Mom & Three Kids Survive WDW - with pics, thanks and tips

I take my 2 kids by myself cause we would never go if I didnt( hubby does not like Disney).Three is even more work!

Your kids are beutiful. My DD was asking who the kids on the computer were and said when I told her they went to Disney " we went to disney too!"

First off, thanks for all the kudos. I just wanted to go to WDW -- and thought the kids would like it too :)

Second - Day Two wasn't quite as smooth as you will see from the next post, it was quite horrid. But it did improve after that, so hang in there with me! :thumbsup2

Day Two

The baby woke up a few times during the night. I gave up sleeping with DS because he was kicking me and sleeping sideways. So I grabbed the awake baby from the pack n’ play and went into DD’s bed. I nursed the baby to sleep and slept for a while. I woke up early – too excited about the day I think, and put DB in his bed so I could shower and begin packing up our things to start our day. Actually, I think I got most things ready the night before, which was a big help in the a.m. so that we could leave on time.

All of the kids’ clothes were packed in Ziploc bags (thanks DISers) so I’d pick outfits out the night before.

We get our special call from Mickey Mouse and DS gets to listen and is all excited. We are to head to breakfast at Ohana’s today. Everyone is dressed and we are heading out to the bus by about 8:15 a.m. with a backpack on me and one on DD, loaded with snacks, water and changes of clothing.

Its yellow day, the kids and I are all wearing yellow. In case we get lost, we will know what each other is wearing.

We drag everything onto the bus, squeeze in with lots of other people – though we are stop #1 so we have seats! And head to Magic Kingdom where we unload, get into the stroller, put backpacks on back of stroller and head to a boat to take us to the Polynesian. Unfortunately, we have to close the stroller down for the boat so we (and by we I mean “me”) have to unload and close the stroller and grab the backpacks and load up into the boat. Which was very empty and the driver was a very nice lady. Only one other group was on the boat.

I attempt to nurse the baby, who is way too distracted, and we settle in for our peaceful journey across the lake. We drop off the other group at the Grand Floridian and head to the Polynesian. Once there, there are no signs and we are asking around to find the right direction to go.

After only walking in circles a little bit we find the correct building, the elevator and check in at the restaurant.

While waiting we see my friend and her family and are able to chat for a few minutes. DS is in a horrible mood. He is hungry and cranky and has no qualms about letting everyone know his misery. There’s an opportunity for a group photo but DS says no, so I don’t push it. My friend and her family go sit – another 30 minutes!!! And then we finally get to sit too. Our reservations were only 5 minutes after them, so I’m not quite sure what the wait was about, but . . . we finally sit down and the kids are starving.

Ohana’s is family style and they bring the food to the table, but it took a bit before we got our food. We eventually got our drinks, were able to visit with one or two characters and finally the food arrived!

P4240076.jpg

They do a fun parade around the restaurant and the kids get maracas and get to join. DD did a great job joining the parade, DS got scared quickly and came running back to the table to watch.

P4240079.jpg

We were all done eating but still didn’t get a visit from Stitch – he had been close to our table before the parade but ended up visiting tables on the other side of the restaurant afterwards . . .we finally got the pic and sig and met up with my friend and her family in their hotel room for a diaper change and nursing break (they were staying at the Poly).

The three of my kids and the three of hers had fun playing together. We both nursed the babies, mine fell asleep, everyone went potty and we were on our way to the park. Probably around 11 a.m.

We go to take the monorail, great for single strollers, not so great for side by sides – our stroller wouldn’t fit so I had to half close it and jam it through to get on the monorail – DB was sleeping and I didn’t want to fold it down all the way.

Of course, once seated all I could smell was urine (not sure if someone had an “accident” on a trip before us, but ick!). Then the monorail stalled and they had to reprogram it a couple times. Finally, we were on our way to MK.

First stop was the train. That would have been OK, but DB was sleeping. It wasn’t my first choice, but we AGAIN unloaded backpacks and kids and folded the stroller and trudged up the steps to the train station.

Oh, and can I mention how hot it was! It was in the 90’s for sure and humid (especially to us northerners who had just left temps of 40’s). We make it on the train. Friend’s dad helps me with the stroller and we are heading around the park.

DS liked the train ride and would make “choo choo sounds.” Very cute.
P4240096.jpg

We get off at Fantasy Land and begin walking. It was hot and I felt like we were passing up all kinds of fun things, but we were following our friend’s parents and who was I to complain, at this point I was happy for company and went along with the flow.

