Hi we are prospective new members to the DVC.......

I wonder if anyone out there could possibly offer advice. We are currently hoping to transfer our initial payment to DVC from the UK, however the UK banks are offering really low exchange rates and a transfer fee (Very greedy) we have however come across numerous online agencies that can handle the transfer for us - they offer much better rates of exchange and no transfer fee. My concern is find one that is reputable, has anyone out there used one of these agencies? and can you feedback on the pro's and con's hopefully steering us towards a recommended company that we can use.

Kindest regards,

The Allen family.

Derbyshire England.

We use our credit card for this, as we receive a lot of airline reward miles for our transactions involving DVC. It gets around converting to another currency with costly bank transfers.

Hi,
I have a similar query. Does it matter what credit card you use? I know that some, like Nationwide / Abbey are better when actually using abroad (no charges) but does this matter when sending payments from the UK to US either by phone or online? I would rather use Amex as I get cash back on it!
Thanks

It doesn't matter which card you use, but some do not have the foreign currency loading - so you are effectively getting a commercial rate. The loading is typically 2.75% so if you are getting more than this as a cashback on your Amex it may be worth it to you. My Amex rewards are not sufficient for me ever to consider using it for US transactions!

Usually recommended are Nationwide (which I have) and the Post Office cc's in the UK for an excellent rate of exchange. The UK DVC board often covers this item.

I am regularly transferring or using my card abroad and find amazing! I have halifax electron account, normally in the UK they are fairly useless cards but in America or transfering into dollars it only charges is £1.50 per transaction and that is it, no other charges. Since it is a basic account with no upgrades I find it amazing compared to what other banks charge.

I hope this helps.

Hi
I was looking this up last night and on moneysavingexpert.com and it recommended a few companies. HIFX, Currencies direct and Foreign currencies direct. I have never used them but we have just had an offer accepted for DVC so we are looking to use one of these to send the balance off the the Timeshare Store. Hope that is of some help.
Ann
Just had another thought - have you asked this on the UK DVC board?
