Well, if you didn't make the picture then other people should be allowed to take it as long as they don't claim it. If the image is yours just put your name on it. If you really don't want someone stealing it then don't use it.

I saw the image in my sig that was created by Jaimie being used by someone else. I was about to post, "Mighty nice of ya to steal the image in my sig. " but I decided against it. I was a little pissed that they used the image without Jaimie's and my permission.

i personally only think it's a big deal if the person claims they made the icon or steals a personal photo(like of you or family or something).
I also think you need to quit complaining icon's are going to get stolen on the internet it's practically a fact you don't want it stolen don't use it or put a warning or something underneath. People steal from other people because they assume that they got the icon from an icon site or someone else IMHO.

I think that you should still ask for permission, unless it was put up on a public icon site/userbar site/ETC.

Just about every image on the internet has been used by other people. It's one thing to take a graphic and say you made it, but I think it's fine if you see something someone else is using as their siggy/avatar and use it for yourself. I am sure you didn't take those pics in your signature...uh did you ask those people if you could use THEIR photos...yeah
I am sorry your friend is upset...but this is the Internet and this is what happens on it, 'artwork' gets stolen and used by many people, and by putting things out on a message board, you pretty much can assume that someone else is going to take it and use it.

I'm sick of this! I've seen people put hard work and effort into making images, avatars, and signatures, only to be stolen by someone else. If you see someone using an image you like, at least ask for their permission if you can use it. This is getting ridiculous! I know a friend who made a little heart graphic for her other friends birthday, she put it in her singature, and now someone is using it as their avatar. If it wasn't created by you, don't use it without anyone's permission. The end.

It's not funny. Nobody has an excuse to steal photos. I'm not asking how to prevent it. I'm telling everyone to stop.

Last year, someone stole a banner I made and posted it on another forum telling people she'd make them their own banners (she just changed the name on the graphic). How about those hearts? One person has it, everyone uses it. I'm not going to use names just to keep you entertained.

I'm not dumb, I know the internet is a huge place and anyone anywhere can take my image. However, if you might have actually read my post, you'd see that not only was I not talking specifically about my image, or anyone elses, but in general to everyone. I want to thank CJ Sparrow for making my point across, is that all I want is for people to start asking permission. Grow up people, stop being so immature and moody.

And Skellington, yes, I did create it on my own and I used lyrics from songs I liked. The end. I'm not posting here anymore. It's my first day back after a different incident here, I've posted on maybe hmm, 8 threads, and on about 5 of the threads I posted on, I was flamed.

All this yelling, disagreeing, crabbiness, hurting others feelings, is going to turn into WW III someday. This board should be closed. All this needs to stop.

Look, I've had people steal my work and call it their own. And you know what, I can't do a thing about it. And I think mine was a little harder to make than a heart avatar. Why don't you PM the person, saying "why didn't you ask permission to take that"? And who is the model in your signature? what about the photographer? Did you ask their permission for those photos? You stole their work too.
