Hello,
I have never posted on this site but I was hoping that someone could help me out. On Friday I noticed a couple of spots of black film on my grass. I went to brush my shoe over it and a cloud of black smoke came up. I went and bought a granule fungicide for the grass and put it on Saturday. Woke up Sunday morning and noticed that there were a few more patches and proceeded to put it all the fungicide on the side of my yard where the effected areas are. Does anyone know what this could be? Mold or Mildew? How do I get rid of it?

Thanks,
Mike

You have slime mold or soot mold on the grass. It is really nothing to be alarmed about and there is no need for chemical control. Slime mold grows in very moist spring weather. Slime molds are 'primitive' fungi that use the living turfgrass plant strictly for structural support. Rake the area to prodive more air circulation and with drier weather it will simply go away. No harm done.
