Mom, Can You Quit Hanging on to Me and Just Hang on to Yourself? Update 11/2/16

Hi all -

I'm working on an update right now...but had to post this while I work....

I have Disney fever soooo bad. We were just watching our trip videos and I want to go back so bad!!!!!!!

Now I'm trying to talk DH into a surprise trip for our kiddos for my Annie's 10th Bday in April. It's April 10th and the crowds don't look too bad. Definitely larger than we're used to but not ridiculous.

I just sent my DH an email (he's an early to bedder remember) to read in the AM to see what he thinks of my plan. There is also an open ressie at CRT for that night.... :faint:

The good part about a surprise trip would be that we could plan it and then just see how finances are closer to the trip and only DH and I would be devastated if it's not in the cards... :lmao:

I may just have to book that CRT and let Disney make interest off my money for awhile if nothing else.....

*Edited to Add - I JUST REALIZED IT'S ANNIE'S "GOLDEN" BIRTHDAY!!!!!! IT MUST BE A SIGN!!!! :lmao:

When I left off we were on a boat back to the WL. It was about 4:30-5pm or so. The sky was a little dark, but no rain. We got back to the WL, changed into our suits and RAN to the pool! CLOSED. *sigh. Apparently there was a storm on radar moving in or something.

So the kids decided to go pin trading instead. I even let them take Cassie. I think this is the only place on earth I would let and feel comfortable with them going on their own like that. Granted, Wyatt is 12 and babysits back here at home, but still. They headed down to the mercantile to trade with the CM’s there and then also to the Pin station in the lobby.

While they were gone, DH and I discussed plans for the evening. Remember how I said there was a crisis at DH's work this morning? Well apparently it had been on DH’s brain all day. Long story short, he had a bunch more work to do that his boss wanted done ASAP, and DH wasn’t going to start enjoying our vacation till he got it done.

So we decided that I would take the kids to DTD for supper and some shopping while he got some work done.

The kids came back from pin trading around 5:30 and we told them the plan. They liked it on 1 condition…..they could go swimming first (they had walked by the pool and found it open).

We had a quick snack – Wyatt managed to snag this MN Twins Pop Tart – he’d been waiting thru many boxes to get one and finally did!

Also wanted to throw this one in here – it was taken during this time and shows Wyatt laying on the table bed. He thought it was just fine, comfort wise and he’s a fairly big boy.

Then off we went to swim.

Then Cassidy decided she needed to put her goggles on

What an awesome big brother

Got the kids out of the pool around 7, got everyone dressed and showered (we are evening showerers) and ready to head to DTD.

However…..mommy was hatching a plan. I loved that Cassie was loving the rides and it was such a nice evening out, so I turned to the kids and asked them if they wanted to stop at Epcot on the way to DTD. We wouldn’t have much time, but I felt empowered with my AAA diamond parking pass. :cool1:

We walked thru the gates at 8:15pm. What to do….we quick made a strategy…walk on SE first – we love this ride and it was empty. Enjoyed our ride and then RAN to Soarin….

We made it to the Land around 8:45 or so. Walked through the line at Soarin and didn’t see a single soul. SERIOUSLY!!! It was crazy.

We made it all the way to the “preshow” line area and still didn’t see anyone.
Here’s a pic of the kids- You can kind of tell that there are no other people in line

6e07abde-74c4-4a72-89fa-f2de8ba446e7_zpsf895e621.jpg

Talking with the CM there he said that they week before they were running empty theaters at times!!!? Finally another couple joined us but that was it!! We got front row center for our ride. IT WAS AWESOME. I cannot believe Soarin was that empty.

We had a great ride. I was nervous about Cassie – it was her first time in 2 years riding it. She never got a chance last September before getting sick. I made sure she was all buckled in and I was gripping her arm so tight.

What does she do? Turns to me and very plainly says, “Mom, can you quit hanging on to me and just hang on to yourself?!”

Ok fine kid, plummet to your death… It wasn’t the last time she said that to me on this trip either! I guess I’ve got to let my little baby go. At least it got me a title for this trip report….