Lines for rides were long so we got a fast pass for Pooh ride and headed to It’s a Small World. All through this the kids are complaining they are hot and tired and DS is being difficult.

I unload the kids and park the stroller and head to the Small World line. My friend’s parents are way ahead of us, but lucky for me, my friend stands in line with us and one of her sons. The entire 30 minutes or so we are in line DS is having melt downs, laying on the ground, crying and just plain being miserable. I am not having fun and we are all very hot and sticky. My only saving grace is spending time with my longtime friend whom I rarely see.

Finally we can see the boats and DS has one more tantrum before picking up adrenaline and getting excited to go on the ride. Everyone had a nice time on the boat ride. I think I tried nursing DS a bit, but he was distracted again.

P4240099.jpg

After disembarking we find friend’s family and they are headed to another ride, Peter Pan maybe? My kids are not having it. They are hot and don’t want to wait in another line. With DS’s tantrums I plan on leaving the park and calling it a day and tell that to my friend. We say our sad goodbyes (as we only saw each other max of 2 hours) and we start to head out when DB starts crying and is obviously hungry. We stop in a shady spot, give the kids snacks and a drink and nurse the baby. Everyone calms down and the tantrums stop.

I still hope on being able to at least use our fast pass, as we only have about 35 more minutes until our time slot, so I turn back around and head back towards the Pooh ride. On the way the kids see the spray bottle fans and want some. OK, it was hot so I caved – WELL WORTH the $34 I spent on two. Everyone was much happier and cooler!

We then pass Ariel’s Grotto and I let the kids play in the fountains. I bought myself a frozen drink (non alcoholic kind) while they play. We are all feeling better. The line to see Ariel was up to 40 minutes so I didn’t even mention it to the kids.
P4250107.jpg

Time to move on and use our fast pass – we made it to our time slot! DD wanted dry clothes so I changed her outfit in a corner behind a pin trading cart and we head to Pooh’s ride. The fast pass took a whopping four minutes to get us on - -awesome! And we were on our way. Everyone enjoyed the ride – and they wanted to ride it again, but the wait was 40 minutes and there was NO way DS would stand for that today.

We load up into the stroller and begin to walk to Toontown – I saw there was a play area and thought the kids would have fun doing things at their speed.

We find some ice pops and have a seat on some benches next to a face painting area. It was interesting to watch. I changed DB’s diaper, nursed him and told the kids they could NOT have their faces painted because they had thrown too many tantrums that day and only good children get special treats. I know I haven’t specified DD’s fits, but she was whining with the best of them throughout the day.

They played for a little while as DB took a short nap but they got into a bit of trouble when they were climbing on top of the playhouse – a parent commented how my kids “helped” her kid climb up there – oops. So we gathered ourselves together and head towards Minnie’s house.

By this time we are very hot and DS is starting to get cranky again. Everyone tours the house, though DS made a little girl cry when he sprayed her with his bottle – another oops. We took bunch of pics, DD really liked the house and I rushed them through and out. I wanted to see Minnie Mouse!

P4250114.jpg

We went next door where I was told Minnie reigns and was told that we would have to park the stroller. There was NO WAY DS would allow us to stand in line to meet characters. He was parked in that stroller and did not want to move. So we skipped that and started towards the front of the park.

Along the way we saw the tea cups ride with a super short wait time. We rode it twice!

P4250111.jpg

Everyone enjoyed it. Back in the stroller DD and DS, and I strapped on DB. I asked directions to the Pirates of the Caribbean from there – as that was a goal of mine to go on that ride. We circle the tea cups and come across some characters. With DS now asleep – thank goodness – in the stroller DD gets her pic taken with Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum and with the White Rabbit.
P4250119.jpg

We continue walking and wind up in TomorrowLand where I see the wait for Buzz Lightyear is only 10 minutes – DS LOVES Buzz so we try to wake him – BAD IDEA!! He finally woke up to only get out of the stroller and lay on the ground. He wasn’t budging. DD and I tried to get him excited about the ride, he was not having it. I apologize to DD that we can’t go on any of the rides she sees right now, get frustrated with DS and we head toward the castle where people are seated on the hot ground – hmm, I think. There must be a show starting soon.

