Note what you just said - it's GREAT if they do. It's great if somebody in Mexico speaks English to help you have an eaiser time on your vacation. You aren't demanding it. You aren't forcing it on them through illegal means (whatever that means). But it's great if they do.HayGan said:Just as I wouldn't expect to go to Chichén Itzá and expect anyone to speak to me in English. It is great if they do but I certainly don't expect it to happen.

A little girl wants to have a magical moment and speak to a princess, and you've got a problem with that? You would begrudge a little girl getting a bit of Disney magic because, well, why exactly? Because you feel that every conversation that ever happens on US soil must be done in English.
That's about the most pathetic and petty attitude I've read on this board in a long time. And that's saying a lot.

Isn't it also great that Disney is trying to make the vacations of Spanish speaking tourists easier too? I know you are sensitive to the issue. I know there are places in your life where people speaking spanish is making your life tougher. But is that any reason to be upset that a girl gets a magical moment talking to a princess?

I think the two issues are being confused here. I see no problem having Princesses that speak more than one language, it makes it more magical for the children. It would be nice, however if Spanish was not the only language being considered. What about French, Japanese or Chinese? Don't those children deserve a little magic too? I would rather see them learn some general phrases in several languages-hello, goodbye, nice to meet you, stuff like that. These are short autograph, character greet sessions-there's not a lot of time for long conversations in any language.
Don't get me started on people who have lived here for YEARS and still do not even have the most basic command of the English language. I would never move to another country, even for a short period, without learning at least the basics!

If speaking to the Princess' is so important then maybe these little girls parents should work on a few key phrases before they leave. I am tired of everything in this country being adjusted to accomodate non english speaking visitors. In all my travels to other countries I have never seen anything like what we are doing in this country. It is an embarrasment.

Ah, there's the catch....the MAIN language is English...not the only language. And yet people are posting as though it should be the only language...and THAT is being high on oneself.Tissa said:No we Americans aren't high on ourselves as you say but let me check a minute...
