Moms to Be Part 3

In your situation, I would strongly agree with you. Actually, I think it would even be a big concern in my decision to have a 2nd kid, the fear of going through that again. A friend of mine had a rough delivery with her 1st, ended in a c-section, and before trying for #2 she made sure she could plan a c-section the 2nd time cause she did not want to go through all that pain and end up in the ER in an emergency situation again.

I'm thinking more of the people who just randomly want one for no apparent reason. Another friend had a totally normal, easy (electively induced) delivery with her first kid, but was demanding a c-section with the 2nd cause she didn't want to have to labor, wait hours for the baby to come out, push, etc. She had literally no complications with her first birth, just didn't like hanging out in the hospital from 6am when they started the induction till her son was born at 6pm. Her dr refused to schedule a c-section in advance without any medical reason and she went into labor on her own with the 2nd, had a super easy delivery, and was fine. Yet again, with the 3rd kid born 2 weeks ago, she again wanted the c-section. She tried every excuse she could think of but the dr still wouldn't budge, though he did let her schedule an induction for 39 weeks, which satisfied her enough.

And regarding this friend, she lived in a townhouse with 3 flights of stairs. I don't think she would have had any idea what it would be like to recover from surgery, walk up and down those stairs all day, and take care of a newborn and 17 month old. This time around she has just 2 flights of stairs, but a 3yo and 4.5yo and the newborn, so I can't imagine surgery added into that mix.

That is my plan.

I'm only having a #2 if I can schedule a c-section. I can't repeat my experience with Lucas again, I think it would be the end of me.

Ditto on the stairs, she is lucky her Dr. didn't budge. Stairs are the reason I was still in a ton of pain so long.

They said they provide a PAPER shirt... a PAPER shirt for baby and a blanket that we are not allowed to take so to bring our own. I am just very shocked considering the cost of a birth etc. and now I will pack diapers and wipes and everything else as well just in case.

All they give you is a paper shirt?? :eek:What hospital in pemproke pines are you going to?? I've never heard of that? And you can't keep the blanket? Ya the cost of everything I thought they'd give you atleast a couple shirts and a couple blankets to keep as a memory.

I am sure they will let you schedule a c-section after you have already had one. It is actually quite difficult to find a Dr. willing to do a VBAC, so I don't think you will have any issues there :)

You probably already asked your dr and got the okay, but I know my friend was allowed to choose a date for c-section #2. Also, another friend just had her 4th kid, 4th c-section. 1st one was like Lucas' birth and she refused to repeat that again, especially because the baby had gone into distress and needed an oxygen tent after she was born and it was so scary for them. They hadn't found out in advance what they were having and she realized an hour after the baby was born she still didn't know and didn't even care cause she was so distressed and worried. The 2nd and 3rd were planned c-sections and this 4th one was supposed to be, but she went into labor 2 days earlier on her own, but they just did the c-section at 5am when she got to the hospital rather than have her labor or anything.

I have a friend in town today whom I need to meet up with in a bit. Actually, I met her on the original New Moms thread here, believe it or not. Luckily I am feeling pretty good at the moment, and hope to stay that way since she got us a tour of the Capitol and though I've lived here 7 years I have never gone on a tour.

Oh, and my daughter called my mom and MIL yesterday to tell them our big news and no one seemed to hear or understand her cause when we emailed them the ultrasound photos they were all in shock! So clearly that didn't go quite as planned, but they're all excited to know at this point, which is good.

Sarah - Hope things are going well or you so far today!

FWIW, they will have no idea if you take a blanket, at least the way our hospital is designed. They always had my babies wrapped in one, then another one in the bassinet in case of spills, leaks, whatever. A lot of times the extra one ended up in my room and there would be a new one in the bassinet next time. Now my son, he was under the UV lights, so he was always naked, but I still managed to get a blanket and shirt home with me. We were supposed to give the shirts back, but could keep the blankets, but I took one of each with each kid and saved them and plan to do the same this time.

I'm curious what hospital it is too!

It's Memorial West which is supposed to be a great hospital. I told my mom about the paper shirts and she said that's all they ever give but everyone else I have spoken with said they got just a little white shirt. I have no problem packing things for him, I'm just glad I found out beforehand because I would have been upset to not have packed enough for him.

Yeah really, what about people who don't take a tour? I still can't grasp the paper shirt. The logistics of getting anything paper on a newborn do not seem easy!