We had a great ride and soon our flight was over. It was just a minute or two past 9, so no more rides.

disneypicsoffmyphone154_zps43abe519.jpg

That entire area was just so empty, it was weird.

Now we could relax and make our way out and head to DTD! The nice part was, Illuminations was still going on, so we were able to beat most of the crowd out.

We did stop for one photopass on the way out – I give you “deer in the headlights/bad angle and lighting” photopass

EPCOT_ECENTR3_7047866072_zps60d09475.jpeg

Even so we didn’t get to DTD till close to 9:45 or so, with that parking situation. I was able to get a spot fine, but it’s waiting to turn in to the lot itself – what a mess !

So at DTD we of course, headed straight to Ghiradelli’s. It’s our tradition to split ice cream before dinner – because after dinner we are too full to properly enjoy our ice cream.

Yumm-o We ordered a Strawberry Hot Fudge and a Peanut Butter Hot Fudge – ARGGGGG I want one now….

disneypicsoffmyphone158_zps6f72a59f.jpg

After our treat we decided to walk through WOD a bit to get some of our hunger back. Our plan was to hit Earls about 15 mins before close. We were going to buy the sandwiches and bring them back to eat with Daddy. So after a bit of shopping we did just that.

We all ordered – Wyatt, DH and I all got the original, Annie got ham and swiss and Cassidy just got the grilled cheese. We also got some chips to share and I got DH some clam chowder. The line moved quickly and in no time we were headed back to eat our very late supper.

We got back a bit after 11 and everyone ate their yummy sandwiches (except Cassidy who didn’t like hers and ate mine *sigh :headache:) and hit the sack.
The best part was that Daddy had his work done and would be back to his normal vacationing self for the rest of the trip!!

Also wanted to throw this one in here – it was taken during this time and shows Wyatt laying on the table bed. He thought it was just fine, comfort wise and he’s a fairly big boy.

How tall is he? He seems to have shot up a lot since your last trip repots

How tall is he? He seems to have shot up a lot since your last trip repots

The crazy part is - He's grown even more since we got home and I'm not kidding - I'll have to post a pic. When we went on the trip he was pretty much as tall as me. I am 5 ft 6 in. Now he's a good 1.5 inches taller.

He's always grown like that though. He'd wake up and his pajamas would be too small! :lmao:

He's kind of a giant - the funny part is - it's all legs, so his pants are too short no matter what I do and the waist never fits. Poor kid - It's a good thing we homeschool or I'd have to get his clothes tailored!

I do love your thought process for planning another trip. And this is a big deal. I often use big events to justify a Disney trip. Then again, I sometimes stretch as well. "It's a Tuesday... We need to celebrate in Disney!"

ARGH!!! While I do understand that sometimes it's necessary, it makes me so sad to see someone being made to work when vacationing with his family, whether at Disney or not. But mostly in Disney.

I don't know why, by the table bed makes me laugh. Glad it was comfortable though.

Wow, walked though the Soarin' queue and not a soul? That sounds so familar.

“Mom, can you quit hanging on to me and just hang on to yourself?!” OMG that's CLASSIC!!! The moment you realize they're growing up.

Ice Cream BEFORE dinner. OK, that is smart.

I know - it's so hard - we keep going back and forth on the April trip. I think we know logically that we shouldn't, but we just keep picturing Annie's face...and then all bets are off. :rotfl2:

Yeah, WDW used to be a place that DH would not even check his emails, but the past few years he has been doing more and more work. Sept is not a prime time for him to take a vacation, but they make it work. A new boss 2 weeks before we left complicated things a bit too. But we survived. Good thing he LIKES to get up at 4:30. Ugh.

I agree- the more I look at it, the funnier the table bed is. I love it SOOO much though because it means that our family of 5 can stay at the VWL (legitimately anyway....lol) in a STUDIO. It was a pain for DH though not having a permanent table to set his laptop up at. There is totally room to add one too - take away the coffee table and put a small round table in the corner and BAM - you are good.

