Moms to Be Part 3

At the risk of appearing insane, I'm switching back to my original screenname. I didn't want our friends IRL who post here to read about the baby, then say it in front of someone who didn't know or post it on Facebook (cause my whole family seems to be on there). But now that I feel pretty safe about things after the ultrasound, I guessI can switch back. Anyway, so I was boltfans and now I'm back to justhat.

Boltfans/justhat - how exciting! So glad to see all is well, what a cute little face your baby has already!!

Hi everyone! Boltfans, congratulations on a great ultrasound! Were the kids excited to see the baby? You're a month ahead of me so it's neat to see what's just around the corner. :goodvibes

Anyway, I had a ******l sonogram today, Supposedly it looks just fine, but all it looks like is a white spot in a black hole, lol. The doctor said he could see the heart fluttering but it didn't look like much going on to me. I go back at the end of next week, and he said the heartbeat should be strong by then. I will not feel comfortable until we see that.

Chloe - I felt the same way, hence not wanting to tell people until I finally saw/heard a heartbeat and everything. I think it's particularly true if you've been waiting awhile to finally get that positive HPT. I know with my 1st 2 they were immediate conceptions and I didn't quite get as nervous (though we still did wait a bit to tell most people), but having actually tried for this one for awhile it seemed more shaky to me.

Adi - Thanks! I think so too. ;)

I felt totally okay all day and now I am sick and, yet again, my husband is working overnight. I'm about to put my kids to bed then try to relax a bit before I go to bed too.

I'm sorry. My DH worked overnight for all of my first trimester and most of my second. Dealing with kids and the icky sickies by myself just about drove me nuts. But it really did pass eventually.

They don't provide those little white t-shirts or anything? That's mildly annoying, cause I know my kids went through a few of those a day, so I can't imagine if I had to use all my own stuff and leave the hospital with a laundry bag. My kids were just in that little white snap up shirt, the hat, and a blanket. They did ask us to leave the shirt when we were discharged, but we were allowed to keep a blanket and the hat.

They said they provide a PAPER shirt... a PAPER shirt for baby and a blanket that we are not allowed to take so to bring our own. I am just very shocked considering the cost of a birth etc. and now I will pack diapers and wipes and everything else as well just in case.

Our baby girl arrived on 7/15! We named her Camryn Lynn. My water had actually broke early on Tuesday morning, a high leak. I woke up in the middle of the night to what I thought was my bladder leaking, went to the bathroom and thought nothing of it. Nothing more came out. I went to work the whole day with no leakage. I had no idea my water had broken! I happened to have a check up after work and the doctor had told me that my water had broken, go home and eat dinner and then head to the hospital. I was supposed to be induced on Wednesday morning. They gave me cervidil to soften my cervix and went into labor on my own around 10 pm. Contractions came very quickly, and the epidural was placed at exactly midnight. At that point, the baby's heart rate also dropped and it was determined that the umbilical cord was wrapped loosely around her neck. Ten minutes later they were prepping me for an emergency c-section. She was born at 2:23am. The surgery went quickly and the baby is healthy and beautiful. Had to stay in the hospital a few extra days, so we are glad to finally be home. I love being a mom already. :cloud9:

CONGRATUALTIONS!! I love her name and I'm glad you are both home and healthy.

Congratulations and welcome baby Camryn! That's scary about the umbilical cord but I'm glad everything turned out well. And glad to hear your're loving being a mom :goodvibes

justhat, what cute U/S pictures! Looks like you've got a little cutie already :)

Skylarr, I can't believe they don't provide anything for the baby! What the heck kind of hospital is that? I thought most hospitals at least had the generic clothing and blankets they let you use for the baby. How weird! That stinks you have to take so much extra stuff now. I'd be annoyed too! Like you said, it's not exactly cheap to give birth.

I am sooooooo ready for Jake to come out already. I have been downing fresh pineapple like crazy in hopes of getting things going :rotfl: Tomorrow I am going grocery shopping and running a few other errands so maybe the walking will help too. I just want my little boy to be here already :cloud9:

Congrats Luckyfin!! Scary about the umbilical cord, but I am happy everything turned out great. How's your recovery going so far?

Skylarr - That is crazy about the paper shirt. Crazy. I can't even imagine what that would be like. FWIW, I think they have to provide diapers, cause they usually slap one on as soon as it pops out, so they can't possibly expect you to hand them some right after you birth the baby. But wipes, I know our hospital won't use them. They give you wipe-sized gauze pads and a squirt bottle of water and tell you to use that. They don't like using wipes on the newborns cause some babies get rashes/reactions to different wipes. My kids were pretty much fine (though if my son did get a diaper rash, they cleared up way faster when we'd use wet clothes, not wipes, with each change), but I guess they just don't want to risk a reaction. Oh, and those fake wipes were fine for me while in the hospital, but I do think real wipes are easier just cause you don't have to wet them each time, so if that's a concern to you I would definitely bring my own in case your hospital is the same.

ETA: Veronica - Good luck getting labor going! Those last few days always seem to drag on while you're waiting for your little one to arrive.

Evening everyone! Went to a breastfeeding class tonight at our hospital and it was really informative. We got a small book and tons of handouts and watched some videos. I'm trying to get the idea in my head of lack of sleep with feedings 8-12 times a day...I'm not sleeping well at night anyways (someone is way too active for my taste) so I guess the baby is getting me ready in regards to night feedings. :teeth:

Congrats Luckyfin!! Scary about the umbilical cord, but I am happy everything turned out great. How's your recovery going so far?

