DH and I would like to start a family next year. Our initial plan was to take one last big trip somewhere, like London or Paris, in early summer and then focus on starting a family. However, now we both decided that travelling abroad doesn't interest us like it used to and we would like to spend one last big hurrah at WDW before embarking on parenthood. I'm travelling to DC with a student group from the school at which I teach in mid-June and don't want to hit WDW in late June, as we've been there, done that and been rained heavily upon! So we're looking at early July for a week.

My question??? IDEALLY, if all goes well, :wizard: I hope to be anywhere UP TO one month pregnant at the time of our trip. Obviously, everyone reacts differently to pregnancy, but I just wanted to know if I can still go on the bigger rides, RnRC most of all, Space Mt., Splash, and BTMRR. If the consensus is no, then we'd try later and go earlier accordingly! Also, if there is any other advice you have for this lady who is trying to plan a trip and a family around the same time, be my guest and share! :rotfl:

Thanks, Moms!

I found that my plan for when I'd be pregnant didn't quite work the way I thought! It's such a miraculous thing, and it took me much longer than I thought for my first one, much quicker than I figured for my second, and who knows for the next one!

If I thought I was pregnant, I wouldn't go on the thrill rides. This is just my opinion.

You'd probably be best off talking to your gyn/obs.

I think you should talk to your physician, but the baby is pretty safe in there, surrounded by amniotic fluid. Imagine an above ground swimming pool, and someone floating in the middle of it. If you were to shake and push on the outside of the pool, the person in the pool would not be affected much, if at all. That is what it is like for a fetus, especially in the end of the 1st- the early 2nd trimester. Of course, you are thinking about the early 1st trimester, which is when most miscarraiges occur. And each case is individual, which is why you should talk to the Dr.
That being said.... when I was about 3 mos. along with my 1st child, we went to Six Flags Over Texas, and I rode EVERYTHING!!!!! Even the Texas Giant, which is a HUGE wooden coaster that shakes and jerks the riders around ALOT!!!! My DS is a healthy, happy 21 year old man now..... and he loves coasters!!!! :earboy2:

Pretty much one month to the day, all three times, i was hit with morning, noon, and night sickness and wouldn't have wanted to be on any kind of ride.

with first DD, i threw up every day until the 8th month, took a break for a month, and then started again in the ninth month. had to have an IV for 2 days in the first trimester due to dehydration.

obviously not everyone gets it as bad. but many do.

I am another one that was very sick for the whole pregancy, at least my last two. So you can not count on feeling good, and especially in that heat, I could not image!! But then my head was in the toilet for the most part.

boy, all the memories are coming back. exactly 15 years ago from today i couldn't keep anything down, even water! i was SO thirsty, yet it was impossible to drink!

i remind her of this once in a while :charac2:

It's true you forget, or else i wouldn't have 3 kids!

The first trimester is very possible you will feel nausea but if you can deal with that ask your doc and I think you can enjoy Disney. With my first child I was able to ride everything and didn't feel too bad although I had major food aversions.. no steakhouses, etc. Going out to dinner was wasted on me then...

I am pregnant again and am going to Disney over TDay and am going on week 12, the end of the first trimester and plan to ride whatever I feel comfy with it, I may not ride much since I've been under the weather/more nausea/throwing up, etc. I am also very tired and not in the mood to stand for long even though I haven't gained the extra weight. Each person is different so you will have to see.

If you are pg, it's a nice place to think about children, I told my hubby we were pg the first time at Disneyland. If you aren't yet, it's a great reminder that it is your last adult only trip!

I went to WDW when I was about 6 weeks along and I tried to avoid the rides that jostle you too hard...like Dinosaur. I don't like roller coasters so I didn't have a problem avoiding those but they (WDW) do recommend you generally avoid these types of rides. This being said, I found that their "pregnant women and people with back problems, heart conditons etc...should not ride" warning is a little over protective.

I really had a great time despite the fact that I avoided a few rides or at times chose to "ride" the motionless options available at some simulators.

Try to take extra time to rest when needed and eat right and sleep. I found this helped control my nausea. I have three kids...1st one - no morning sickness 2nd - sick for 5 months non stop 3rd - no morning sickness. I think with the second I worked shift work and had a 3.5 year old to care for and that kept me tired resulting in nausea. ( not a problem with #3 because when that little surprise came - DS14 and DD10 so I was not so worn out!)

Good luck! I hope it works out exactly like you want it. It took us 5 years to concieve so obviously I don't have any advice to give you on that. We have no idea how we got pregnant. :rotfl: But I will tell you this--I was sick as a dog all three times. There was NO WAY I could have gone to WDW in the summer. I could barely slog my way to work. Not everyone has bad morning sickness, but I did, 24hrs a day. So, plan to be flexible and hope it works out.

As a mother of two, I would suggest to go on the safe side since it will be your first experience at becoming a mother. Of course, inform your doctor and see what he/she says. But if this is going to be your "last" hoorah, why not wait till after the trip. That way you can have all the fun you want and no unnessecary pregnancy stress or worries or unexpected morning sickness. Or you could do what I did . . .

My disney souvenir is now four years old and in preschool! lol

I am headed to WDW for Thanksgiving and will 16 weeks pg with our suprise 2nd baby (Baby 1 took a long time , but she was well worth the wait!). Although I am feeling really great now I plan to skip the "big" rides this trip and leave them to DH, DB, my mom, dad and DD...(RnR, TOT, BTMR etc...) I would love to do splash mountain though.... I see my midwife on 11/15 so I iwll ask about splash.. If she says no go then it will be no go.. No biggie!

I would be concerned more about nausea than about harming the baby. Dehydration is going to be a risk too, especially in July, and that just makes you feel so much worse. Personally, I'd wait until after (or during ;) ) the trip to start trying.

(edited because "January" was just stupid!)

Why not try to start on the trip it would be nice to look back to DC and say here is where you started.Mom & DAD 's little WDW SOUVIE.

:rotfl: I've considered that too!!! Maybe if it doesn't happen up until our trip, we'll try ON the trip!

Thanks for all your advice so far! I know there are so many what-ifs and other variables, but I want to consider everything!

I am three months along and was very sick weeks 4-10. We went to Disneyland last week just one day and I did allright, but I wouldn't plan a big fun trip to WDW knowing I might feel really crappy and be spending the whole time hugging the toliet bowl. We got pregnant one month off the pill despite many people telling us it would take months... so you just never know.

As for trying to get pregnant while on the trip, I don't know if you are on birth control or not, but when I first went off it it made me pretty sick. Some people do fine though. Just something to think about.

Oh yes, and the food aversions! Just the smell at restaurants makes me throw up. And my poor husband took me to the Melting Pot on our 1 year anniversary. It cost like $75 dollars and I could only eat like 2 pieces of the appetizer before running to the bathroom :(

I agree about the nausea and reduced energy. We didn't go to WDW during my first pregnancy, but we toured Boston in my first trimester, and I simply wasn't able to keep up the pace that my husband was used to. We had to walk less and more slowly.

Do the trip first and get pregnant afterwards.

While the baby is very well packed in there and probably wouldn't suffer harm on the roller coasters, you should not go on any water slides at all, lest you pull the plug.

Plus, you'll be very, very tired. And you may be nauseated.

Have fun whatever you decide.

I agree with this. It is completely up to you, of course. Every pregnancy is different for every woman. You may be blessed to never feel any sickness or discomfort during your entire pregnancy. But if you have a difficult beginning to your pregnancy, as many women do, you will NOT feel like trekking around WDW. I was a few weeks along with DD when I went a few years ago and I did okay. I was very tired, though, and could not enjoy any of our meals at those wonderful restaurants  . I still made the most of it, but spent a lot of time sitting things out and doing a lot of people watching. If you want to go out with a bang, go while you are not pregnant, live it up, ad enjoy it to the fullest!

Good luck with your plans!!! That is so exciting!!!

Ultimately it is up to you and your judgement. Personally, if you wanted to make sure you had fun plan getting pg after your trip. The first trimester you are very tired on an easy day. I couldn't imagine riding Kilomanjaro with incredibly sore b :teeth: :teeth: bs! Nausea was terrible with my first. I have been to WDW while pg and had a good time, but I also didn't risk anything with my baby's health. WDW will always be there, my kids are priceless! :lovestruc
