Modifying Dining Restriction

I don't know when this changed. But you used to be able to easily modify the amount of people in your party after you made a dining reservation. I am a solo diner And as I'm sure most of you know for whatever reason for years, You have no choice as a solo diner if you truly want to see all the times available, you have to "lie" at the time of booking and increase the number of your party to either two, three or four whatever in order to see all the available time slots. Anyway, in the past what I used to be able to do after I booked the reservation for three or four was I could modify it And bring the number of the party down to 1 for that time I wanted. Now I see you can't do that anymore. It's like the system now, basically treats the "modification" as a new search, I guess, So it does not bring up the times and shows nothing when I attempt to modify down the number of my party. Now I know this is not that big of a deal and that when I'm actually in Disney and it's my reservation time, when you go to check into the restaurant on the app, You are able to select how many are actually dining on the given day and you do not get penalized if you select only one diner when the reservation was really for four or five. I understand that and it's fine. I just feel bad that I have all these reservations and slots for two, three or four or five diners And I'm hoarding when it is not my intention. But it is the only way to get the times that I want because Disney simply doesn't make available all of the reservation slots for single Diners. It's a shame. I guess there was a upgrade a few years ago to the dining reservation system that doesn't allow you to modify down a group party anymore without losing the original booking time because I used to always be able to do it. I think I first started noticing this restriction a year or two ago. I forget. Maybe it was after covid. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this as a solo diner when Booking.

I noticed this on my recent solo trip and wound up just booking what I could (2) and checking in as 1. I think I read somewhere that it seemed like they had evened out the whole even/odd number of diners reservation availability a bit, but I have no clue if that’s true. Didn’t seem to be in my case, but since I typically spend quite a bit when I splurge on a sit-down meal, I don’t feel even the slightest qualms about booking a 2-top (or 4, if I had to).

I think in many cases, you'll still be sitting at a table for 2, or even 4 anyway. So most of the time, you're not taking a table away from anyone - there's just no one sitting across from you that meal..... So if you can't book solo, booking for 2 probably doesn't impact the restaurant anyway. Booking for 4 might.....

I also tend to order and spend a lot on all my solo dining, ordering cocktails, apps, dessert, ect. So I definitely don't feel I am shortchanging the restaurants. I wouldn't be surprised if my solo dining total matches the average family of 4 with 2 kids even.
