So we were all ready to book our trip to Disney,My wife & I celebrated our honeymoon in Disney in the month of Oct the week of Halloween the weather was perfect and the crowds were not bad at all now that my daughter is going to be 7 in August we are planning her first Disney trip the not so scary Halloween party was a blast but we wanted to go around Christmas time and see Disney all decked out in holiday decor.the first week of Dec was perfect avg crowds not too close too Christmas & nice cool weather the week was perfect we are going to stay in the little mermaid room perfect for a 7year old girl.We were so excited until this morning.

My wife works for a bus company as a matridee when the kids are off she is off so we had a feeling her getting off may be an issue and sure enough it was when she spoke to her union rep this morning it was a no go she would get written up if she took off they threw at her that she already gets 52 days off when the kids are out of school she had to work we were hoping this was not going to be what happened but in the back of our minds we were prepped that this may happen so our dream week of going to Disney took a devestaing hit.

What to do now well we had two choices go while the kids are out of school which left Christmas week(no way never)we do too much with family besides that's probably one of the busiest times to go then there was winter break in February the crowds would be wall to wall with people not really a really good option that left us with the summer with April right around the corner.

My Disney planner who helped my brother plan his trip to Disney that he just got back from is awesome she tells me if you don't mind the heat how about the second 1/2 of August I was not too keen on this but what choice did we have our daughter is so looking forward to Disney she's at the perfect age but it's going to be soooo hot!!!! I really did not want to go in 90 degree weather with humidity off the chart with a daily drenching but what choice did I have.My planner is great she helped me see the silver lining and though it's not my first choice the last week of August may not be that terrible.

This is what I take from it trying to look at the bright side with both weeks having their positives and negatives.

My daughter undoubtedly would have wanted to use the pools in Dec kids don't care she would have gone in either way but it may be a tad chilly for a nice relaxing swim and a night swim after a day at the parks would probably be out it would be way too cool.swimming in August well we could really enjoy the gorgeous pools at AOA anytime of the day with it being 90 degrees not looking forward to the heat but the pools will be so relaxing which leads into another silver lining we planned on spending a great deal of time in the parks but with it being so hot taking a break mid day is going to be crucial whether it be to go back to the resort and relax or go swimming even sitting in a nice cool restraunt for lunch we are going to have to take our share of breaks so by going at the end of August this financially allows us to spend an extra day in the resort and parks because of the room discounts so instead of going for 5 nights six days we are able to extend our trip an extra day 6 nights 7 days with it running only a smidge over what we would have paid for one less day in Dec so this will make up for some of the breaks and gives us a chance to enjoy the resort a bit more we probably would not have been there much if we were going in Dec.My last observance may be a push but the crowd levels for the last couple of weeks of August are said to be some of the lowest all year with kids either back to school in some parts of the country while others like my daughter are getting ready to start in September so though the weather will be uncomfortably hot I'll take hot & humid over crowds any day.the last week of August and 1st week of Dec is probably a push as far as crowds go but it's better than having to settle on an over crowded park.the last thing my planner pointed out is even though it was not my original choice with us going the last week of August but Halloween party starts that week so my daughter could at least experience that.it may not be as magical as the Christmas party but it's better than none at all.not quite sure of the hours for the parks in Dec but the parks are probably open later in August not quite sure.

So even though our Dec plans got a monkey wrench thrown into them I'm trying to see the silver lining though it's going to be hot & humid with a daily dose of downpour(that's what ponchos are for)hot & humid is better than crowds.swimming will not be a question we will make good use of the awesome pools in AOA.we are getting an extra day in Disney for almost the same price as in December.though it was not our first choice our daughter will still experience a super fun exciting event in the not so scary Halloween party.

With all the disappointment we are trying to see the silver lining in having to switch our vacation plans we still would prefer to go in Dec but maybe going at the end of August won't be so bad.

Whatever time we go Disney is Disney the most important thing is that our little girl has the most magical time any little girl could wish for visiting the most magical place on earth!!

I think any time can be a good time. It looks like you're already starting to think of the pros to a summer trip.

I'd like to add that the park hours are likely to be longer, and you'll have more hours of sunlight to enjoy everything. You can start early, then take a break for a nap/swim, followed up by an evening in the parks when it's cooler. We didn't stay at AoA, but we stopped by for lunch on our first day of the last trip to do the drawing class - so much fun!

Also, I don't know how you're getting to Disney, but the airfares are likely to be lower in August than December.

Clap your hands I did not take air fare into account and yeah you are probably right traveling in August vs the weekend of thanksgiving is probably considerably cheaper thank-you for pointing that out.

There's another pro for a late summer trip!:dogdance:

As a heads up, swimming when the air is hotter than the pool water is going to be odd. It’ll feel cooler. Pools are heated to about 80 year round.

You will LOVE Art of Animation with your daughter! The pools are a great variety with lots of activities for kids. My three daughters and I have stayed Little Mermaid five trips! We tried Contemporary first time but wanted a more Disney movie type immersion experience with our resort and have been so happy with AOA now. It’s our home:love:. We tried Pop last time to see the new rooms and said nope back to AOA LM. People complain about the walk to LM rooms - it’s no further than the AOA bus stop at MK to the gates really. Plus you get to walk thru Lion King and the boneyard play area and under the huge log with the theming so great to play! We learned to take our mugs with us. Some have mentioned to get pool locker to store mugs but we just toss ours in the backpack or stroller and grab refills when we get off the bus and go thru Landscape of Flavors. Lots of good options there. It’s a busy resort but we love that part with all the families.
We have been December (Christmas New Year week) three times and June/July (4th Julyweek) three times. We are so much happier having more pool time in summer to relax. Yes it’s hot but with good plans you will make it. Lots of rest water & sunscreen :sunny:. Have a great time planning!:flower1:

Greenmom thank-you a lot of what I’ve been hearing is pretty much what you said yes the walk is a bit long but not terrible the AOA resort is made for kids and as far as the heat goes it is what it is if we have a plan (taking breaks mid day) it’s not terrible.being able to book an extra day for almost the same price as when we were going to go in DEC does not make it so bad having that extra day will give us that feel that we’re not missing anything by taking extra breaks and we would really be able to enjoy the pools not that we wouldn’t go in them in dec but it’s so more relaxing when the air is warmer than the pool.

I think the biggest Disappointment is not being in Disney with it all decorated for Christmas we were so looking forward to that but all that matters really is that my daughter has a magical time which I’m sure she will.with the time we are going crowds will be less and we can enjoy the Halloween party which was pretty cool we attended it when my wife & I did Disney on our honeymoon

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions
