I am going away for a girls-only weekend and will be leaving my 6 year old DS at home with daddy. My problem is the most I have ever left DS was overnight, once. I know I am going to go and have a good time, but I am already missing him and I am not gone yet.

You don't.:( It's called "Mother's Guilt."

But - just shove that guilt to the very back of your mind and go to Rome and have a great time. Your son will be fine with your DH and you deserve a wonderful weekend!

take something with you like a small stuffed animal or a special picture....that's what I did the first time i left my daughter and it helped. Have fun!!

Maybe Im a bad mom, but I did it with no guilt this summer.
The longest I had been away from my kids in 5 1/2 years had been for 27 hours, but this summer DH & I took 5 days away. We had the most wonderful time. Yes I called home as often as I could, and thought about the kids a lot, but we still had a blast. I think because I knew they were in good hands and they were having just as much as us(Grandmas house is always a vacation for them) made it easy.
Go and have fun. Like most Moms, Im sure you more than deserve this!

Try to go and have a great time -- I'm sure DH and DS will be having a blast!!

I just went away for a week (first time) and it was the best thing I've done in years. I home school DS so he's used to me being with him all the time.

I thought it would be really hard, lots of guilt, etc, but frankly I had the time of my life. Family also had a new-found appreciation for mom being home. Go, have a blast, and keep in mind that it's truly every bit as good for them to have you gone for a short time as it is for you to go.

I haven't been away from dd for more than a weekend also but my main worry is dh and dd getting along and not fighting the whole time I'm gone!!!!

You'll be a better Mom for treating yourself!

Mom's need time for fun too!

When I went away, I phoned each night to say goodnight and left her with her uncle!

Don't worry, they will survive!LOL

I travel frequently. We have a routine, I call first thing in the morning for a quick "good morning" and we spend anywhere from 10 -45 minutes on the phone at bed time (when my 8 year old tends to be the most talkative.)

I will often be out of town, usually for 3-5 day trips 3-4 times a month... but my job pays enough for DH to be the at-home parent. When I am home, the chores are done, the house is clean, the shopping, laundry etc. all done so we actually have time to play as a family on the weekends....

How do I not worry? I know my DH would do anything and everything to keep our son safe. I trust that. But if I ever try to call home and no one answers (when I don't know in advance they will be out) I do panic a bit....

I think the weekends without all the housework and errands to do makes it worth it.

I took me 9.5yrs to do it but I finally went on a cruise last Dec and left DH home with DS for 8 nights. 1st time I was ever away from DS even for 1 night.
In 7.5days we leave for our Disney Magic cruise and DS is coming with us!!
