Moms to Be Part 3

Thank you so much Sarah!
She is adorable... but then again I'm biased... :lmao:

Well she eats like a fiend... seriously. I would bf continuously all day if I'd let her. I just got off bf-ing her (just now) after about close to 2 hours... with a 15min break in between. My ****s are very VERY sore and DH finally trumped my decision to continue bf-ing for the night and gave her a bit of formula. Because of her appetite we had to supplement or I would be sitting 20hrs a day bf-ing her.
Wednesday is her ped appt. I'm going to ask if this is normal...

I think it is normal and then it'll slow down over the next couple of weeks...doesn't make it any easier on you now though!

Anyone use nipple shields? My mom keeps telling me I need them, but I have no idea what they are....she heard from people at her job--she's a ped nurse...

So no maternity clothes advice??

Being pregnant so many times, I definitely got my money's worth!:thumbsup2 Seriously though, I bought a lot of stuff off of Ebay and DSis gave me some stuff to use in this last pregnancy! My recommendation is to get a few key pieces yourself and to get the rest off ebay or consignment shops!:goodvibes Good thing about the rest of your pregnancy is that it's mostly summer. You can get away with a lot less in the summer! Like long, stretchy tanks!

(Also, some maternity shorts come in handy later! I wore mine to Disney because they were comfortable and the elastic band "held in" some of my belly pudge!:rotfl:)

4 more pounds of baby weight to lose!!! Then, on to the weight I gained from quitting smoking 5 1/2 years ago!!!

I used nipple shields with DS#1 for a little while because he's tongue-tied. My nipples always hurt for the first month and then they were fine with all 3 boys.

For cheap clothes? Not really, I went to Motherhood & spent too much. :lmao: I mean just the usual, check clearance racks, Kohl's sometimes has a few maternity things. JC Penney.

I know what they are! Typically they are only used when the baby has a latch issue & *should* only be used short term, as they can impact your supply. They are a clear sort of barrier w/ small holes (kinda like a bottle nipple, but not exactly) that goes over your nipple & then baby suckles through the nipple shield. It provides less stimulation to your nipple, so possibly less milk production. Here's a medela link: http://www.medelabreastfeedingus.com/products/breastfeeding-devices#nipple-shields

You probably won't need one & if you do, I would suggest only using it under supervision of a lactation consultant.

Same here! Almost everything I have is from Motherhood. I feel like my body has a weird shape though and this was the only place I could find stuff that was both cute AND fit me properly. But I have gotten a few things from Target and if you have a Burlington Coat Factory, their Baby Depot has a small maternity clothes section too. I've seen some tops there.

Wow! Thanks everyone!! Especially about the nipple info Valerie!!

Kohl's has a bunch of stuff on sale and then I can get 30% more off, but it's still like $15 a shirt....plus I hate not being able to try it on first...the sale ends tomorrow and I won't have time to get to the store before then...

Good Morning girls. Hope everyone is having a good day. The weather here has been beautiful, so we have hit the parks the last couple of days. Boy has my walking pace sloooowed. I am usually such a fast walker, not any more. I feel like a snail.

I had a Dr's app't yesterday. Everything is good with me and baby. I can't believe I only have 39 more days to go.

Here are some pics of Katie:

This was as close as I got to her for HOURS after she was born:

December, she is gorgeous!!

I said that when we got home with the babies... Suddenly my four year old looked HUGE. Especially her head for some odd reason. :confused3 Crazy! But what a doll!! Im so excited you all are having your babies!! :cool1::cool1:

Anyways, that's our story... hope it didn't scare anyone too much. I didn't get the dreaded hemorroids but I did get crappy stitches...

here she is:

Hooray Cseca! Quite a story. Glad all went well. I was waiting for the highlighted part, don't worry it didn't scare me. I though the scariest part was when you said they stitched you up. I just hate thinking about skin that way! :rotfl: Yikes. About the BFing. She might just want something to keep her busy. I was floored to learn that their tummies are only as big as a marble. And that they absorb some of the milk/formula through their cheeks. DS would eat, and eat, and eat and then it would all come out. I was so worried he was starving but he was just overeating. I wasn't too keen on the whole paci thing but he would nurse all day if I didn't give him one. Or at least a clean pointer to have around.

She is just beautiful. It seems like everyone I know is having a girl (except my fellow boy disers!). I keep seeing pregnant people or brand new babies. I can't believe it's almost time again.