We have a seat on the HOT ground to wait for the show. DS, of course, is now awake and cranky and complains he doesn’t want to watch the show. He sits on my lap and begins kicking the lady in front of us as he cries and whines – finally, I honestly don’t recall how, he calms – it could be that the show started, or maybe I threatened something, I don’t recall. At any rate, we watch the show – I stood up, ground was much too hot, DS sat in the stroller and I held DB. I think I encouraged DD to sit in the stroller too.

P4250125.jpg

They enjoyed the show and then we headed over to Cosmic Ray’s Café to eat.

I park the stroller outside, we go in, the kids are hungry but pleasant enough and we stand in line to order food – wrong line, no chicken nuggets. We relocate to the “chicken” side get our trays of food, add some condiments and head to front and center to watch their animated alien sing while we eat. Of course, right after we are seated and settled DS says “I have to potty.” Now? We are all seated. I leave DD with DB and our food, and the stroller too (I had gone out to get it because we needed wipes and were now street level and could bring the stroller in). I was freaking out about leaving them alone, but the potty called. We ran up the ramp to the bathroom where he went quickly, washed hands and ran back down, whew, everyone was safe.

We sit down and begin to eat. About 10 minutes later I see DS gagging -- he is starting to throw up!! And did I mention, we were front and center!

I toss everything off a tray and set it under DS so I can “catch” his vomit (sorry to be vulgar). Finally he is done and I am so grateful I have the wipes. I change his shirt right there, take off and wipe his shoe (the poor kid) and clean up the mess. We all resettle and he wants to eat. Who am I to say no, though I was nervous. I thought maybe the running and the heat may have been too much.

We manage to eat our meal and the kids begin dancing to the music. The food is staying down, so I’m happy. It was cute watching them shake and wiggle and have fun. We then head back to the bathroom before heading out. We were going to see how the Buzz line was doing.

The line at Buzz was short and we rode it twice and then headed to Pirates – cause I was determined that we made it this far and long into the day, we could make it to that ride –

This is a pic of the bad guy that gets captured by Buzz and crew
P4250128.jpg

On the way we see Aladdin’s Carpet Ride and of course, the kids wanna ride. We go on that and then are finally headed to Pirates – Yeah! Along the way we see Captain Hook and Mr. Snee and become the last people in line to see them (whew!). DS was wearing his hat and was quite excited to see the pirate.
P4250130.jpg

We pass by the Jungle Cruise, the line was long so on to Pirates. The line was short and we rode it twice. The Jungle Cruise was there too but as we headed over there DS began to have a melt down and I decided that was enough for the day. Time to head out.

DD and DB were in the stroller at this point and DS was getting mad. He wanted in the stroller. DD wasn’t giving up her precious seat. Somehow there was wet ground, it was getting dark and Whoosh! There goes DS flat on the ground, his fan in hand, which breaks, batteries fly and he is bleeding (luckily only on the elbow). DD and DS are both crying, DS cause he’s hurt and DD cause she feels badly that she wouldn’t give DS her seat before. Poor kids.

We go to a store right next to our spill and clean up DS and put a band aid on. I couldn’t find a CM anywhere. Finally, a CM who worked in the store appeared and I asked if there was anything he could do about our broken fan. He replaces the broken blade for us – we are out the missing batteries (but I have a dozen in the room). DS and DB are back in the stroller with DD walking and we begin to head out as the throngs of people line up for the fireworks show (we saw that Monday, yesterday, so we didn’t need to watch again. And I had enough for the day, thinking of leaving with all those people was way too much to handle).

We walk to the bus line with DD crying whining that she is tired and doesn’t want to walk and wait for the bus. We load up with our stroller, two backpacks, two water/spray bottles, me, baby and two kids. I think someone cut in line in front of us when we were unloading the stroller – wasn’t worth the argument at the time.

We board the bus and everyone starts falling asleep. The ride from MK to CBR was at least 20 minutes. This time, for whatever reason, they take the back way and we are not the first stop (boo hoo for me). We make it to our stop and someone helps me get the stroller off while I unload the children from the bus (thank you mystery helper!).

By this time DD has now had it too and is crying hysterically that we should have stayed for the fireworks and why can’t we see the fireworks (we could hear them). And I may have walked to a spot we could see them, but the fits were so rampant at this point that I was not going to be in public a minute longer.

Somehow we make it back to the room with all three crying and completely done for the day. I shower with DB (I was so hot and sticky I couldn’t stand it) while the other two put on pj’s and then I nursed the baby to sleep.

