Monorail Drink-A-Thon

Hellllloooooo my fellow (virtual) drinking buddies. :goodvibes Long time no see! I've been seriously missing the disboards! I am in my final 7 months of graduate school so life has been crazy lately. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel though. :)

I hope to be back on here on an at least semi-regular basis to catch up with ya'll. Plus DH and I are going over in June for our anniversary so it's time to start plotting our next tour de drinks. Hehe!

I hope everything is well with everyone!! A very belated Happy New Year!

Welcome back Meg! WOW, I wanna be at THAT party...when you finally graduate! 7 months will be gone in no time!

Hi Meg! I hope those 7 months just zoom by for you.

Hey guys! I should have joined this thread a lot earlier since I, uh.. quite enjoy my drinks at Disney. :teeth: I don't think I go to Epcot without stopping for a wine or a beer.

Anyway, I'm usually the one giving this advice (evidenced by my sig :) ), but I'm kinda stuck on what to do for dinner on Saturday. FH will be between business trips and has class all day, but we're going to sneak in a park evening (probably Epcot) and have no idea where to go. We've done most of the "big" places and all of the World Showcase. We're open to everything, CS, bars, sitdowns, park, resort, whatever - probably not any place that doesn't take DDE and not V+A - but we're going in three weeks anyway! :Pinkbounc

Oh, and I'm asking here because of the like-minded-ness.

Big River Grill, we haven't done and sounds interesting. Anyway, any thoughts? We're apprehensive about trying the bars again for dinner since it was terrible at the Tambu Lounge with the new menu :(

I think of you and this every time I go to PI :teeth: I tend to be more of a wine/beer person in restaurants since I'm not terribly familiar with a lot of cocktails unless there's a pretty list in front of me. Do you have any suggestions for things that can be doubled?

brivers222, my standard "drinking around the world" goes like this:

Canada (Le Cellier) for lunch, wine/cocktail/beer, whatever mood I'm in
UK: Strongbow, Guinness, or Bumblebee (Long Islands are terrific here, though)
France: red wine, champagne, or beer
Morocco: Tangierine Cocktail - best deal for your dollar at Disney, drinkwise. They usually put about 4 shots worth in, and it's $6 (shhhhhh)
Japan: Samurai at the lounge - plum wine, vodka, lime juice
US: haven't done this since I started drinking beer, but I suppose a Sam Adams
Italy: red wine or limoncello
Germany: wheat beer or wine
China: not much of a choice here, usually go with Tsingtao because the plum wine is syrupy
Norway: Viking Coffee over ice
Mexico: skip! Bad beer and worse margaritas. Have a second drink somewhere else.

I choose what I'm in the mood for at the time. I don't have an issue mixing wine/beer/liquor, though, and I know that some do.

I'm going to Raglan Road and the Adventurers Club... they're near each other...

Hi Forever42! Yes, you should have joined this thread a long time ago, but we are glad you are here now! It was so great meeting you and FH (future husband?) at the PftS last Oct! DH and I are planning an identical trip to our Oct trip..., Oct 29-Nov5 this time. You know, i thought of YOU just two weeks ago...one of my PftS glasses broke! I treasure those glasses, and it was on the same day my wallet was stolen and my credit cards used, so I was feeling awfully low (hence the using of the wine glass.....drowning my sorrows.) Really pizzed me off...I remember you said the Reidel ones they gave a few years ago broke easily...well, this one did, too! :sad2:

Have you ever eaten at the Tangerine Cafe in Morrocco? I love Marrakesh, but I keep meaning to try TC.

As far as doubles go, I love vodka and club soda. With a lime. I also like Capt Morgan and club soda with lime. I always ask for it "on the rocks, with a splash of soda" cuz, well, what can I say, I like to taste the booze in there! I wonder if you ordered a frou frou drink (say, a pina colada or dacquari) and asked for a double (meaning a double shot of alcohol, not a doubling of the actual drink) if the same pricing would apply. Maybe you can try it and report back??? :thumbsup2

Honestly, I have not gone to BRG cuz I have heard negative things. And I am pretty sure you cannot use DDE there. I think if I went there, I would stick to something like a burger. I do believe ahhhhh likes the beer samplers there. I think there are pictures somewhere on this thread of he and his fiance drinking them.

Had a great weekend at WDW this past weekend. Will post a link to my trip report when ready. Drank only rum & diets, but anyway...

Had the best burger at WDW I've ever had at Big River Grill on Monday. It was amazing!! I went at around 1pm and had no wait, it was pretty slow, so maybe that had something to do with it. They do have the beer sampler, though I, once again stuck with rum & diet. Also had a side caesar salad, which was a good but not the best I've had at WDW. When I was there in October, I was was on the Dining Plan and had the chocolate cake which was just great!!

Cheers!

Forever42, I ate at BRG back in November, and I thought it was very good. I had what was called something like "Cherry Crusted Chicken".

WLL - DH and I have eaten at the Tangerine Cafe, we thought it was very good, some of the best counter service food in Epcot.

I was thinking Raglan Road since we still have one of those Clear Channel GCs left.. hmm.

