Moms to Be Part 3

Linzybrooke - My son was born at 36 weeks and was 8 lbs 4 oz. I had an ultrasound the week before he was born and they estimated his weight to be 6 lbs 10 oz (obviously +/- 1 lb) and my dr scheduled an induction for me for 38 weeks. I'm also small so the concern was not so much his weight (my daughter was born 15 days early, also 8 lbs 4 oz) but that his head was measuring very large and if he got much bigger they didn't know if he'd fit or if I'd end up needing a c-section. Clearly either my son or my body knew that he wasn't gonna fit if he grew any larger as he came out on his own 2 weeks before the induction. Had he gone to term the dr thinks he would have been about 11 lbs. As it was, at 1 month old he was over 10 lbs and he lost a bunch of weight in the beginning, so I can only imagine his size had he stayed in. Good luck with whatever your dr decides to do regarding inductions or whatever. It was sort of nerve wracking for me so I can imagine how you feel.
That sounds like our exact situation, and I'm really hoping that he decides to make his appearance on his own...although my fear is my water breaking at school! We have an appointment with the specialist on Wednesday morning to confirm the weight and size readings that my normal OB took Friday.

Well I'm still around...still enjoying the yoga ball, putting my feet up other times. I think DH is nesting more than me - he's a massive pack rat and has been cleaning out his "man room" (aka basement) for the past two days. :rotfl:
I haven't felt the nesting bug at all...I hate to clean though, and think my DH is nesting more than me as well!

And on that note, it's looking like Tierney will be the first name! I told my husband I'd be buying a baby name book so we could look through it and find some options and he said "OMG, please, no, anything but the book. You can name her Tierney, it's fine with me." He may sound like he was kidding, and to some degree he was, but he also truly has no desire to search through a baby book and compile a list of names for a 2nd time, then hope some of them overlap with mine, then narrow it down from there. 1st time around we did that and still took months to agree on Madison's middle name so I think he'd do about anything to avoid that process again. Works for me! ;)

I had a meeting at the kids' school today about being a room parent/field trip coordinator in my daughter's class this year and found out that the father of a little girl in her class passed away on Saturday. I lost my dad when I was 17yo and it was hard so I can't imagine being 6yo or nearly 4yo and really not understanding why that had to happen. He was sick a fairly long time so the kids didn't get to see him too often in recent months which much make it even worse on all of them. Things like that I will never truly understand.

Now, I need to get ready to pick up my son, who was not quite as eager to get to school today as he was Friday morning. Hopefully he had a good day.
I love the name Tierney, so pretty!
That poor little girl. My thoughts go out to her and her family!

I think this might be the easiest way to reply.

Good luck Wednesday. If it makes you feel any better, when I had that ultrasound at 35 weeks, the tech brought in a resident and attending radiologist to confirm the size of his head cause she was in such shock. The ultrasound took nearly an hour cause she kept measuring and remeasuring, particularly the head. She said he was very low so it was hard to get a good reading, but it was measuring over 40 weeks at 35 weeks so they really were freaked out about his fitting. Anyway, the part that should make you feel a bit better was that while they were low on the weight estimate, his head only measured in the 10th percentile of a 40 week baby when he was born, so they clearly overestimated on that measurement. All the other measurements were between 38-40 weeks, but the head was the scariest cause they seriously didn't think he'd be able to squeeze out and luckily that was the one that was wrong. So if you hear anything weird, maybe it will be the same sort of situation.

I love the name Tierney, so pretty! Thank you! I'm just hoping my husband doesn't change his mind. ;) I figure we have 2 kids with uber-popular names that this time we can stray a bit. I've only met one other Tierney so I'm thinking it won't turn out to be too popular.

That poor little girl. My thoughts go out to her and her family!I know, it truly is a crappy deal to be dealt in life, particularly when you are not even 4yo yet.

Hello! My name is Cara and I am expecting my first baby on Feb 2, 2010. I will be 32 next month and feeling like I am going to be the oldest first time mom at the playground!
I've got you beat! I'm 34 and expecting my first. So you are not the oldest :goodvibes and congrats to you!
Sadly, we have you both beat. Cathy is 41 (but you didn't hear it from me).