And yeah, Cassidy pretty much broke my heart this trip. She kept leaning out from around the stroller and saying - Aren't I too big for the stroller, mom? And then I would let her walk for a bit, but she just gets tired so darn easily - it's hard for those little spaghetti legs to keep up.
But talk about a 360 from last trip - She's now my little thrill junkie! I love that - so does Daddy - now they are a 4some that can ride the rides that mom can't!

Man, it stinks when work bugs you on a vacation! But I'm glad your DH was able to finish fairly quickly.

Nice commando touring at Epcot! And what ride luck. I think I've been on Soarin' maybe once cause the line is always crazy long.

What's up with that PP Photographer? I wonder sometimes if they have any mini wedge, or interest for that matter, in photography! The shots very so much; I've seen some amazing photos from them and others are, well, sub par to say the least.

Ice cream before dinner? That's my kinda vacationing! Can't wait for the rest of your adventures!

Okay sorry for not being up to date, but I promise I'm caught up.

Oops for your hubby not waking you up early, but at least you got some good sleep.

Bummer that the Splash picture didn't make it onto the magic bands, that happened to us too :(

Aww poor Cassidy having not be able to ride BTMRR again.

The PeopleMover is amazing. They're missing out.

Such cute photopass pictures. Your family is so cute.

Well at least Cassie enjoyed her ride! Though her way of saying that she isn't scared is pretty funny.

Eeek that photopass picture... but they can't all be keepers, right ;)

Mmm ice cream, now I want some too. And I'm glad that your hubby got his work done. Win for everyone.

yeah, his new boss is really gung ho, but I suppose that's why he brought him in. I hate that these new young guys care only about numbers, they don't care how, why or when, but you'd better show them the numbers....

we've never been they type to commando tour, but I tell you, as the kids get older - I've noticed that it's kind of fun and yields great results! I think I did more rides this trip than I did in the last 2 combined!

I've noticed a slight decline in photopass quality also. I know that they are doing the best they can with lighting and all that stuff, so we take the good with the bad.

Gihardelli's is the only place we get to ice cream before dinner, but it's definitely a requirement there. I want to ENJOY every bite of that ice cream!

Ah, don't worry about it - it's so easy to get behind reading trip reports - I'm just starting to become a poster instead of a lurker and it's a busy job! :rotfl2:

Yeah, I was kind of peeved about the sleep in at first, but happy that it happened so early into our vaca. We had a LOT of late nights, so it all balanced out!

Yeah, that was Cassidy's standard pout after pretty much every ride. Sometimes we could appease her and sometimes we just couldn't. She just had to get over it!

And, now I want ice cream too, this is a vicious cycle!!

I think I am caught back up again! Life has been so crazy this month, I just had to postpone our trip a month. My brain is mush after that hour long phone call. I liked using the fp+ for when you could bump one up if you were ahead of schedule. We hesitated a lot over taking a stroller on our last trip because little sister's want to be like big sister's. I will miss having one next time. It sucks when you can't leave work behind! I guess it really does make it easier when getting back home though. We are slow riser's around here and usually have to set a backup alarm. I can't believe how much your kids have grown since your last tr!

Ahhhh, Tuesday. The day we had been planning on and waiting for was finally here. I, personally, had been waiting over a year for this day. It was the day we were finally going to be a family of pirates at the MNSSHP!!!! Yay!!!!

We had been scheduled to do this in September 2013, but Cassidy was in the ER the night it was to have been. So Fast Forward one year and the day was here!! I was so excited – can you tell?? :cool1:

Our appointments were for 12:10pm. A bit earlier than I would have liked them, but it’s hard to get a spot for 5 even at 180 days out! So I took what they had to offer.

I also had scheduled a breakfast at Chef Mickey’s this morning. My reason was a bit devious – I wanted to be able to walk over to our appointments in the MK. It was just so much easier to get the stroller/gear and pirate costumes to the MK this way. And the parking lot at the Contemporary in Sept is never full.

Our breakfast was scheduled for 9:15, which for us is quite early. We were regretting the late night we had and wished we could sleep in a bit, but once we realized what day it was, most of us bounded out of bed. (Cassidy could sleep till noon every day, but we finally got her moving.)

We got up, packed our pirate gear and drove over to the Contemporary. We were a few minutes early even! We were called back for our picture and then were seated right away and had a very lovely server.

