Modify reservation to use transferred points from different membership?

I have a January reservation booked with points from my Oct UY membership. I'd like to transfer some points from my Sep UY membership to the Oct UY membership (to free up some Oct UY points for a May reservation), and then modify the January reservation to use those transferred points. Is that possible for me to do online? If not, will Member Services do that without having to cancel the January reservation and re-book? There isn't full availability now and I don't want to lose the reservation.

Thanks!

You have to contact MS to transfer the points, so they can handle the reallocation of the transferred points into the January trip.

Same home resorts? If not, was the original booking made in the home booking window?

Different home resorts: the Sep points are GF and the January reservation is SSR, booked with Oct SSR points within the home booking window.

If it was booked within the home booking window, I don't think you'll be able to switch that reservation out to non-home resort points. From what I recall, any reservation made in the 7-11 month window will stay locked to that contract.

Member services will technically have to cancel and rebook it, as you can't swap out home resort points for non-home resort points, if booked in that 7-11 month window.

Well, hmmm. There are a couple nights available at the end of the trip that I can book with my Sep UY points. It's 5 more points than I was going to transfer, but that's fine. If I book those, then modify the original reservation to drop the last two nights, can Member Services merge two consecutive reservations that are made in two different membership?

They won’t be able to merge reservations on two different memberships, but you could have MS note the two reservations as a “continuing reservation” and they would in all likelihood, keep you in the same room. You might have some minor issues with room access (we’ve had to get our magicbands reset by the front desk when we’ve done this). Sometimes there’s no issues though and it’s pretty seemless.

If you want to merge the reservation as one, you’d have to transfer the points, book the dates, then request for MS to combine the reservation.

Thanks! I think I'll transfer the points and do the merger. We are traveling with guests and would prefer if we don't run into any room access issues. If it were just DH and I, as it usually is, I'd take my chances since we are pretty go with the flow, but our traveling companions are not, lol!

I should have asked that. But someone already answered that transferred points from a different home resort can’t be used in a home resort booking from another resort unless those nights are still available.

Just an update that I was able to accomplish this all via chat. We transferred the points, booked a new reservation for the last two nights (which were available and I now had enough points for after the transfer), then dropped those two nights from the original reservation. The request to merge the two has been placed and that should be done in 5-7 days.

Now I have the points I need in my Oct UY to modify my May 2025 booking the way I like.

Thanks to everyone for their assistance! It helped me to know exactly what I was asking for when I contacted Member Services since my cast member was not thrilled with my "highly overcomplicated" request. It was the first time I've encountered a DVC cast member who was anything other than over the top helpful and gracious. I asked if there was an easier way and his response was, "There is no easy way." Alrighty, then, lol!

🤣🤣🤣 I literally lol'd to this. There's probably a good proportion of DVC owners that end up on this board that are neurotic overplanners and this is why owning DVC works for us. Glad you were able to accomplish what you wanted, @Moneypenny!

Good to know chat works, thot you had to call in to transfer

I've had to link several res this year, with different contracts being involved in each...avg time to link 3 days

Great news that it all came together!

The cast member said the only reason the transfer could be accomplished via chat was because I was listed as a purchaser on both memberships. If that's not the case, you need to call in.
