Monorail confusion

So I have read that you can go from DTD to Tomorrowland inside DL. If we decide to get on the monorail in DTD how/when are our tickets checked once in the park?

Would it save us any time to ride the monorail either entering or exiting the park for the day? I guess I just don't really understand the advantage of riding it if there are any other than the views and to sit down for a minute!

They check your ticket when you board in DTD. You have to have a valid DL ticket in order to get on.

Am I correct that if you use the monorail to exit DL, you will get a handstamp, just as you would at the front gate?

Yes. As you exit the monorail platform in DTD, they will stamp your hand.

Some say that walking to the gate is faster, but sometimes it's nice. When staying at the DLH and having MM, it's nice to use the monorail since at that time its only open to hotel guests for MM access. On those days, it's much quicker than walking all the way down. It can be a bummer if you have little ones and have to collapse the stroller that may or may not already be jam packed full of stuff. To me, it's also nice to get in the mix versus the walk to the gates and then the walk down main street. I never stop in any shops during the AM, so skipping that when I want is a nice option.

I guess it depends on where you are going when you are leaving the park. When we stay at the DLH, it is a huge bonus for us, especially at night, to ride the monorail out of the park. It makes the walk back so much easier, especially since, for whatever reason, we always seem to leave the park after riding a ride in Tomorrowland.

Our first day during our stay we usually enter at the main gates, but afterwards, we try to catch the monorail.

If we aren't staying onsite, we may ride it to try and catch a movie or eat in DTD for an afternoon break, otherwise, it's simply a "ride" for us that we only usually do once during the trip.

We use it most everytime we are staying at DLH. Especially if you want to start your day in that area of the park. Saves a lot of walking and it's a pleasant ride. :)

Just to note, last week, there was a sign saying that the monorail would stop running one half hour before park closing. So if you like to stay until closing (or after), the monorail might not be an option.

Riding the monorail is more about tradition for us than actual transportation, but it comes in VERY handy at night right after the fireworks and parades, when Main Street is jammed tight. It takes about a third of the time to hop on the monorail and go over to DTD as it does to walk out, and it's a lot less crowded!

Thanks for the replies. I have a clear understanding now! It's really too bad they don't have it going over to California Adventure from say the back of DL...that would be great!

Is there a regular time interval between monorail departures? For example, if you just miss one monorail, is the wait for the next one 5 minutes, 10 minutes or something else? Also, how long is the ride from one station to the other?

This would be great for park hopping, especially if it went to the very back somewhere by the boardwalk. :thumbsup2

The monorail was originally designed as an attraction, being the first monorail in the country, and later the leg to the DH was added. So it has never been ideally situated as a mode of transportation like the system at WDW.

We tend to use it to ride from TL to DTD, we get off in DTD and walk next door to the pin store and then walk to RFC to eat. :)
I wish they had a stop in DCA too, that would be so neat.
