Hello.

My DD9 was diagnosed with Molluscum Contagiosum (water warts) a few months ago, she started with 1 big one on the back of her leg and 1 on her big toe.

I'm sure she got them from our local swimming pool where she is in the swimming club.

The doctor said they would go in 12-18 months but would become red inflamed and then drop off!

The one on the back of her leg is not looking so good and she has a few more popping up and can't get to my doctor until next Monday!

So I googled it and came across a website MolluscumRX.com. I think it's American or Australian, not sure. It provides info on this treatment of some sort of cream called MolluscumRX that can be bought over the counter. No prescription needed.
My doctor said there was no real treatment and to leave them to go in their own time, well to a nearly 10yo who has started middle school, this is now drastic and I need to address the situation a bit more urgently.

So my question is, can this MolluscumRX be bought anywhere in Orlando? We are staying at the Beach Club next month and if I can't get anything like this here in the UK, I would be willing to get it over in Orlando.

Thanks for any suggestions and help with this.

I know nothing about that cream, sorry. My ds had it a couple years ago. Neither sibling ever got it, luckily. We sometimes used bits of cotton soaked in "raw" apple cider vinegar under bandages for the really bad ones, but really it just took time, about nine months for his case.

Zymaderm is available in the US, it is not prescription, I bought mine off amazon....not sure if a "real store" in Orlando has it. We also had luck with duct tape over the larger bumps.....took about a month of taping them at night, but they eventually turned red and went away.

We tried the zymaderm, purchased at a Walgreens so I am assuming drug stores in Orlando would carry it too. DS had a horrible reaction to that though (he has sensitive skin). What actually ended up working for us was nightly soaks in the bath with dead sea salt (we ordered from amazon). We started that when it was at its worst (spread from just his torso to his arms, probably 20 - 30 of them) and we were desperate. He had them for about 4 months when we started this and we just couldn't imagine letting it continue to progress like that for 9 months to a year like our doctor had said. We would make him soak in the salt bath and then put a little bandaid over the ones that looked like they were going to pop after his bath (I read somewhere that when they have that white core visible is when they are contagious so I was trying to contain it). After about 10 days most of them were gone. Good luck!

We use apple cider vinegar soaked on a cotton ball and then a bandaid over that put on at night before bed and take it off in the morning.

After months of fighting them on my daughter we used this and within a week 1 was gone and about 3 the other was. We are now a year later and my youngest son has one on his thumb and one on his pinky. 3 nights into it the pinky is a big black dot and the thumb is starting so hopefully they will fall off soon.

On of our sons has had Molluscum. Took him to the dermatologist and he treated them like regular warts. They never came back after 2 treatments.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I have bought some Dead Sea salt and will try her with that.

Another vote for apple cider vinegar. Cover soaked bit of cotton ball with band aid and leave on overnight. This works well if you have just a few to treat.

When my DD had a lot we got the beetle juice treatment from the derm. That worked really well. Followed up on the pesky ones with the vinegar.

May I ask what the beetle juice is?!

On one daughter I used Zymaderm after she had it for a month and they were gone less than two weeks later. The other one developed them later and I put the Zymaderm on hers right away and they lasted about a week.

Don't touch them if they are oozing, you will get it. My friend didn't know that was what her daughter had and tried to pop it thinking it was a pimple, she ended up with a breakout all over her hands. Very contagious.

Basically,it's a compound developed from beetles that is kind of like a venom. It gets your body to react at that site and kill the molluscum virus. It also stings pretty badly.

My DD had molluscum in preschool, and we had great results with retin- A cream. It doesn't burn and sting the way the beetle treatment does, but works on the same principle. It creates an irritation and gets the body o start fighting the virus.

.

My DD got this treatment from the dermatologist last year. It wasn't painful at all and it worked in 1 treatment.