This was the first time we’d all eaten breakfast at Chef Mickey’s. We’ve all eaten dinner here and DH and Wy have had the breakfast, but it was the first time for the girls and I.

I was very impressed with the choices. Everything was hot and fresh. The only complaint I have is that the kids and I are not huge eaters in the AM, and I’m not sure that is Disney’s problem. :rotfl2:

When we first sat down, the characters were only a table or 2 away so we waited for them before eating. I love when this happens as you don’t’ have to worry about half eaten plates in the pics and food getting cold.

Here is a pic of DH and Wy enjoying their morning coffee. *ugh. My son came home from summer camp drinking coffee – He looks a little wired!

ef85b298-0bed-49ce-9ec9-2cb14fa4dff9_zps6e82b3df.jpg

Up first, was none other than Mr. Mickey Mouse! I was interested to see how characters would go this trip. Our last trip in March, we had the dining plan, so we did a lot of character meals and to be honest, I was not impressed.

Now, we’ve done character meals before so I know what to expect. And I have definitely noticed a decline through the years of character interaction at the meals. For the most part they rush, rush, rush. Most of them hardly take the time to take an individual pic with the kiddos – trying to rush off after the group shot.

Not being first-timers, this doesn’t bother me TOO bad, but still, it’s a little off putting. Unfortunately, this meal was no different.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we didn’t have a good time – we had a GREAT time, but I’ve just come to the conclusion that these meals just aren’t worth the price. – For the most part. We’ll be back to some of them, even with less than stellar interaction – we’re suckers that way. :rotfl:

Back on track – here’s that pic of Mickey Mouse

And another with DH in it

I wish we would have gotten a pic of Mickey alone with at least Wyatt. We have pics of Wyatt and Mickey from every trip but this one! But Minnie was right behind him, so we didn’t get a chance.

Minnie signing the girls’ books

As you can see Donald and Pluto are following Minnie in quick succession…..
Next up was my main man Donald. And I could have cried. I get SO excited to meet Donald, whether it’s in Mexico or at AK (the places I seem to meet him the most). The kiddos totally get me and they let me shove them aside and hog him to myself. :lmao: And usually Donald eats it up. I’ve never gotten a Donald who wasn’t thrilled that someone was so excited to see him.

Not this one.

I waved him over to me – I was standing, practically vibrating with excitement, telling him that it was mom’s turn for a character and that I was so excited to meet him, etc.

HE WAVED ME OFF.

Literally. I am still crushed. The worst part was it wasn’t in a funny way, it was awkward. Just a bad vibe all around. I was so disappointed. My DH almost had to force him to take a pic with just me – he finally did, but it was just all around awkward – the magic moment was just gone for me.

To be truthful, I’m still miffed about the whole thing.:rotfl: I know it wasn’t “Donald” blowing me off – more than likely a CM who just didn’t care or get it, but I’m sad. *sigh. Oh, the trials of being an adult who is addicted to Disney. :lmao:

Here is my hard fought pic

disneypicsoffmyphone162_zps02372b98.jpg

Funny part was, he went on to have great interaction with my kids. So I’m guessing he just didn’t think adults should get to share in the fun.

Here he is signing the girls’ books

7b7d3cdc-4827-4e49-b418-f1c270b8d467_zps4eae1a40.jpg

Now here he is posing with the girls. Pay special attention to Wyatt, who is busy on my phone. Now, we normally don’t let our kids play with phones at the table, but Wyatt had taken those pics of me with Donald on my phone and was looking through them etc.

bb7f3d62-924f-449d-8a30-13b58a19edcb_zps0c345704.jpg

So Donald also caught sight of him messing on the phone and snuck up behind him. He tapped him on the shoulder and Wyatt turned around and there was Donald, like an inch from his face. The look on Wy’s face was priceless.

Next up was one of Cassie’s faves – Pluto. We always have good luck with Pluto. He was pretty interactive today also. The kids always get a kick when he signs their books on his nose….

Next up was DH’s fave – the Goofster –

I love this next series of photos.

