OK, am I not remembering correctly, or is it the glitchy IT stuff again?
I have been able to combine reservations before online, without aid of member services.
Today, and again tonight, the system is not seeing that I already have the dates I am trying to merge.
I have 9/6 and 9/7 in two separate reservations, and am trying to combine them. I just modify one, and add other date. The system saw that I already have both dates, and combined.
It is not allowing today.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have always had to call MS to merge my ressie into one, last time being about two weeks afo. I had five different ressies that I pieced together for a nine night trip at BWV one bedroom in November and had to call for them to be merged as one.

This has never been an option for me. I had to call or use chat for them to submit the request.

I have never had the reservation status you are apparently describing, in that both reservations include at least one, maybe two, of the same nights you are actually staying at a DVC Resort. Whenever I have wanted to combine reservations, the departure date of the first reservation was always the arrival date of the second (i.e., no actual nights overlapped like it appears your reservations do), and in that situation, I could not do that merger of reservations without contacting MS.

I have never been able to merge reservations. I think you would have to cancel one and then extend the other, and I wouldn't recommend doing that with how tight the availability has been.

I always have to call MS, I agree with Tamar above, don't risk cancelling one to extend the other, you may lose it completely

Related question...
If I have the two sequential reservations for the same type room in a resort, but they are made with different use years:
Can they be merged by MS? If not, what is the next best option...just ask the front desk if they can keep you in the same room?

Different UYs means different memberships. So, no they can't be merged. MS can flag them as a Continuing Stay.

Thanks. That sounds like something I could probably try to do by email rather than call.

Also, once at the resort - tell the front desk on day 1 and on the night before the transition.
I'd do both. Ask MS (and email is a good option for this) to cross reference the other reservation with a request to stay in the same room. Then at check in, ask the Front Desk CM to verify that you won't have to change rooms (you may have to check out and back in again but if so, the CM will tell you that). But he/she should tell you it's all set.
