Mom & Three Kids Survive WDW - with pics, thanks and tips

A couple things I forgot – DB threw up all over my shirt on the plane ride there and I ended up changing my shirt in my seat on the plane while putting DB between the other two kids and asking them to hold him tight. Luckily the older gentleman next to me averted his eyes LOL

Also, we had reservations for Sci Fi on day two, but luckily I had cancelled those on Monday realizing that it may be too much for us to park hop on Tuesday and boy, did I make the right decision! I think that’s about the time I also cancelled dd’s reservations for Biddidy Boutique, thinking that the last day would be more relaxing with less bus trips – and I’m glad I did that too! Next time hopefully we can do more :)

Day Three
I was kind of worried when I woke up. I opened my eyes realized that better start getting ready as we had to leave the room early. I glanced at the number for the babysitter thinking I might need to call them, but they didn’t open until 8 a.m.

I looked up and saw DS waking up. The first thing he said to me, “what are we doing today Mom?” I told him we had plans to have breakfast with Donald Duck and asked if he wanted to go or wanted me to get him a sitter. He said “I want to go. I love Disney World.” Whew, I felt better all ready!

DD picked out our color matching scheme for the day – with one of her first questions being “What color are we wearing today?” Whew, my kids are into what we are doing, I think. I hope today is better. The color choice – blue.

I decided we would take things a bit slower with plans of returning to the hotel in the afternoon for some time at the pool and quiet time in the hotel if needed.

Our reservations at Restaurantosauras were for 8:30 a.m. I had tried to reschedule for a later time, but nothing was available. We were off at 7:35 to catch the bus to Animal Kingdom. DD in charge of her backpack, DS in charge of water bottles and me with diaper bag backpack, stroller and DB. We sat on bus and put the stroller between two sections of the seat, of course it started falling, so I had to hold it carefully, along with DB while we rode – the bus was kinda full for so early in the a.m. The poor guy on the other side of the stroller was getting bashed by it a few times, but he had kids and seemed to not mind too much – thank goodness!

We checked in at the front gate and followed the CM’s to the restaurant (the park was still closed). DS was getting fussy again, but not nearly as bad as the day before. Our wait wasn’t too long – about 15-20 minutes and we were seated with characters in view. Everyone was happy. The food was great, the character greetings went smoothly and we were off to explore Animal Kingdom.

My only goal was to go on the Safari. Before we headed that way we went for two or three rides on the triceratops ride – the kids really enjoyed that one and there was no wait. Then we walked to the safari and got a Fast Pass. I decided running around the park to ride the rides would be too stressful so instead we stopped in a local shop and looked around, buying matching earrings for DD and myself, a bracelet for DD and a drum for DS. We didn’t see anything for DB :sad2: And I paid the extra dollar that donates money to help “save the animals” as I explained 100 times to DS. He was quite proud of the pin I got for our donation and continually asked me to tell him – and still does – “what’s this mean Mama?” The only answer he wants to hear – “help save the animals.” Kinda cute.

Throughout our walks we also came across this area with the drums, the kids had fun playing.

After the shop we found a shaded area where I could nurse DB, the kids played tag with each other and I returned a call to my parents – who were concerned about how our trip was going. Before we knew it our Fast Pass time arrived. So we headed to the safari. Unlike many other rides, you actually take your stroller with you in line up to a certain point where you park it.

We did that, though you lose your place in line when ditching the stroller and belongings. . .and headed back to the line. It took no time at all before we boarded our adventure. The Safari, for those of you don’t know, allows you to to see the animals and then pretend that you are going to help apprehend some poachers – the kids both got the message that bad people were after the animals and that the animals had to be protected.

I thought we would see more animals, but was still pleased with the experience.

Somewhere along the way we passed by Flick and stopped for pics. As you can see, I’m wearing DB which means DD and DS both insisted on riding the stroller! I was getting quite the workout!

After that we ventured along and saw that Chip n Dale were signing autographs. We got some ice pops and waited in line.

They, of course, were headed out to break but quickly returned and we got pictures taken and then headed to the Lion King show (can’t remember the name right now). DS was started to get cranky here too, but we made it inside and had a seat. The kids really enjoyed the show – and I did too. Even DB was enthralled with the action.

After that I figured we best head back to the hotel before any drama occurred, and I knew we had tentative plans to meet up again with my friend and her family that evening – and it was already about 2 p.m.

Weaseling our way out of the show was not easy. There was so much foot traffic in that area that we were stuck for a while before being able to wind our way back to the front of the park. We eventually got through and headed out to the buses.

I felt kinda guilty that we didn’t do more, as I knew there was a lot they could have done in the dinosaur area, and I wanted to ride a couple rides, but after Day Two, I figured that it was best to take it easy and play it safe.

We made it back to the hotel without much commotion; I think someone again helped me take the stroller off of the bus. We were tired so we chilled out in the room for a little while, less than an hour probably, had some Capri Sun juices that I shipped ahead and a box of crackers. Then we suited up and headed to the pool.