Sarah: Maternity clothes. I would try WalMart or Kohl's and go up a size or so. I had great luck in the women's department or sometimes just 1X. I have a few shirts that I just love because they are long enough but I will still be able to wear them after DS arrives because they won't be super baggy or obviously MT. It seems silly, but stores like Rainbow or Rave or the like have tanks and tops that will fit right up top and be flowing at the bottom. TJ Maxx also had some cute options, especially for dresses. I never use the shields but my BF did because she was inverted. You might not even need them. Maybe see how it goes and I'm sure the hospital will have some for you in case. DS latched on and kept going until I got PG again. It was a good time to quit I guess, but it was sad to think he didn't "need me" as much.

December: Katie looks at home with her siblings. Love the little bow! Very sweet. Do you older kids rush to see her when they come home? Does she look like either at their births?

Wow, there's a lot to comment about today! We had our appointment this morning. The NST went fine. My BP was 149/85 so they were debating on sending me in for more monitoring. I talked the dr into taking it again after the NST and after laying down for 5 more minutes it had fallen to 124/70. Phew! I escape again! We also got our paperwork for admittance to the hospital since the doctor said we might have to or will go early. I think parked right here on the couch is a nice place for me to stay for a little longer. ;)

The nursery is going to be finished on Thursday and we're going to use the long weekend to put the furniture together. Finally, I don't feel stressed out about it. I had a great time at the lunch my friends and sisters threw me on Saturday. We went to Olive Garden and chowed down on soup, salad, and bread. Yum. I wish I could make the minestrone at home. I could survive on it alone. They all pitched in and got me a spa GC for after DS is born. I am looking forward to a facial and hot rock massage. Hopefully DH won't mind me escaping for a few.

It's getting weird to see my name creeping up the list. Where in the world has the time gone?

They do. They also get up early to cuddle before school. dd9 will be home after tomorrow, but ds11 has to go Thu. She looks nothing like either of them!

Awww, that's sweet. I was secretly hoping this baby looks just like my other son because I can't imagine what he's going to look like.

December, what a beauty!!! Congrats. Your children are so cute, and they look so proud.

Today, I felt like I had a baby shower...but I didn't. My SIL sent me two big shopping totes full of formula. SCORE!! :cool1: Then my cousin was in from Canada and she had a rubbermade bin full of clothes for me. I was just speechless, I counted them when I was showing DH and she got us 40 new outfits ranging from newborn to 24 months. They are all so darn cute and girl with alot of hats which I love. I can't wait to hang them all in Emma's closet.

My heartburn is still acting up but other than that I am feeling well.
Hope you all are too!

But if I put this on Facebook or my blog, my co-workers will see it. I've mentioned before that I work as a museum registrar. I'm proud of my job. I went back to grad school while pregnant with my 4th child and getting my Master's is possibly the biggest thing I've ever accomplished outside of my four beautiful children. Because I work at a museum that markets primarily to elementary school field trips, I also have to be able to teach-it is considered a secondary responsibility. My undergrad degree was in teaching, so I usually LOVE this. However, it requires me to dress in a pioneer costume and teach in an un-airconditioned 1897 schoolhouse. When the weather was in the mid-70's, this worked. Now that it's climbing into the 80's, I'm starting to have a problem. The heat is killing me. I come home every day nauseous, swollen, and occasionally having contractions (I'll be 30 weeks on Fri.). Once I get home, I can't do anything but sit with my feet up, drinking water. (Unacceptable to my DH and kids, and I don't like it either.) While I do try to hydrate while teaching, the closest bathroom is quite a hike from the Schoolhouse and I can't leave while teaching. So, I try to be conservative until just before my lunch break and once the kids leave for the day. Tonight, at 10 p.m., my feet finally feel and look better, but I still feel like I could throw up if I move around too much. (As I've felt since I came back into the office to change into my regular clothes and cool off before picking up the kids.)

None of my bosses have kids and one's favorite phrase is "you're pregnant, not paralyzed." If I just quit (like I REALLY want to), there goes my only recommendation as this is the only place I've worked since I graduated. They are very unsympathetic to the pregnancy thus far, though and I know if I asked for less time teaching, I will be "let go" (I am already slated to be "let go" once the new fiscal year starts in July for budgetary reasons) and I really want the paycheck for as long as I can get it. Also, I would really like to finish the database update that I was originally hired to do-though there are school groups and day care groups scheduled through the end of June which will likely prevent me from doing that before my job funding runs out.

Should I talk to my Dr. and see if he can write some kind of note explaining that the heat exposure (especially in a costume w/o air conditioning) and long hours spent on my feet are potentially a problem? Or would he think I was just a lazy whiner for asking? I didn't call him about last week's contractions because I only had two and then they stopped. (Mostly because I stayed in bed as soon as I got home.) But maybe I should tell him? I'm not expecting any easy solutions here, I'm just venting because I'm too nauseous to sleep. Thanks for listening.
