Monorail hours cut

I saw this the other day. I understand the reasoning behind it, but paying a premium to stay at one of the monorail resorts does lose some of its appeal IMO.

Two of the biggest perks of staying on the monorail route are (1) Using the monorail  and (2) The onsite privilege of EMH.

It is the second announcement to impact evening EMH at MK, the first, just a few days before this one, being that characters will no longer be available for meet & greet during evening EMH :sad2:

meanwhile, they continue to raise ticket prices.

Indeed. And of course people like me will continue to comment in the increasing prices, and continue to pay them, not ceasing to become very defensive when anyone dares suggest that I could use the money for ridiculous, non essential items like food, Council Tax, getting the oven repaired ..... ;)

What is somewhat interesting is that these changes don't affect the offsite guests (okay, monorail to the TTC does to a point, but offsite guests are not entitled to make full use of EMH), but rather those paying Disney to stay onsite

Oh i didnt know about the meet and greets, when does that start?

July. But honestly I don't think it will affect you because your girls are so little. It only affects the evening EMH apparently, which tend to be quite late at MK so I don't anticipate it will affect you too much, if at all, this trip. It is a shame that it won't be an option unless they reinstate it later on in the future though. I have fond memories of DD and I with all the characters to ourselves at 3 am in the Magic Kingdom. While I am glad we had our opportunity while it was there, I think everyone should have the chance to experience that with their kids as they get old enough for a late night

if true this is beyond horrible.

i can't believe this. Cut the number of trips fine, shutting it all the way down it moronic. i had a wait list a BLT, if true i am cancelling that.

It will ONLY affect you if you do evening EMH. The monorail service will run as normal for the rest of the day. It just means if you take your time (more than an hour) to get out of the park after it closes, you will have to take a bus to BLT.

You all are simplifying this.

This affects tons of people making dining connections around the lagoon and epcot.

I can understand the reasons, maintenance is very important, but to give hardly any notice is not fair to those who booked monorail resorts for that very reason.

Sadly, I think the reason is more to do with not wanting to pay premium rates/have enough staff to do the maintenance during the short night time window. It also lines up with the removal of characters from meet & greet, and various other cutbacks Disney have made at WDW over recent years (eg maintenance budgets/mousekeeping etc).

Spot on I reckon.

Here's a radical solution - buy more trains! Surely they only need one or two 'off line' trains being overhauled each night?

And i thought i was the only one

I read this a few days ago on the resort board, another one of Disney ways to p*** people off! yet we still come back for more. :confused3

The majority of people this is affecting will be guests staying at the monorail resorts, EMH most guests will be on buses or back on the hotel monorail.

For our next trip we're staying at the GF and will eat at most places on the monorail link, this is going to be a problem if it's not running.
I'm guessing they have got other measures in place, maybe they will run the boats between GF/Poly/CR?

I am waiting to see how this all plays out and how much effect it has but I am am very unhappy about this and will complain to Disney (and in particular DVC as part of my dues covers transportation inc the monorail) if does cause problems.

Now I can understand the need over the summer with the long park hours it leaves little time for maintenance however moving in to the fall with shorter hours I see no need for the extra maintenance time.

They will run additional boats and buses. This should not affect any of your dining on the monorail route as restaurants are not usually open that late. The only times it is going to be a problem is if you want to use the monorail back from a late (say 9 pm) ADR and MK closes at 8 pm.

The resort monorail used to regularly run till 11pm even when MK closed at say 8pm - it made dining and staying on the monorail easy. Now that would be closed at 9pm and if you had a ADR at CG you would have to go all the way to DTD and then come back which makes no sense!

I have never stayed onsite - so as a result would not claim to know much about the monorail or monorail resorts, but am I missing something obvious here??
Why, when leaving MK, would you have to get a bus to DTD to get to an ADR in CG :confused3
Surely once you leave MK there are buses that go to all the resorts without first having to take a detour to DTD - or is it not that simple?