I had water wings on the two older kids, they had enough swim lessons in them that they could stay afloat with the wings long enough for me to “rescue” them if I had too. So I wasn’t too worried. By the time we got there it was late afternoon and the pool was beginning to empty, so we hung out for a while and the kids enjoyed the slide for a countless number of times. Before I knew it time had flown and it was past 5.

I checked in with my friend and we decided to chat again after dinner. The kids and I had more Port Royale food – I had a Rueben and the kids had their chicken nuggets in buckets – we ended up coming home with six of those green sand buckets that the chicken nuggets come in!

After dinner I realized there was no way I was going to dress us all and load us on a bus to head to a park so I spoke to my friend and cancelled – I felt bad because I REALLY wanted to see her, but I knew it would be pushing it for all of us.

Instead the kids played at the resort’s playground and in the sand and met a few other vacationers and hung out. The children chased ducks and salamanders and had a great time. In no time the sun was going down and we returned to the room, with some fighting, but not too bad.

I gave everyone a bath and all were asleep around 9:30 – still late, but not too bad and no major tantrums (at least not that I recall LOL).

OK, I think this trip will be alright, I begin to think. My big challenge, we only have one more day of park passes. And there are two more parks to visit. What do I do? Do I push it and we go to two parks, do we buy park tickets for our last day and push it that day to bus and go back and forth in time for our flight? I wasn’t quite sure what to do.

Planning Day Four was complicated, I knew DD REALLY wanted to go to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area at MGM, we had breakfast reservations at Epcot for the princess breakfast and we had night time AAA story time at MK. I knew there was NO WAY we could do all of that so I went to bed thinking of how we could possibly accomplish all we wanted to the next day.

Awwww come on come on- Day 4 please cant wait. The other great thing you did was that color coordinating excellent idea! Think I will do that too.
Thanks!

Day 3 sounds like it went much better! I can't wait for the next installment. :thumbsup2

oooh can't wait to read about day 4!! I think this is my favorite trip report yet!!! *anxiously awaiting next installment*

GLT - I'm so glad to hear that day 3 was much better for you all! :goodvibes Looking forward to reading all about day 4! :sunny:

Yay! So glad Day 3 was better! :cheer2:

I have really enjoyed reading your report. You are SUPERMOM! I can't wait to read day 4.

P.S. B-E-A-UTIFUL kiddos

I'm so sorry that day two was a rough one - and I'm so glad that day three was better! You are an amazing mommy to do this with your kids, and think of the wonderful memories all of you have! One thing to remember is that there are always kids having meltdowns at Disney - for a long time I thought it was only me with the grumpy kiddos - NOT SO!

I didn't know that there was a nanny service that can go with you to the park! I wonder if they have an age limit? My dad and my husband can get pretty darn cranky while we at the parks . . . maybe I'll have to send them off with the nanny to get an ice cream and an attitude adjustment. :)

Looking forward to day four!

wow, your trip sounds stressful, but so rewarding too! can't wait to hear about day 4...your kids are TOO CUTE!!!! :goodvibes

Very funny!

Apparently the baby sitting service, which is an outside agency, also offers a nanny to go to the park with you. I don't know the cost.

I did notice other kids crying, and that did make me feel better. :sunny:

Isn't it fabulous to see other kids having meltdowns! It's particularly satisfying when your own kids are going through a brief quiet phase. :lmao:

When we were in MGM last summer, we were eating in some place, Backlot Express I think, dunno, I was too stressed to notice because DD (she was 1 at the time) was screaming her little head off. Poor little thing had had enough I guess but nothing we could do could make her happy that day. Now I remember we went in there to give her something to eat but she just screamed and screamed. Anyway there was a couple sitting next to us with a bubbly, smiley little boy about her age and I said to them "sorry about the screaming, looks like you guys got a quiet one", lol. So the woman just stared at her DH/bf and broke down laughing and said "this is the first time he's been quiet in about a week". :teeth: I was so relieved. So rest assured there's always a kid somewhere screaming louder! :lmao:

What beautiful, happy children you have! It looks like you all had a wonderful time.

Thanks for posting.

So glad Day 3 was better for you! Looking forward to the rest!

Allyson :)

I just started reading your TR this evening and I have gotta say, in my Dear Old Daddy's words, "That is a REAL woman!".

I can see myself doing this too. If you want to go and take your kids, do it, no matter what someone else thinks.

I think you have done a great job!

You are a brave woman!! I could not do it! I see you are from WI...did you fly out of Milwaukee?? We live close to Madison and we are flying out of Milwaukee. I am looking forward to reading the rest of your adventure!

I think you are very brave! I have 3 very active boys (8,5,4). When we went to WDW last year, the best thing I did was dress them in matching colorful t-shirts. My husband and I could keep our eyes on them so much easier.