WLL, I'm sorry to hear that about your glass :( I haven't broken mine yet, but maybe that's because my pint glasses have been getting a better workout. :teeth: I'm glad you're coming back during the FWF! Maybe we'll get to run into each other again. :)

And the doubles thing, that's my aunt's favorite, a vodka and soda with a lime, I'm not a big fan :P I've tried an LIT doubled but they won't ;) I tend to stay away from things on the rocks because I feel like.. hey.. I have this at home, why don't I just go home and pour myself some? I'll play around with it, though. Also, WLL, if you like the taste of alcohol, have you had the Zombie at the Polynesian?

Tangierine Cafe is one of our favorite CSs at Disney as well - Sunshine Seasons is beating it lately, though. At Tangierine Cafe, the food is always fresh, hot, and healthy to boot! And definitely try the Tangierine Cocktail over at the pastry counter! I can't recommend it enough.

We haven't done BRG because of the reviews, either. I just got a job three weeks ago, though, so we're able to be just a little more free with money. :) The prices aren't TOO bad, though, even though they don't take DDE, and that beer cheese soup has always sounded interesting...

Woohoo Poohbear!!!!

Forever42-yeah, like Maine Jen said, I thing ahhhh said he loved the hambuger there (at BRG) so that is something to consider. Hmm, I feel like a dunce...what the heck is Sunshine Seasons?

Zombie at the Poly...hmmm, must check it out. I do not usually like to drink booze mixed with fruit juices, cuz I tend to get sick. I will only do it if I am having one drink, two maximum!

Yes, I am very bummed about my wine glass. my Dh made fun of me, cuz as I drank my wine, I would gaze lovingly at it. That was our first ever PftS and we just loved it. My DH was skeptical, and now he is SOLD on it.

Hi Aidensmon!

Ugh, forget that going out tonight, I just lost my job because they didn't have the budget for me. :(

WLL, ack, forget about the Zombie then :) lots of fruit juice there. And Sunshine Seasons is the new incarnation of the CS at the Land in Epcot. The selections are fantastic, and the quality and variety are mountains above what it used to be.

For anyone who might be interested, my weekend trip report is up on my website:

http://www.queenofthefreakinuniverse.com/2006_January.htm

Was pretty cool because on Sunday, I went to the Outer Rim to watch the NFL Playoffs and our fun server from October, Nicole, was my server again. Did just as great as October, so it wasn't a fluke. There was a point when there were a ton of "little boys" doing play by play of the game. She asked if they were all mine! LOL Uh, NO!!

Oh, and I bumped into Amy at the Adventurer's Club the two nights I went. Was pretty funny sitting there relaxing, when someone sits forward in their seat and I recognize someone sitting on the other side of the room. Quite a cowinky dink!

I'm thinking about talking up the kids clubs to my nephew so he'll ask to go to one some night in June so I can head. Does that make me a bad Auntie??? He already wants to do the Pirate Cruise, so I get two hours free, but that's at 9:30 in the morning!!

Cheers!

awww, Forever42, I am sooo sorry! I have no doubt you will land on your feet, in a better place than before. I truly mean that with all my heart. :thumbsup2

I look forward to trying SS, then. Sounds like something I will love!

MJ-How old is your nephew? My DD (she is 7 now) has been going to the kid's clubs for awhile, and loves every second of them. Going to a kid's club at least one night of our trip is actually, well, part of the WDW experience...for her AND for us! She asks to go every time. It is great!

He will be turning 10 on the first full day of our trip. Do they even take kids that old? Would love to be able to do it, but not sure how it would really fit into our schedule. Will have to mention it.

Cheers!

Just saw this thread, and knew I had to sign up! I'm definitley a Disney World drinker! I can't go to Epcot without a glass of wine or a margarita (or two). I also discovered the beauty of the hotel and restaurant lounges on my last trip. My favorite drink so far is the Maui Rita from the Tambu lounge, best maragrita I have ever had!

Thanks, I needed that :goodvibes

So - Dagny brought up that we need to save the first of October for another meet. Sounds good to me and I know it's wicked far away, but I'm just curious if anyone is planning on it and what weekend you're planning on? I know, I know, I just got back and I'm already planning ahead. Well, I'm not really planning and locking in dates, but just curious. With changes at work, I've decided to cut my trips to long weekends this year to fit more in. Which means I'm only going to be able to make it for one weekend in October.

Not looking for definites, curiosity is getting the better of me on a Sunday morning with no coffee.

Cheers!

Hello! I have a few questions for my adults only trip next November, and this looked like the place to get answers! (Keep in mind that DH and I are diehard beer drinkers, but I am willing to step out of the box this trip for a mixed drink or two... or three...)

Question #1- The Monorail Drinkathon- The Grand Floridian is a beautiful place and I enjoy going there to look at Christmas decorations, but it seems a little "proper"... how comfortable will we be waltzing in to throw back a few? Is there anything "unique" about the lounge that makes it a "must do"?

Question #2- We will not be eating at 50's Primetime, but were thinking about stepping in the lounge for refreshments. Can you do this? Is the lounge worth it just for drinks?

TIA for any opinions! This is a great thread!
