Money to spend

I was thinking about taking a couple hundred US and using Visa for most spending. I would use the cash for mostly snacks and small things. I would use Visa for dinners, purchases etc. I plan on getting groceries and taking snacks, sandwiches, etc to the parks so we don't have to spend a lot on food there and then get a good meal for dinner. I was thinking about $200 US, but might take a bit more and I am not sure if I should get traveller's cheques or not. What do you do?

If you are styaing on-site that should be more than enough...almost anything, including snacks can be charged to your room card.

The bank told me if I was taking under $1000 I should take the cash. Apparently the cheques have been hard to cash in some places. I don't know why that would be....

We are staying offsite. I will split the cash up between myself and my wife.

Has anyone ever used the CAA Visa Cash money card??

We are trying to figure out whether to take cash or this card or traveller's cheques

I always take cash and try not to use my CC's. I find that I keep a better eye on my spending if I have cash instead of swiping and forgetting. Last trip I took down/budgeted $1700 and used it for AP's at WDW and US, and for food and souviners for the two of us for a week. I only dipped in the ATM's once and the CC once at the outlets.
That's what works for me, but some people aren't comfortable carrying lots of cash on them.

We go for at least 10 days and take $500 US cash and put EVERYTHING else on CC thru Disney room card key. Sometimes we come back with $200, sometimes only $50. Sandra

I'm a cash person.

We always use cash only on vacation. I wouldn't say I'm exactly comfortable caring around a large amount but I keep my spending in check when I use cash. I prefer not to get a whopper of a bill when I get home either. It's a big downer after a wonderful vacation. The only thing I will charge is the hotel and usually I have pre-paid that amount on my cc before I leave.

Hi, I was wondering whether, for the people who take larger amounts of cash, you leave some of the cash in your room safe? I think the All Star resorts have in-room safes; is that right? Thanks!

We are taking $1000.00 in cash but we will be splitting it up between my husband and myself. My daughters are each bringing $300.00, I told them that anything that they wanted that wasn't food or the odd souvenir that they were buying themselves.

I keep money in the safe in the room all the time and have never had problems. We also carry TC and have never had a problem cashing them anywhere - also, figure if they are lost or stolen, very easy to replace compared to cash!

I take about $500 cash and TC and try not to use the CC unless for large purchases. I usually come back home with some cash, which I put back into my USD account.

I'm a cash person too. I hate the idea of having a bill to come home to. Plus most CC co's don't always give as good of an exchange rate, I find.
