Yeah, I played the position that is at the front of the team on the left that you can see...I supported the hooker while the second bound on to me.

However, I will note that this is not a picture of me playing...the form on the woman in my position is poor.

what exactly are they doing when they do that? My Grandpa was quite the rugy fan, but he was from Wales.

That's a picture of a scrum. When a ball goes "off sides" the scrum occurs. "off sides" is any time a ball is sent forward by touching it with your hands, on purpose or accidentally. That mass of people is formed (it's very carefully formed, your head and neck are in bizzarre positions) and the scrum is engaged (you lock your heads together and apply pressure)....then the scrumhalf carefully puts the ball in the middle. The hookers try to hook the ball with their foot and send it back to their own team....the scrum players push forward to give their hooker the advantage.

It's all about control.

If the ball goes out of bounds, you have a line out, which looks like this:

okey dokey then!

And this is a Ruck...that's when you are tackled, you lay the ball down on the ground. When more than one player is there, you can't touch the ball with your hands, only your feet.

It sucks to be the one on the ground sometimes...people step on you. I used to get little polka dot bruises all over my body from the other players' cleats

As opposed to a maul, where everyone is still on their feet...that's when brute force comes in...you shove the other team forward while "bound" to your teammates....I used to love mauls...I'd come into the other team's player with something called a power step, basically I'd plant my foot and thrust upward with my shoulder and elbow directly into their solar plexus...most times they'd just drop to the ground.

DISCLAIMER!!! I love Lou, its just sort funny

Thanks for the rugby lessons, Lara! :thumbsup2 Now, who in the world actually thought up all these things and why? :confused3