Here's a pic from yesterday afternoon's ultrasound (number 11, I think).

It's hard to believe that we'll be able to hold her in two months.

Wow, 11 ultrasounds! I wish I could have had that many but my insurance never would have covered them :rotfl:

She's such a cutie already :goodvibes Love those chubby cheeks!

Our OB has a US machine in the office, so they do a quick one for us every time we visit. Plus, we came in several months ago without an appointment because Cathy was having a panic attack and needed to see the baby. Then we had two 3G/4G that we paid for, our twenty week comprehensive US and our doctor sent us for another comprehensive yesterday because Sarah seemed large.

Of course, the reason that she seems large to them is because they have our gestational age off by ten to fifteen days.

Other than the 3G/4G package, the only one that cost us anything was our 'pop-in panic' visit. It cost $75, I think.

We are very lucky to be able to get that many because Cathy is a huge worrier.

Augh, my ultrasound is in just over 24 hours!!!! I can't wait!!! Although I will say I am a little nervous about it. I have just felt so "normal" this time, and it does make me worry just a little bit. But I can't wait to finally find out who is inside me....and to start shopping!!!

I had my 38 week appointment yesterday and there is still no action!

She didn't even check me... she said that she thought because I wasn't feeling any pains that I wasn't dialating. She just measured my stomach and listened to the heartbeat and said "Everything is good, see you next week!"

But that's fine with me for now because I am a teacher and I am not prepared at work to leave yet! I am meeting with my sub tomorrow to plan!

Don't feel too badly about not being checked. My OB never checks for dilation. And now that I'm on my 3rd baby (and even the 2nd actually), they don't even measure my stomach as it's apparently no longer accurate after the 1st baby cause your uterus usually grows faster/larger with subsequent pregnancies. So my appts are literally pee in a cup, blood pressure, fetal heartrate, dr walks in, says hello, I leave. It's sort of annoying to even have to go in for that, but at least this time around they said I can do every 6 weeks instead of every 4. And My dr never did the every 2 weeks or weekly appts, so I'm guessing I can skip those this time around too. I did go from every 4 weeks to every 3 weeks with the last 2, so not sure what the end schedule will be this time.

The ultrasound thing, my OB has one in his office, but unless it's a scheduled ultrasound appt you don't get one as long as the heartrate sounds fine. They don't even do one to date pregnancies really, unless you have no idea how far along you are. So I got them at 11 weeks for that 1st trimester nuchal scan, then the 2nd trimester detailed ultrasound, and with kid #2 (and this one as well) a late term ultrasound to check measurements as I have large babies, and then this one I have that fetal echo too, but clearly that is because there could be a problem.

I am loving this back to school thing, even though I haven't accomplished much yet in my time. Camp was actually longer hours, but I had to drive to 2 separate places each day, often in opposite directions, and I felt so sick then, so that didn't seem as liberating as school. The only downside to school starting back up is that so are all the after school activities. My daughter has swimming, gymnastics, ballet, and t-ball, which are Tuesday-Friday and my son has swimming, soccer, and gymnastics, all on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Swimming and gymnastics are at the same place/time, but my daughter's classes are an extra 15 minutes, so there's this weird gap time. I dont' mind in swimming cause my son can shower and change, but in gymnastics they sell all these toys, games, and puzzles, as well as 2 vending machines of snacks and drinks. To say he melted down during those 15 minutes yesterday would be a gross understatement. I am not looking forward to dealing with that all year. Starting in January I figure I might have to cut back a bit so I'm not dragging this baby out all the time, so I let them choose their activities for the fall, but I'm already sort of regretting that decision.

Justhat,

I hear you on all the running!! Right now I am just waiting on DSD to get her driver's license, that will help me out tremendously!! Most nights I am making at least 3 - 4 trips in the car to various places. Right now I am looking forward to Sunday afternoon. DS will be at the Packer game for his birthday, and DSD is working, so no one will be around. I am soooo looking forward to some "me time'!

Once baby comes, I am just hoping he/she is a good traveler. Baby is coming right in the middle of wrestling season for DS, and also DS's winter league soccer. I was talking to a (male) friend of ours the other day, and he said he is going to laugh when he sees me on the edge of the wrestling mat, yelling at DS, with a big ole 9 months pregnant belly! I told him that if it puts me into labor, I am all for it!

