Modifying reservation at 7mo

I want to get in right at 8am 7 months out to modify my existing reservation. How far into the process can I go right before 8am for my best chance at getting what I want? Thanks!

I have always been successful getting all the way to the screen that says book for the resort I want.

I've always had to hit Update on the search right before 8:00. If I leave it on the results screen and try to click into it then I get an error that it is not in my booking window yet.

Here's another related question. I have a studio and 2 br lock off currently booked, and am looking to book the same categories at another resort. At the 8am mark I would switch the studio first, as I think that would be the first to go quickly. If I do that, it seems like there's a chance that the lock off would disappear if it was that studio that made it available. I'm afraid I may then lose my studio at the initial resort and then have no 2 br to book at the second resort. Is this just a chance that I need to take? I'd call MS but with the hour wait what I need would probably be gone by then.

It's a chance you will have to take (unless you have the points to book your preferred resort without using any points from your existing reservation). MS would also be taking the same chance. It's a tough choice. Good luck!