DH had purchased this Goofy Bowling shirt in Feb and had Goofy sign the back of it on that trip also. He brought it with and wanted Goofy to sign the front this time. Here are the pics from the signing

After eating our fill of yummy breakfast foods we headed out for the rest of our fun day!!

I think I am caught back up again! Life has been so crazy this month, I just had to postpone our trip a month. My brain is mush after that hour long phone call. Bummer on having to postpone your trip! But...that means you still have it to look forward to! :thumbsup2

Yeah, I have no idea how we are going to get along without a stroller....we'll probably freeze and starve....:rotfl:

And I know, I can't believe how much they all grew since March either! It's nuts. They'd better stop soon, I'm feeling very short!

WOW. I don't even know what to say about your Donald interaction. Honestly, I don't know that I've ever seen that before. HE WAVED YOU OFF?? I don't get that at all and there is absolutely no excuse for it. That's just wrong on so many levels. :(

Goofy though. I have never met a bad Goofy. Always a favourite.

Yeah, it was that bad. He literally waved his little duck hand at me - like shoo. I honestly could have cried a bit. I felt so bummed. Of course DH thought it was hilarious later. He told me I looked like Ralph in the Simpsons when Lisa breaks his heart. :rotfl2:

RALPH'S HEART BREAKING

I still have some unresolved Donald issues.....:rotfl2:

Because we were seated right away and the characters came around as soon as we sat down we had a lot more time to kill before our pirate appointments than I thought we would.

Since it was soooo hot out already, we decided to shop in the Contemporary a bit. I do love the shops there.

After whiling away some minutes shopping, I remembered the metal Mickey sculpture outside the Contempo and decided we should check it out. We had a lot of fun posing for some pics with Mickey.

I have no idea why I don’t have an individual of Cassidy…:rotfl2: Probably because she doesn’t like to have her picture taken.

I love this pic of Wy – sometimes his sweet little “little boy” face comes out – hardly ever anymore, but sometimes I can catch it.

Of course Annie had to go INTO the bushes *sigh And you’ll notice no pics of Cassidy again. She was quite content to just sit in her stroller. When she’s 20 she’s going to accuse me of leaving her home or back in the room on all our trips!

2e751622-0a1e-496c-a5d5-9f616f925754_zps2778a3a5.jpg

After our impromptu photo shoot, we headed to the van. We changed Cassidy into her pirate costume in the van and left anything that wasn’t necessary. Everyone else was going to change at Pirates League.

So pack mule mom got to haul around a LARGE Disney shopping bag with our costumes in it. Yay. :rolleyes2

Did I mention it was HOT this day!?? Now this was our 5th September trip and I know that it’s hot etc. But let’s be honest, some days are just WAY more hot than others! And today was one of them!

After gathering our things, we headed to the walkway to the MK. The Contemporary isn’t my favorite resort (theme wise) but gosh darn it, that walkway could sway me to stay there!

The plan was for me to detour to the ticket will call window at the entrance to pick up our MNSSHP tickets for that evening. So Cassie and I headed there, while Wyatt went to use the bathroom.

Which resulted in this PP pic of DH and Annie

MK_TSTRAINSTATIONPLATFORM_7073423513_zps008a79af.jpeg

I waited in a short line and was told that the system was down and that they couldn’t give me my tickets, instead I would have to go to Guest Relations at City Hall and they should be able to help me.

We met back up with the rest of the fam and headed into MK! Yay!! We still had some time to kill before our appointment, so we decided to cross another first off of our list. I am embarrassed to say that we, as a family, had not ridden a complete loop on the WDW Railroad. YIKES!

It was high on my list of “must-do’s” for this trip and we had the perfect amount of time to ride. I believe it was about 11 am and our appointment was for 12:10.

We left the stroller at the Main Street Station and hopped on!

We had a lovely ride to the Frontierland Station.

Here is a video of part of that ride.

WDW RAILROAD RIDE

In the video you can see that Cassidy was so proud of her camera. It was the first time she had a “real” camera. It was my old one that I gave her after getting my new one 3 years ago. She took sooooo many pics this trip – she looked just like a little tourist.