BabyTigger, that's funny, imagine going into labor at a wrestling match! Good luck today with the ultrasound. I meant to tell you that I felt the same way as you going into my ultrasounds. I had no reason to think anything was wrong, but I was just nervous about them, which I was not with the other 2. It was pretty much fine though, so I worried for nothing, which I'm sure will be the case with you too. Can't wait to hear what you're having! Can you talk to your husband daily, so you'll get to tell him today? Or with the time difference is that not possible?

I was nervous before EVERY ultrasound - even the ones I paid for to get the 3D/4D. . . . no rhyme or reason, just always nervous. . . but I always worry about if everything is going well, etc.

After my ultrasound, I am taking the pictures to my aunt's so she can scan them for me to email them to him. I would guess he would probably call me tonight around 9 my time, when he gets into work.

Hi everyone! Guess what?! :teeth: Alexander Robert was born on 9/15 at 7:06am. 7 pounds 2 ounces, 20 inches long. We came home this afternoon and he's a champ at eating!

Contractions started around noon on Monday - I first thought lunch didn't agree with me, but then it happened again about an hour later...then 45 minutes later...then steadily at the half hour mark for a while. Felt like menstral cramps - really really low in the belly. Tried to go to bed around 9pm and couldn't get comfy and told DH to start timing them because we were at about every 8 minutes. From 9pm to midnight contractions averaged from 3-6 minutes apart, about 40 seconds long. Called the midwife at midnight (and apologized for the time  ) and she said she'd meet me at the hospital. They checked me in and found out I was at 5cm! That really shocked me - I didn't think I'd be that far along.
Got into my room and they had the tub half filled for me already and I labored in there for about 2 hours. Got out to get checked again and the midwife couldn't tell because my bag of waters was blocking things so she broke my water and I was at 7-8.
Knowing things would progress harder now I asked for something to help me relax - and finally decided on 1/2 a shot of Nubain. :cloud9: Didn't take any of the pain away but I was laughing and talking inbetween contractions for the next hour.
About 6am she came in to to ask if I had the urge to push yet but I didn't but wanted to see if I was ready to try. So they broke the bed down and found out I was 10cm and at a zero station!
Started to push for about 10 minutes and the baby's heartrate drops to 70 and I'm told not to push anymore. That was the worst! Laying on my side and not pushing for 20 minutes!!! I finally said I can't take it anymore and she let me push again and it's the weirdest feeling...pushing makes it feel better but it hurts like crazy. I look up and DH is crying and I look down and suddenly Alex is on my belly. :lovestruc The cord was around his neck so DH didn't get a chance to cut the cord. Ended up with a second degree tear and some "friends and family" as my midwife calls them.

He's the best baby so far! We had some issues yesterday - he nursed for almost 2 hours straight but I think it was because of his shots and the "surgery" he had. Milk finally came in this afternoon. He screamed bloody murder in the carseat coming home. :rolleyes1

My suggestion to moms to be: Bring your own bath towels!!! The hospital towels are so rough and hurt me when I was trying to dry off after my shower.

I'd write more but he's starting to stir and it's about that time...yet again. :rotfl:

Congrats Yellowfish! Sounds like baby Alexander gave you quite an easy entry to the world, and so perfect on the due date! My daughter always screamed in her carseat too, made me wonder about all these babies who sleep in the car.... Glad to hear the nursing is going well for you already, makes life a lot easier.

Well, chalk me up for Team Blue!! Everything looks great. I do have to go back for another ultrasound next month, because of the way Elliott was laying they couldn't see his entire spine, so they just want to check it out. Also, the doctor said I have a low lying placenta, but I shouldn't worry about it too much. She said, "Normally I advise my patients with a low lying placenta to refrain from sex, but, since your DH is overseas, we don't have to worry about that one!":rotfl:

Congrats yellowfish!!

Yeah BabyTigger on the baby boy!!

We had our NT scan today and the baby was measuring 13w1d ... she measured four seperate times and still got the same measurements! Wow! No gender guesses but she took a picture for me. I can't tell. I feel girl in my gut but I think I want a little girl so badly that I am influencing my feelings!!