DS is still fighting me and claims – oh, it hurts to think about it . . . “I hate Disney World and I hate Mickey Mouse!” I was dumbstruck. What was I thinking taking these kids across the country on my own. I must be crazy, like everyone said.

Finally the kids were asleep and I sat there, not sure what to do. Was I crazy like everyone said? What was I thinking taking the kids to Disney by myself? I wanted to talk to another adult but couldn’t think of anyone to call who would be supportive, so I shed a couple tears and called it a night – oh, only after calling the front desk to get info on the babysitting service, I was beginning to think that I was gonna hire a sitter for DS – in that call I did learn the local sitter service also has a nanny service that can go to the parks with you and help – for a fee of course! I take down the numbers, set the wake up call and hope for a better day in the a.m.

DAY THREE, page 3, post 41

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh----GLT----------- :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: . I have tears in my eyes, I can just feel your Mommy frustration while reading this! We had a day in the MK last trip where my DS4 was just throwing a fit left and right. It can definitely wear one down! I'm so glad you were able to go on Pirates! And I just know that Day 3 will be a better day, right? :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

My last trip DD was having a major meltdown because she was not tall enough for EE. I just let her have her fit in the stroller. Her brother was tall enough so she was miffed she couldnt go and he could.

GLT - I'm so glad you all had a great time! I can't wait to read the rest. Your pictures are fantastic. :mickeyjum

It makes me wish my trip wasn't such a long time away!

WOW you are one strong momma taking all three kids alone to WDW!

I have to admit I couldn't have done it with the one kid I have when she was that little (and I'm not even 25 yet :guilty: ). Although her and i are planning a lil girls only weekend for her Bday next April (but then again she will be 8 ;) )

All power to you and with a baby still nursing and all, I wish I had your patience but I am a Saggitarius and an only child on top of it :lmao:

GLT - I had a meltdown on my last trip. The heat and the kids can make you exhausted! I think you are the best mom for taking your kids to enjoy the magic without any other help!
Just wait for our DIS moms meet! Get those light up shoes ready!

I have tears in my eyes and want to just hug you reading about you crying that night. what a long day but WOW a free NANNY service! Yay!! I hope YOU got to enjoy some of the trip sounds tiring already! WHat a wonderful mom you are.. great pics and...
You managed to keep looking beautiful through all of that. KUDOS to you! Great pic with the pirates;)

GREAT report GLT! Wish we could have met up....maybe next time! I LOVE your pics and the kids are beautiful like everyone has said! Keep up the good work!
:cool1: I told you it was going to be HOT down here!!!!

Great report looking forward to the rest

Thanks for sharing your photos of your holiday & your beautiful children

Oh you poor thing. My heart went out to you thinking about you crying in the room  I've been reduced to tears from kiddie tantrums too, years ago when DS12 was 3 and DS9 was a baby - oh boy the frustration of it! But three young kids! And at Magic Kingdom in crowds and heat! You are truly amazing!! I can't wait to hear more!

Wow! You are so brave! I never thought of a nanny service for assistance--hopefully you have a better day tomorrow! :thumbsup2

GLT - Awww.....I'm so sorry that day 2 was rough for you all. :guilty: It broke my heart at the thought of you crying at the end of the day. You are one amazing mom for taking your kids to WDW and giving them magical memories! :goodvibes I can't wait to read the rest of your trip report.

GLT,
On all of our trips there has been a day that ends with tears...and I'm talking about mine, not the kids :grouphug: . Disney is a wonderful place but it sure is a lot of work. I am so proud of you for taking the kids and making the best of things. They will have magical memories to last a lifetime (and so will you) :wizard: . I hope day three got better for you :) .

gottalovethem - my heart goes out to you at the end of your night but you are an awesome mom for doing this all alone - can't wait to hear of your next day & hope it was more magical for you!!

I had tears in my eyes also - too bad there wasn't a free nanny service - it would have been just the magic she needed!

i would have done more than shed a few tears... :O( my heart was breaking for you reading day 2. I havea wild ds who is 5, and a wild dd who is 2 who is just now getting into that temper fits stage in full force. i am cringing thinking of how she will be come December. sigh.

Kudos to you for braving the trip with all 3 kiddies! i would have no problems going me and ds. but i wouldn't brave it with both of them. What a wonderful mom u are! I can't wait to read more.

Don't know quite what to say to do justice to your achievement but you deserve every bit of praise bestowed upon you, one day those kids are truly going to appreciate what you did for them, no. 1 mama prize for you :thumbsup2
