Monday Jan 5 and horrible crowds!!!!!

Here for the marathon weekend and maybe others are too, but I thought after the kids were back in school after Christmas break it would be a little quieter,. Soooo crowded and currently standing in the worst line for PiOTC that I've ever seen, and we usually vacation in summer! Giant queue and wait time says 60 minutes! Any thoughts on why the park is so crowded?

Probably because Florida kids are NOT back to school yet, at least mine aren't.

Some places have longer breaks and aren't back in school. But I know around here parents will also extend winter break and take some extra days as well.

Not all Orlando kids; my parents and sister live in Orlando, and their neighborhood goes back Wednesday. We live in Tampa area and mine go back to school tomorrow.

Most of the Tampa Bay schools don't go back until tomorrow.....and today is not a blackout date for Florida Resident passes.

MK was the least recommended park by Easy WDW today. Monday is the second busiest day of the week, after Saturday.

Conversely, I have a friend at Universal today and was told the lines are very short.

We were at Magic Kingdom and Epcot over the weekend. Both parks were absolutely packed!! I figured it was because the Christmas/New Years vacationers had not left for home yet.

We live in the Orlando area and our kids are back in school.

We live on the Space Coast and our county schools do not to back until tomorrow. I know of at least one family who headed over today since they are posting on FB.

Also--Florida Resident Seasonal pass blackout lifted Saturday. I presume CM must have as well since the family that went, mom is a seasonal CM and they only go on whatever passes she may get. (She plays in the Orchestra for the CP at EPCOT.)

Because it's MK on a Monday. Here's a look at the other parks. Only HS looks busy, really.

After today, the Electrical Parade is only running one of the next four days. Also, the hours drop off at MK after today (from 10:00pm closing to 8:00pm closing the next couple of days).

Combine those factors with it being Monday and it drives a lot of "traffic" to the MK.

Even HS is not bad. Heck if I had those times I'd be jumping for joy.

Maybe it is just MK - I was at DHS yesterday, and thought the crowds were very reasonable. RnR was down most of the day, and TS was its usual hour long nightmare, but otherwise we found it to be rather quiet. I assumed most people were heading back home after the holidays.

As for Florida kids going back to school, my son went back today, but if other Florida counties are starting later this week, I imagine a lot of local families waited until today to hit the parks, hoping the out-of-towners would be gone.

We used to go this week each year but no more. Seems more and more schools delay the return to school until later, especially when Christmas hits late in the week. One year we actually didn't go back to school until after the marathon weekend - good for us to go down but not for crowds.

I am currently in Animal Kingdom and the crowds are non existent. EVERYTHING is 25 minutes or less. I am in the line for the Safari and the line is 10 minutes. I LOVE IT!