Feeling better today. I can't figure out why anyone would choose to have a c-section?:confused3

I have never had c-section, but I don't get it either. I can't imagine that recovering from surgery is fun when you have a newborn. I've had sinus surgery and that was bad enough to recover from and I was 22 without any kids!

That's my biggest fear! Even though my doctor keeps telling me that my chances of having a c-section are really low I still keep freaking out thinking that I may have to have one. I don't understand how so many women PLAN to have c-sections. The thought of one freaks me out!

I'm choosing to have a C-section this time around because I had complications with my DD's birth. I was still in pain three years afterward and eventually had surgery to remove about half the tissue in the birth canal and reconstruct what was left. They also recut and restitched my episiotomy. I chose a C-section for this baby because I really think I've had enough trauma to that area.

I'm pretty sure that Cathy's 'nesting' is going to be the death of me (and our finances).

Last week, we talked about her calling a handyman to come and redo the caulk around the shower doors in both of the upstairs bathrooms. I come home to find her talking to a guy about about doing some kind of spray resurfacing to both of them ($1700).

Friday, she had some guys come out to redo all the mulch beds and trim the bushes. ($900)

Friday evening, a floor guy showed up to give an estimate on the upstairs carpets, tile in all baths, laundry, kitchen, & breakfast area and wood floors in the entry and dining area. We ended up only going with the carpeting, for now ($3,600). I'll do the wood floors myself. She will get other estimates for the tile.(Truthfully, they've been on my list for some time.)

Saturday, she had a guy come over to discuss redoing the cabinets in the kitchen, three baths, laundry, and the living room built-ins. We should get the estimate in a few days.

We spent the bulk of Sunday (and early Monday morning) packing up two bedrooms and an office so the carpet guys could come on Monday morning. We basically packed everything and crammed it into the two full baths. With everything packed up, she couldn't do any work. (She works from home and the network equipment and her computer were packed away.)

On Monday morning about nine, they called to tell her that they wouldn't be out until Tuesday. This gave us no place to shower and left her with another day without pay. In other words, she was majorly stressed. She unleashed a flurry of despair on Empire management. In the course of the day, she learned that a friend of a friend of a friend does carpet. She met with her and learned that they would be able to do the job for $600 less than Empire and that they would be able to fit in the job that afternoon. They were able to get us a carpet that is almost exactly like the berber that she had previously picked out and showed up at the house around 3pm. They worked non-stop until after midnight, but they got it done.

Cathy, silly thing that she is, was up until past 2:30 making beds and unpacking one of the bathrooms. My idea was to sleep downstairs and let me unpack one of the baths in the morning, but she chose to go her own way.

On a different note, she has turned a corner in the last week or so. For one thing, she went from just feeling a little tickle from the baby to getting regular beatings from her. Yesterday, she felt her first kick from the outside. I think that being able to feel this greater movement has helped her feel more confident about making it through the pregnancy and has reduced the number of times that she has had panic attacks.

At the same time, her back pain seems to be getting worse. The hot water bottle has become her friend.

ok, is it wrong to have a million emotions and concerns running through me? Perhaps I should stop watching A Baby Story and other shows like that :rotfl: But seriously... I go from having the littlest concern (I hope that my stomach doesn't get stretchmarks) to the biggest (I hope that our baby isn't sick i.e. Downs Syndrome) I just feel like all my friends and family members that have had babies recently have had these perfect babies. What if mine is the one that has something wrong. I'm not really looking for any responses to this, I just kind of needed to get it off my chest.

Thanks for letting me vent :goodvibes

I know exactly how you are feeling...I am holding a beautiful 3 week old little girl now. I would think I am 40 years old , there are already 20 healthy grand-children in my family, should I have had the amnio. Try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy...and yes stop watching those shows, they stressed me out too!!

In your situation, I would strongly agree with you. Actually, I think it would even be a big concern in my decision to have a 2nd kid, the fear of going through that again. A friend of mine had a rough delivery with her 1st, ended in a c-section, and before trying for #2 she made sure she could plan a c-section the 2nd time cause she did not want to go through all that pain and end up in the ER in an emergency situation again.

I'm thinking more of the people who just randomly want one for no apparent reason. Another friend had a totally normal, easy (electively induced) delivery with her first kid, but was demanding a c-section with the 2nd cause she didn't want to have to labor, wait hours for the baby to come out, push, etc. She had literally no complications with her first birth, just didn't like hanging out in the hospital from 6am when they started the induction till her son was born at 6pm. Her dr refused to schedule a c-section in advance without any medical reason and she went into labor on her own with the 2nd, had a super easy delivery, and was fine. Yet again, with the 3rd kid born 2 weeks ago, she again wanted the c-section. She tried every excuse she could think of but the dr still wouldn't budge, though he did let her schedule an induction for 39 weeks, which satisfied her enough.

And regarding this friend, she lived in a townhouse with 3 flights of stairs. I don't think she would have had any idea what it would be like to recover from surgery, walk up and down those stairs all day, and take care of a newborn and 17 month old. This time around she has just 2 flights of stairs, but a 3yo and 4.5yo and the newborn, so I can't imagine surgery added into that mix.

I'm pretty sure that Cathy's 'nesting' is going to be the death of me (and our finances).

I think my DH can completely relate! I am not even going to say how much money I have spent this week on things the baby 'needs'. Poor hubby, lol!
