorail!

We've done split stays, and my view is that I don't want to waste a WDW day doing the move. I much prefer to have bell services pick up our luggage early in the morning on moving day, then we go off to a park or other activity as planned. Then at the end of the day, we go to resort #2, check in and have the luggage delivered. Always worked fine for us and we didn't lose a park day to do it.

well all the bus drivers must not know this because in May I was on a bus to DTD and 3 people have luggage with them and the bus driver said nothing.

I dont see why that would be a problem thats a really good idea you should do it :thumbsup2

That is odd that the bus driver allowed luggage on a WDW bus (not ME) because the WDW bus driver could be fined or the buses shut down. The resort/park bues are not licenced to carry luggage.

Personally, I wouldn't use the monorail. They are usually crowded and I wouldn't want the hassle of hauling my luggage with me. I think if I was worried about bell services losing my luggage, I would take a cab.

I think it depends on whether you will be able to take all your bags in one trip... If you can then fine, it wouldn't be much of a hassle... if you would need mutiple trips to move it all then would you really want to ride the monorail that much? I mean getting from CR to Poly is easy but the trip back to CR would be a pain.

I have a question. We have thought about doing a split stay also between Poly and CR. Is there any difference in price? Like do they make you put down 2 deposits? Or just pay the cost of the room and one dep? Any help on this would be great.
Thanks!

There is no such thing as a "license" to carry luggage. That is absurd! I have seen people with luggage of all kinds during my stay, from people clearly moving in to a hotel from...wherever they were coming from, to people with rolly bags going to the water parks, etc. I have never seen how it would be a problem of any sort. May be a pain when the buses are very full and the luggage is choking the aisle a bit--for this reason alone I would move during a non-peak time or simply have someone else move it for me. I would think if it were a peak time, the bus drivers may say something to try and discourage people with a load of luggage from taking up a bunch of space, but beyond that I couldn't see any issue with it.

Why don't you call the hotel and ask their opinion? Get an official word instead of all of us speculating!

We have been told, by Disney bus drivers, that luggage is not 'supposed' to be allowed on the buses. I can only assume that is true for the monorail and the boats.
If it were me, rather than having to juggle those bags on the monorail (if you're allowed on with the bags) I would just get a cab. One person could take the cab while everyone else could hop on the monorail and meet up at the CR.
As for Disney moving the luggage....never again for me. I've done it twice now. Once from BCV to POR and again from BWV to POP. Both times I handed my luggage off, at 8 am, with a very nice tip. I was told not to expect my bags at the next resort until the afternoon...mid afternoon is what the Bell Services guy at BCV told me. When I started asking about my luggage at POR, around 3:30-4, I was told it wasn't there! POR luggage people finally called BC Bell Services. Seems BC was too busy that day to move the luggage! About 90 mins later, I again asked...nope, nothing yet. Finally, the POR luggage folks told me they would just bring the bags to my room, I didn't need to wait around for them as usual (they do like a tip you see!!). They were incredibly nice about it.
POP wasn't too concerned about the baggage delivery. They told me to just head out and the bags would be in my room later on. Well, this was at 4ish. I had checked in hours before. So, off I went and when I returned, my bags were in fact, in the room. It was about 9:00 by then.

Nope, I'll move my own bags if doing a split stay again. It takes way too long to get the bags, and Bell Services people just don't see what's wrong with that.

I understand that the value resorts have a different pay rate, service and settup for bell services. That's why we don't have to be in the room or tip at the values. I personally like it better. Our last trip we spent `10 nights at OKW, than had to tip bell services to pick up our luggage, and tip when it was delivered to the room at the Poly. After 4 nights at the Poly we tipped again when bell services picked up our luggage and took it to ASMo. At ASMo, it was delivered straight to our room. No waiting or hassles with tips.