You can also see how pink Annie’s face is due to the heat – right before she makes all her silly faces that is….:rotfl:

While at that Station, we entertained the idea of hopping off to ride Splash, since the wait was 5 mins. We knew we wouldn’t want to ride after getting our make-up done, but we just didn’t dare chance it.

I wish we would have. It may have avoided the incident that happened next….. dun dun dun….

Ok, I’m being a little dramatic, it wasn’t that bad.

Not long after we pulled out of the Frontierland Station, it happened. Right near the Alligator near the track. With a sickening thud, Cassidy had dropped her camera overboard.

I spent the rest of that leg consoling Cassie. She was heartbroken. We pulled into the Storybook Circus Train Station and DH hopped off to talk to a CM there. She assured us that she would personally go walk the track and find her camera :thumbsup2 She told us that we could either check back with her at that station, or a bit later at the Main Street Station.

Cassidy felt a bit better, but she was still pretty bummed. She really enjoys taking pics – ironic since she hates being in them!

We pulled into Main Street Station and decided that we’d better make our way to Pirates League.

We made it to Pirate’s League in no time, with only a quick Dole Whip stop for Wyatt on the way…:lmao:

I’m going to end here for now, since PL will have lots of pics and stories! :thumbsup2

The metal Mickey is so fantastic. Surprisingly, I've never taken the time to see it. I must fix that.

Oooh I do love the Contemporary. I've never actually stayed there, but I have such memories of it as a kid that it just means so much to me. This always felt like our starting point on those trips. Plus, how can you not love a walkway to MK? Awesome.

OH NO!!!! I took my niece to Disney a few years back and she dropped her phone (which was doubling as her camera) on the Safari. She was a mess. Thankfully we magically got it back a few hours later in tact. I sure hope that happens here. Oh yeah, I also went to Walmart that night and bought a cheap camera with a wrist strap so this didn't happen again, lol.

Hey there! Great couple of updates; I fell a bit behind. Chef Mickey's looked fun, even if that CM playing Donald was a rude dude. You'd think they'd eat it up when a grown up got all excited to see them...? I agree that your DH and goofy look like peas in a pod, and you have the cutest series of the two if them.

Love your photo shoot by the metal Mickey and the Sorcerer Mickey shots are too cute.

I'm sorry Cassidy lost her camera, I sure hope that CM was able to recover it for her. :/

Can't wait to see you all in your pirate gear for the party!

So sorry about your grumpy Donald! I probably would have cried honestly. Wyatt looked so funny when Donald caught him off guard. I've never seen the metal Mickey your pics are very cute. We've never ridden the railroad full circle even thoughI keep saying we will. :( poor Cassidy on dropping her camera, those are the moments I find stick with you for life and eventually become very funny. Annie makes great silly faces! Total childhood innocence. Loved your updates!

This was our first trip to visit the Metal Mickey too - what a great picture taking place! We will definitely be back.

I would love to stay in the Contemporary for at least one night - with a MK view of course. :)

So glad she got her phone back! I'd be more nervous about the Safari! That's crazy. At least with the rail road we knew exactly where it was and that it wasn't going anywhere.

I love those pics of DH and Goofy more every time I look at them- I never noticed how cute they were in succession like that until I saw them in my TR :rotfl:

And I hope to get the Pirate update up soon - it was SUCH a fun time!

I was crying inside for sure :rotfl: and to be completely honest I'm still a bit miffed! :rotfl:

Riding the railroad full circle was a major must do for us this trip. I still cannot believe how many things we haven't done at Disney and it's time we get to some of them!!

I need to make it to Chef Mickey's someday.

Really, they let him have coffee at camp? Our camp would tell us it was only for the adults ;)

Ouch. I can't believe that Donald would be so rude to you. I mean, come on. It doesn't matter if you're an adult or not, characters should show love to everyone.

At least Donald was good with the kids and Goofy was great with your husband.

Your kids are so fab on the structure. Little cuties.

Oh no. Not the camera. Poor Cassidy. I feel so bad. I dropped a camera out a car window once. I understand her pain.

Can't wait to hear all the stories from PL :)
