Monorail Drink-A-Thon

Hi Beth!! Welcome to the home of the lushes. :sunny:

Regarding the drink-a-thon - definitely hit up Mitzer's lounge at the GF. Their drinks, especially the raspberry martini, are yummy and it's a very relaxing cozy atmosphere. In fact, I might have some pictures from our drink-a-thon...if you scroll a few pages back you should be able to find them, it was Sept 2005.

I've never been to Prime Time for just drinks, but I don't see any reason that you couldn't stop in to just the lounge area. Heck, if you're at MGM and the mood strike for a drink, I say go get one. Hehe!

If you and your DH enjoy beer I *highly* recommend going to Big River Grill & Brewery at the Boardwalk. They have 6 or so different beers that they brew and they are all yummy. You can get the sampler and try them all and then pick your favorite. I know the restaurant has gotten some negative/so-so reviews, but DH and I personally love it. We've never had a bad meal (one time we had so-so service, but that was only one time out of the many times we've been and the so-so service was more that our waitress was inexperienced) and the beer is fabulous.

Let us know what other questions you have! When in November are you coming down?

Thanks for replying and the warm welcome MegMeg! We will be there from the Sat. after Thanksgiving until the next Sat. The first night we are staying at the Dolphin, so we can check out the Boardwalk and eat at Shula's (beer and big fat steaks...yum :thumbsup2 )... and then we are moving on to Pop or CSR. I am sooooo looking forward to this trip- I can't wait to check out the nightlife this time. I was having a hard time convincing DH that we could do this "adults only" and have a blast, and then I told him about the monorail drinkathon... the rest is history. ::yes::

Jen my dear, I am definitely there. Start saving your pennies because that is only a couple months after your cruise trip! Definitely want it to fall within the Food and Wine Festival, although I am pretty flexible so I will let others guide the dates...

Yeah!

My counter breaks 30 days tonight. Any early March lushes here?

What a great thread! It looks like there has been several mentions of a heavenly margarita at Mitzers and also Tambu Lounge ? DH and I aren't going until November, so I need to research very carefully to find the most worthy margarita in the world..
MegMeg I agree with you on the Big River Grill...great spot for good beer. love just relaxing and people/boat watching on the boardwalk.

weathergirl, I'm a HUGE margarita nut, and I've been trying margaritas around the parks and resorts to find the best. So far, the best has been the classico margarita at the Maya Grill at Coronado Springs. It's shaken and served martini style, and has a perfect balance of sweet, tart, and alcohol.

The ones at Mexico in Epcot, both the CS and the TS locations, have been the most dismal margaritas I've had in or out of Disney. :(

Hey all! In response to "any early March lushers" I'll be there Mar. 1-5 drinking my way merrily through the world showcase.

Forever42 thanks for the info. I think I will try that margarita at Maya Grill, since I do like them on the tart side and not super sweet.

Yeah!

Well - since I posted that I applied for a position in another dept. Would mean a step up, a raise, but *might* not be able to get time off first weekend of October. :( Will have to see how it goes, but will hopefully get some October time off. Even if it's just a long weekend.

Dagny - I canceled my cruise. Wanted to be able to do an October weekend and December weekend and didn't have enough vacation time to do those and the cruise. So, I canceled it and my deposit refund paid for a long weekend away when I NEEDED it two weeks ago. Don't have to worry about pennies, too much. I have my full-time job - and 3 'when I have time' jobs. If I get the promotion, I'll quit 1 of them and keep the 2 fun ones. Will take any good luck pixie dust people have laying around. Not sure I'll get it, but should hopefully hear about it by Friday.

Oh, and I had Nicole as my server at the Outer Rim on that trip. You can read about it here:

Cheers!

Dagny and Jennifer - DH and I definately want to do this again, 1st weekend in October will probably be best for us, as long as the Food and Wine Festival has started.

I really look forward to having fun with you all again! :cool1:

Hello! I have a few questions for my adults only trip next November, and this looked like the place to get answers! (Keep in mind that DH and I are diehard beer drinkers, but I am willing to step out of the box this trip for a mixed drink or two... or three...)

Question #1- The Monorail Drinkathon- The Grand Floridian is a beautiful place and I enjoy going there to look at Christmas decorations, but it seems a little "proper"... how comfortable will we be waltzing in to throw back a few? Is there anything "unique" about the lounge that makes it a "must do"?

Question #2- We will not be eating at 50's Primetime, but were thinking about stepping in the lounge for refreshments. Can you do this? Is the lounge worth it just for drinks?

TIA for any opinions! This is a great thread!

My hubby and I NEVER miss a stop (or three) at the Tune-In Lounge at 50's Prime Time Diner! On one trip, we made a goal of drinking enough to get a dozen of the glowing ice cubes - we had to make two trips on our last trip to get 12 cubes, but we did it!! We really enjoy the offerings, and like both bartenders quite a bit.

Jen, I hope it works out and you can get some time off and join us :) I am really flexible in terms of my dates, just want to go during the food and wine festival. Do you get Columbus Day off? That is in early October and could help you get that long weekend ;)

I now it is pretty far away, but hopefully we can get some of the old crew together!

Yeah baby!

Hey guys, we finally did go to Big River Grille for lunch on our (cheaper) "Valentine's Day" day out at Epcot last Saturday, and had a GREAT time! The view, food, and service were all terrific, but I was most impressed by the beers!

I had a seasonal stout, which was poured off a cask, and served at the *correct temperature* - how about that? I also tried the red ale, which was pleasantly hoppy and nothing like any other American type red ales that I've had.

I'm dying to go back again, I just wish they'd take DDE :teeth:

Btw, we never walked inside, just sat outside. Is there a bar inside, that we could just sit down and have a couple drinks without taking a table?

Yep - we went last September - I do recall their being a bar inside where you can order drinks and whatnot. :sunny:

I'd love to do it again also.

Ahhhhhh! Where have you been? OMG...do I see DISNEYLAND PARIS in your siggy! Your killin' me over here!

Where has Cristy been?

Forever42-Glad you enjoyed it. Sooo...was the food yummy? What did you have? I am not much of a beer drinker, but sounds like beer drinker heaven!

Ive been lurking the boards here and there...:)

Yes, you read right! Im going to Spain for spring break (13 days) and out of that, Melissa and I are going to Paris for 4 nights. We're staying at the Holiday Inn at Disneyland Paris because it has such a ridiculously good rate and its pretty easy to get to the center of town using their transportation services. So we're doing the parks for a day or two and the rest of the time will be spent in the city. :3dglasses

we cant wait!

Awesome, thanks so much! We saw several tables order the hummus appetizer, and it's HUGE - looks like plenty for the two of us.

The food was *definitely* yummy. All we had were the beer cheese soup and the honey dijon sandwich, since we were heading over to Epcot for the rest of the day. But sharing both filled us, the sandwich was enormous and juicy, and the cheese soup was more of a thick spicy jalepeno cheese soup - didn't taste any beer. Mike and I think it's just as good as Le Cellier, just different.

Mike just said we can head over again soon since we can just sit at a bar. :) I can't believe that I've heard so many bad things about this place, since we enjoyed it so much.

OK guys, I need your help.
I've started 2 different threads on this and I'm not getting a lot of responses, so I'm counting on my Fellow LOTW to help me out. Who has the best Long Island Ice Tea at WDW? It could be the parks, the resorts, the restaurants, anywhere. What do you think?? :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1
