Mom, my finger hurts...

On saturday my DS5 fell off his bike and scraped his knuckle on his pointer finger. I told him to go inside and get a bandaid and I'd follow him in...he wasn't hurt, just a scrape..then neighbors walked over and we got to talking..he came out with a bandaid already on. Good.

For a couple of days he's been saying his finger hurts and when I looked at it it just looked normal and as of this morning it did too.

I picked him up from preschool earlier and took him to lunch and when he picked up his sandwich, I noticed a line of red swelling going down between his fingers and over his second knuckle. I knew right then it was infected and spreading so I called the ped. and they saw him pretty quickly after we arrived and he said it was good I brought him in and prescribed an antibiotic for him.

I feel so awful!! - if I had just followed him in that day and washed it out properly, he wouldn't have had this problem

He actually said to me "I did ask you to wash it mommy, but you kept talking" I guess I deserve to hear that

5 year olds are brutally honest at times aren't they?

Your DS sounds just like my DD....she calls me on everything if I don't keep on track.

Glad he'll be okay....don't be too hard on yourself!

{{{HUGS}}} Parents are not always perfect. I am glad that thye got him in quickly. Don't beat yourself up over this.

Even when you do clean it out, sometimes it's hard to get every little piece of dirt, so it still could have happened. Give yourself points for keeping an eye on it afterward.
