Moms who don't vaccinate or selectively vaccinate, .........

Much, much milder cases of CP with a shot, however.

I agree with other posters who say you should find a Pediatrician who can respect your views, though.

yes it would be milder. and mine have had the first shot, which i was unsure of giving but did it anyway.........

Well of course polio is mostly gone - luckily though it has a lot to do with hygiene.

Anyways, measles are not so horrible LOL. Besides a lot of the cases of measles and mumps are in vaccinated children.

Hygiene???? Really???

I get it now. I'm done.

If everyone felt the way the non-vaccine group felt, there would be little immunity are a whole. Diseases like Polio, Malaria, Small Pox, etc. would make a comeback and start killing again.

Would this change anybody's mind about vaccinating?

I mean right now the risk of contracting these diseases is so low BECAUSE so many people are vaccinated.

Would you choose to vaccinate your child is there was an outbreak of small pox at school?

Anybody who has had chicken pox the disease is at risk for shingles. I was speaking with a 70 year old who had it, and she was very sorry she hadn't gotten the vaccine for older people to prevent shingles.

Again, I've had NO childhood diseases either (except chicken pox) ... and because so many people vaccinate, I will likely never get them, so I don't get the whole "what if what if" questions.

IF you have the chicken pox vaccine, you are at a higher risk of getting shingles - and at a much younger age. It used to be an elderly people disease and now its showing up in the 20 year old crowd.

Oh and people are finally waking up and realizing that the chicken pox vaccine isn't all its cracked up to be - so more and more people are actually not vaccinating for CP (even when they vaccinate for everything else) and are actively looking for a pox party so their children will receive natural immunity.

Very true.. because we all know young children are especially renowned for their impeccable hygiene. :snooty: ;)

My children don't go to those places - I've seen the village and don't want them teaching my kids LOL. And if by some chance my child were exposed to small pox, I'd do my research of the vaccine and disease and make my risk vs. benefit. If the risk outweighs the benefit, not happening. I the benefit outweighs the risk, sure.

As the parent, its YOUR responsibility to be sure they do. LOL. I mean do you let your child walk around funky? I would hope not.

That doesn't match what the research I have seen says. The Gardasil vaccine is effective against 4 strains of HPV, but those 4 strains are responsible for about 70% of the cases of HPV. It's not accurate to make the statement you did.

I have a wonderful pediatricain and family doctor who both told me not to get this shot for my daughter yet. She said it was still to new and had some problems.

I have vacinated my older with all shots. My younger dd has had only shots I feel are utterly inportant...NOT the chicken pox shot...It just seems if they are already having to give boosters so we may have adults getting chicken pox which is much more dangerous.

Of course not. My kids are bathed and clean when they are sent to preschool (and school in the fall) and I do everything I can to cram hand washing down their throats but I can't watch them all day while they are in school wrestling around with other children, playing in the dirt, school bathrooms, lunch rooms, toys a million other kids have touched, etc. Unless you keep them home under thumb 24/7 they are going to encounter germs from other children, toys, dirt, etc.

And I think you missed my point about the immunity standpoint. Of course your kids aren't going to be going to third world countries where some of these disease are still rampant. That is my POINT exactly. WE would have these outbreaks if the majority of parents didn't vaccinate. Basically, those of us who chose to vaccinate are protecting your children from these diseases. You can thank us later. :thumbsup2

Find a new doc. Having an unsupportive doc isn't worth the hassle. Here in Jacksonville, there are 2 pediatricians who work together - 1 is a holistic doc and a medical doc. The other is a lactation consultant and a medical doc. The duo are fabulous. They are find with no vax or selective vax or delayed vax. Really they don't care what you do as long as they believe that you have researched it.

We don't see them because they dont take our insurance. Instead, if my kids are REALLY sick, we go to Solantic (urgent care).

I mean really what are the point of well visits? haha

Anyways, a really good supportive site is Mothering.com - they have a message board JUST FOR vaccine info. They are a fabulous bunch.

BTW, to those of you who think that our non-vaccinated kids are a threat to y our vaccinated kid? If you believe vaccines work, why are you worried?

Not trying to be rude here but a lot of people on that website are alarmists and think all doctors are evil. I too research vaccines and do support a lot of what you say but I would not use that site as any source of information.

Please tell me this isn't a reference to schools because if it is then I find you very insulting.

Herd immunity is a bunch of bull. I think if anything your child is shedding those vaccines around my child, you are actually putting my child in harms way (and every other child).

I cannot imagine sending my child off to school and not knowing that their teacher were making sure they are clean and that things they come into contact with are clean. But, also, by the time they are school age, they should have built up some sort of immune system naturally.

So there aren't these things in vaccines? Is that what you are trying to say? Regardless of what the vaccine does or does not do, these things ARE in vaccines. There is no disputing that. I cannot fathom how anyone would inject a dead baby's cells into their own child?

I'd inject anything into my child if it was going to protect them from a deadly disease! My DH's aunt died of polio - these diseases are real, and the problem is that we're a generation who didn't live at a time when people were dying from them.

I only know one person IRL who didn't vaccinate - and her ds is autistic.

Sorry you find it insulting - too bad I'm not here to please everyone.

When 6 yr olds start bringing guns to school that is my cue that the schools are not fit for children.

There is a lot about this thread that I have found insulting - oh well. We are adults and we get over it.

I know many people who did vaccinate and have autistic children - I know many people who do not vaccinate - some with autistic children and some without.

Who says these vaccines protect against deadly diseases? Who is to say that these vaccines will prevent 100%? No one!

There are some that are evil LOL. Many think they know all and that us parents are the idiots? The women over on Mothering may be a little fanatical, but they know where to go for the info. ;-)

Our peds will ask people to leave the practice if they choose not to vaccinate.

I don't think that any person is evil. I will agree with you though that doctors aren't the end all be all. A lot of it is science and a lot of it is their personal opinion.

I would like to say, for the record, I'm not insulted by anything in this thread. I love a good debate and especially like weighing different views, experiences, and opinions.

I think the "evils" of public school vary greatly by area and district. We chose to purchase a house in a very good district because the public schools here are terrific. We also have a good choice of private schools in case we'd like to go that route.

But no matter WHERE children go to school (assuming they aren't at home) they are going to encounter other children who may not be as clean as your kids. THAT is inevitable. The teachers can't sterilize every thing each time a child touches it. Sorry, that is not even a reasonable expectation. The custodians aren't bleaching the toilet seat every time a child uses it.. again, unreasonable to expect that. Unless you purel your child anytime they leave your home, and all day while they are gone.. you can not ensure complete hygiene.