Ya that's a great hospital I've heard LOTS of great stuff about it :thumbsup2 Ya I donno maybe at different hospitals its different with stuff like that. Ya I'll be sure to ask so that I could pack too. Atleast you found out now so that way you can pack. Your getting soo close I'm sure your sooo excited!! :flower3:

Isn't Sarah being induced today? (harleyquinn) How exciting! I hope everything is going well and hope to see pictures soon!

I had my first official appt at the doctor's office today. I met with a nurse who went over a ton of paperwork and I scheduled my first doctor's appt for 2 weeks and also my 20 week ultrasound when we will hopefully find out if it's a boy or girl! I had to have bloodwork too. They took 8 vials! I'm not a fan of that at all. blech!

My OB encourages VBACs. At my 6wk postpartum checkup we briefly discussed the possibility of my having another baby and she said something like "If you decide to have another baby your next labor will probably be nothing like this last one." and I just stared at her and said "You'd let me labor again?" and she said "Sure, why not?" :scared1::scared1:

DH and I have had our talk now, though, and I spoke with my OB today. She assured me she would prefer I labor, as a VBAC is possible, but If I want to plan a c-section she won't fight me on it. Phew! :thumbsup2

I never even thought to ask if I could take blankets/shirts. They would have let me keep those? Now I'm a bit bummed. :rotfl: Lucas had a whole stack of clean shirts/blankets in the bottom of his cart with the bottles/wipes/diapers/etc. ... I'm sure they never would have noticed if I'd swiped one.

...I came over to here to say GOOD LUCK SARAH!!!:banana:

...back to my lurking now, I'll give you guys up soon.. but I truly miss being pregnant and reading about all you guys if like an addiction. (How freaky is that? I miss being pregnant!)

Good luck Sarah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just popping in to checking your status. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Also checking in to say good luck to Sarah!! I already told her on FB but I guess you can never say it enough ;)

I'm slightly freaked though...she and I joined this thread around the same time...I'm only a week behind her so I'm next to go! Along with Melessa too. It's a little scary

Ahhh... I wonder is going on with Lily and Sarah!!

I could make it to Cleveland in just a few hours... hmm... kidding, kidding..

Ugh, I know! I am up sick and hoping to read exciting news!

Well, I should be able to hear the heartbeat today at my doc's appointment. For some reason I am totally nervous about it. I think it is because I haven't really been sick this time (knock on wood!). I was ungodly sick with my DS, and this time, I get a little queasy every now and then, but nothing major at all. I had read somewhere online, can't remember where, that when women who have gone through cancer become pregnant, they are better able to deal with any sickness issues. Don't know if it is true, but that would describe me to a T!

Good Luck at your doctors appointment BabyTigger!
We weren't able to hear the heartbeat at 12 weeks but my doc brought in the ultrasound machine and everything looked fine - the doc said that the baby was just moving around too much for her to catch the sound. I hope you get to hear it!!

Has anybody bought a pregnancy pillow? I'm having a really hard time getting comfortable at night and I wake up with back aches that last almost the whole day. Just wondering if anyone has one and if so what brands you'd recommend.
Thanks!!

Go for it! And report back immediately ;)

BabyTigger, good luck at your appointment today! I'm sure everything will be fine. Everything I've read says that all your pregnancies are different and so just because you were really sick with the last one doesn't mean it will be that way with this one. Don't let it worry you too much, everything's fine

cappygirl, yes I bought a pregnancy pillow. Can't remember the name of it but I bought it at Burlignton Coat Factory at the Baby Depot. Don't know if they are nationwide or not. But they have them everywhere, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. And they're pretty much all the same. But honestly, it only helped at the beginning of my pregnancy. As I got bigger just having pillows situated around me worked better than the one big pillow. You just have to find what works for you! But I definitely wouldn't buy a super expensive one cause if it doesn't work for you then it was just a waste of money. I think mine was around 25 bucks.

Enjoy your appointment!!

I wish that stuff about morning sickness was true - I had cancer and boy did ALL day sickness until I was about 14 weeks. It was not pleasant!! Thankfully I got over that!! I just think each pregnancy is different. Maybe this time it is a girl?? :)

Thanks!!

I just got a body pillow at Walmart that was $8, DH and I joke that it is my best friend. I have some shoulder issues so I wanted to be sure I could have it between my legs and still have pillow up near my face so I could put my arm around it (and thus support my shoulder). It has helped so much, I can't sleep without it. I think I got it when I was about 12-14 weeks, and I am 28 now and still love it. It isn't too bulky and it was cheap! I just use other pillows if I want more around me. . . .
